Chapter 6

The castle was buzzing with joy as Christmas came closer and closer by the day. Most of the Gryffindors were leaving except for Hermione, Harry, Ron, Ginny, Colin and several other second and third years.

On the first day of the vacations, the whole gang was sitting around the hearth warming up to the fire and having some snacks. Ginny was bundled up with a blanket on a cozy love seat, with Harry who was bundled up next to her. The two were discreetly playing around under her blanket, grabbing each other's hand and tickling the other's arm. Ron was sharing a couch with Hermione and Colin, who were both very uncomfortable since Ron kept leaning forward to get more chocolates from the table in front of them.

"Ah, this is the life," said Ron. "No classes, almost nobody in the common room, my best friends and best girl all sitting by the fire, and all the chocolate frogs I can eat!" He then eagerly reached for another box of chocolate frogs from the table and pulled Hermione onto his lap as he tried to open them up. They had been going out for about three months already.

"So how many people stayed here this year?" asked Harry while intertwining his fingers with Ginny's under the blanket.

"I'd say about 50, give or take a few," answered Hermione.

"Did Cho stay Harry?" Ron asked with his mouth full.

"Nah," Harry said hastily trying to get his fingers back to himself. "She had to go on a family vacation to Canada or something. But, you'll never guess who did stay for the holidays,"

"Oh! A guessing game! Alright gimme a hint!" said Ron eagerly.

"Our favourite trio," Harry replied sarcastically. "Our favourite Slytherin trio."

Suddenly the group heard a loud splat coming from Ginny's side of the circle. At Harry's words she had spat out the eggnog that she had just sipped, and spilled it all over her clothes. "Shit!" she exclaimed, before running out of the common room and up to her dormitory.

"What's wrong with her?" asked Ron. But the question was left unanswered; everyone just stared after her, wondering what on earth was up her arse.

For the past number of weeks since Ginny and Draco's last encounter, Ginny had not seen or heard from him once. She had devised a plan so that she wouldn't have to have any contact with him for as long as possible. However it was becoming harder and harder to carry out this plan, so she was looking forward to Christmas as a break in the tiring scheme.

The plan mainly consisted of many different ways to not accidentally bump into him around the school. Instead of going to meals, she would go straight to the fruit bowl painting and ask the elves themselves for food. Instead of using the prefect bathroom, she resorted to using her dormitory bathroom, no matter how small and cramped and stingy it was. In place of going to lessons, she would fake sick or simply run really fast when heading from class to class in the halls to avoid accidentally seeing him. If she needed the library, she would go during Quidditch matches. She had everything worked out. Every little thing, and it had worked for about two months now. But even being away from someone and not having one bit of contact with them for so long, can be tiring. And now that Draco was staying for the break, she would have to carry it out during what was supposed to be her rest time.

Ginny was pacing around her room when she heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" she asked.

"It's Hermione," the muffled voice answered.

Ginny walked over to the door and opened it up while saying "Come on in."

"Ginny what just happened down there? Why'd you run out all of a sudden?"

"Oh... that...it was nothing I just thought... that I left... my... Potions book... on the window sill. And... I thought maybe... it... fell." Ginny took so long to think of that sentence that she was sure it sounded like a lie, so she pulled a don't-doubt-me-I'm-innocent smile and then quickly looked down at her shoes that all of a sudden looked fascinating.

"Oh... right, well the boys sent me up here to ask you what was wrong but I think I'll give them some boy time and stay up here for a bit. Is that ok with you?" Hermione asked casually, knowing the answer was obviously a yes.

Ginny however, was not looking for an interrogation, even if Hermione was her best friend, so she hurried to the door and said, "Sure, but I actually have to um... go to the library for a second. I'll see you later though!" And with that Ginny ran out of the room, leaving a quite confused Hermione behind.

As she walked down the stone steps to the common room, the voices of the boys who were still sitting in the common room became more and more clear. Slowing down her pace, Ginny listened in to see if they were saying anything worth eves dropping on.

"... well yeah but what are you going to do?" she heard Ron's voice first.

"I'm not sure, I mean I really like them both," Harry said. "You guys don't think its weird though do you??"

