Chapter Three

Patrol

Draco walked into the Entrance Hall where he had agreed to meet Hermione for the first Head duty of patrolling the corridors.

"Come on, Hermione, we better start this, er, patrolling thing," he drawled as he approached her.

"So we should," Hermione agreed with a nod. "Where should we start?"

"Well, Granger, since we're in the Entrance Hall, I think we should start here," Draco drawled, 'Then we'll go down to the dungeons, then come back and work our way upwards and around."

"Fine," Hermione sighed, heading to the entrance to the dungeons, in which Draco had just exited from. "And remember, Draco, you have to call me by my first name."

"Why? McGonagall's not around," Draco said. "You don't actually think I meant any of that crap did you?"

Hermione ignored him and headed down the steps into the cold dungeon passageway.

"You know Malfoy," Hermione said, "I would really like to know how you got the job of Head Boy, so why don't you tell me."

"I got it because I'm second from the top in our year, Granger. You being first."

"All because your father probably bribed the teachers into giving you good grades," Hermione muttered.

"No, Granger, I got here by myself, no help needed," Draco sneered, "You just can't face the fact I'm nearly as clever as you."

"I can so face the fact!" Hermione retorted.

"No you can't, because you're a worthless filthy Mudblood!" Draco snarled.

"Don't call me that you-you heartless, smelly...ferret!" Hermione shrieked. "I hate you! I hate you! I HATE YOU!"

"Shut up," Draco muttered. He was sure someone would hear and knew that if someone did, his Head Boy badge would probably be flushed down the drain.

"Why?! Why do you care -!" she started, but she was cut off by him doing the only thing he could thing of that wouldn't make much noise. He kissed her and it was wrong, because the moment his lips touched hers, it was like a pleasant eruption between them and he lost himself, or rather, they lost themselves.

She opened her mouth underneath his shyly and felt his tongue slide in and start searching the contents of it. She responded passionately, kissing him back and letting her arms wrap around his neck, while his circled her around the waist.

Finally they broke off for air, coming to their senses at once. They jumped out of each other's embrace and silently and very awkwardly continued to search the dark and empty corridors. Finally after about half an hour, Draco spoke.

"That meant absolutely nothing," he said, referring to the kiss, "I just wanted to shut you up."

"Well I don't see why you had to make it so long," Hermione said dryly.

"It's not my fault you kissed me back," Draco sneered.

"Well if you weren't such a great kisser, I wouldn't have," Hermione retorted.

Draco smirked widely. "Hermione Granger liked being kissed by me, her worst enemy," Draco drawled. Hermione went a deep red, making Draco smirk even wider.

"Shut up, Malfoy!" she cried. "You seemed to enjoy me kissing you back, so, so what if I liked it."

That was the end of their 'conversation' and they stayed silent until it was time for them to go to their dormitories and to bed.

Chapter Four

Falling for Her

...He was falling all because she had told him to; told him that it would help him get what he had wanted for a long time, but never realised he wanted it, or rather, her. He wanted her; he was falling for her...

Draco woke with a start at the sound of Goyle's bewitched alarm clock. It was all a dream. Draco absently looked around the dormitory and his eyes landed on his polished Head Boy badge, which lay next to him on his bedside table.

It had been five days since they did their patrolling duty together and the night was still as clear as clean air in his mind. He had kissed her, and it had felt as if it were a wanted kiss; a needed kiss; as if he'd wanted to kiss her for a long time, but never realised he did. And it had been much longer then he had originally intended, probably because it was the best kiss he'd ever experienced.

Thinking of her and the kiss made him smile slightly. Maybe his dream was trying to tell him something; make him realise something.

Draco thought back to the dream.

...He was falling all because she had told him to; told him that it would help him get what he had wanted for a long time, but never realised he wanted it, or rather, her. He wanted her; he was falling for her...

God, he was falling for her; he was falling for his enemy; he was falling for Hermione Granger.

Getting out of bed abruptly, Draco got changed, one thought never leaving his mind. He was falling in love with Hermione Granger, someone he'd hated since first year.
