The New Beginning

Prologue/Chapter One

Everyone thinks they know me but they don't. I am not always sweet and innocent. I am not defenseless. I do have an opinion, and I absolutely refuse to be known as Ron Weasley's little sister. My name is Virginia Weasley and you had better learn it.

"Ronald you better hurry up or you'll miss the train," Mrs.Weasley yelled.

It was the typical beginning of another typical year. Ron was late and he knew it, but he had to finish packing his trunk. He had already gotten all of his new school supplies the week before at Diagon Alley. It was the beginning of his sixth year and he couldn't wait. Well, actually, the school part he could wait for, but he hadn't seen his best friend Harry or his girlfriend Hermione in over three weeks. They had both visited the Weasleys' for a few weeks at the beginning of the summer, but he hadn't seen them since.

"Alright Mum, I'm coming! Just let me put this last thing in my trunk," Ron yelled back.

He took one last look around his room and headed down the stairs.

Ginny took one step back and continued to look at herself in the mirror. She had grown up these past few years. No longer was she the small, scrawny red head. Her height had now reached 5'6; her red hair went just past her shoulders and had a slight wave. Things were definitely improving. Putting one last book in her trunk and closing her bedroom door, Ginny made her way to the fireplace. Bill and Charlie were away due to work, but both had sent owls wishing Ginny a good start to the year. Percy, Fred, George, and Mr. and Mrs.Weasley each gave Ginny a hug and wished her luck. Ron and Gin grabbed some Floo Powder and clearly shouted "Platform nine and three quarters!" It was the start of yet another year!

It was now or never. She had never spoke of her plans to anyone but her best friend Alexa, but this year was going to be different. This year Ginny was determined to show people the real her and stop pretending to be someone she wasn't. This was the year she would stop drooling over Harry. This was Ginny's year!

Hogwarts

"Hey Ginny, get your butt over here," Alexa called. "Wow, look at you! Are you ready for the start of our fifth year?" Alexa questioned.

"Well, it's now or never, I just hope I can hack it this year," Ginny answered.

"Yeah, well the classes shouldn't be to hard; you've always done well," Alexa said.

"You know that's not what I meant. This year I'm going to stop drooling over Harry, go out with some other boys and stop being so shy and passive," Ginny said. I've always envied you Alexa, you don't care what people think and people are always so surprised when they find out that we're best friends. I know what they say to you. They say, 'Wow you're friends with Ginny? You too are so different. She always seemed so shy.' Well not this year! I know it sounds corny but this year, Alexa, we are going to rule the school!"

"That's the attitude Gin! I knew you had it in you," Alexa yelled, while receiving curious glances from passing students.

Alexa had been Ginny's best friend for the past two years. Alexa, like Ginny, was a Gryffindor. She was by no means beautiful but she was pretty by most people's standards. What made her stand out above the rest was her fierce loyalty towards her friends and the way she told it to you straight up. Her favourite saying was, "hey you asked me!" She also had a knack for dressing, how do you say eccentrically. She's tall standing at 5'10 with blonde hair past her shoulders. If she didn't stand out already, wearing rainbow colours and knee socks certainly didn't help. Yes, Alexa Grennflyn was an individual and Ginny wanted to be just like her!

"Ron and Hermione, stop snogging and get over here," Harry yelled across the hall.

"Wow, it seems like I haven't seen you two in forever. Summer at the Dursleys' was hell but hey, I got through it.

" That's my man, Harry the trooper. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it?" Ron said. "

Ha ha, I see you haven't lost that wonderful sense of humour we all know and love," comented Harry.

Harry exclaimed, "Well I suppose we should head off to the feast or we'll be late!"