"Not for me. I mean it'll take some getting used to if you pick the one and not the other, but I'll live. I'd rather it be you than anyone else I mean," Ron replied.

"Yeah I mean if I had to choose anyone to date her I'd pick you Harry, you'd be great for her and I think she really likes you." Colin added.

// Wait, what're they talking about? Does Harry like someone else other than Cho?? But who?! Who is it??// Ginny thought to herself.

"You think so? I hope so. But at the same time I still like Cho, I don't know if I should dump her or if I should just keep it going. I mean what if I dump her and then get rejected? Then I'll have no one." Harry retorted sadly.

"Don't worry, she wouldn't reject you. I know for a fact. And plus if you're going to be happier without Cho then why waste your time when you could have something better??" Colin pointed out.

"Yeah I guess you're right, well I'll spend time with her over the break and then when Cho comes back I'll decide what to do." Harry concluded.

"Sounds good mate, but I'm hungry, what'd you say we head down to the Great Hall to get some lunch?" Ron asked as his stomach rumbled loudly. At that moment, Ginny began walking down the rest of the stairs, seemingly oblivious to the conversation that she had just overheard.

"Hello boys," she said looking them over and then smirking sweetly at Harry.

"Hi Ginny," Harry said dreamily. "Would you care to join us for lunch? We were just going to the Great Hall." Harry then extended his hand to her and waited for her response.

"I'd love to, thank you. I'm starving," she answered while taking his hand and walking with him to the portrait hole. But before going through the two paused, turned around and said to Colin and Ron, "You two coming?"

Ron and Colin, who were still sitting by the fire, snapped out of their quiet conversation quite rapidly and began to mumble things like, "No thanks,"

"Nope,"

"I'm not too hungry anymore actually,"

"Yeah me either,"

"Big breakfast you know,"

"Exactly,"

"But you two go,"

"Yes you go, enjoy yourselves,"

"Yes, bye now!"

"Bye!"

Then they stood up and ran upstairs without another word. "Strange friends you've got Harry," Ginny said jokingly. "Well, shall we?"

"We shall," Harry replied while putting his arm around her and walking down to the Great Hall. //When did Harry get so flirty?? I mean it's not like I'm the other girl right?? It can't be me, he'd never look at me like that...// She looked up into Harry's gorgeous green eyes and he looked back and smiled charmingly. Without saying a word, they both knew that when they were together it felt right. //...Would he??//

* * *

After a long day at Hogsmeade with Harry, Ginny felt like she was walking on a cloud. She felt like nothing could ruin her mood. Eager to see Harry again as soon as possible, she headed downstairs to the Great Hall. I mean what were the odds that the one time she doesn't think about avoiding Draco would be the one time he found her.

"Oh great,"

"Well, well, well, look who decided to show up," Draco spat.

"Why are you following me Malfoy?"

"Well it just so happens the Great Hall is taking everyone for dinner these days. Not just the precious Gryffindors."

Ginny rolled her eyes and continued walking towards the Hall.

Not ready to give up he persisted, "Well as long as we're both hungry you might as well tag along, I mean if we walk together we could..."

"Yeah that never really ends well does it??" Ginny replied.

"It did the last time we were together."

"You really seem pretty fixated on a one night stand Malfoy."

"Well maybe you shouldn't forget about it so quickly."

"I have to go,"

"Well good then," he said with a false toughness in his voice. "I don't want to linger near your worthy self anyway. And if you think I do then get a grip"

"Like you've never said you wanted to before."

"Maybe, but we've been through this haven't we? Things have changed."

"Will you quit that?? The only thing that's different is that I'm disgusted with myself. That's the power of your charms. This whole time with you has been the most perverse, degrading experience of my life."

Draco, and his twisted Slytherin mind, seemed to take this as a compliment and he smiled and said, "Yeah, me too."

Ginny was confused at first but then mumbled, "Well that might be how you get off, but it's not my style."

"No, you're right it's not your style... it's your calling. Given me a run for my money, Weasel. Now, I admit it, you had me by the short hairs. I love you, you know it. But I got my rocks whacked. You feel something for me."

"Not love."

"Not yet. But I'm in you're system now. You're gonna crave me like a kid craves chocolate. And the next time you come calling, if you don't stop being such a bitch maybe I will in fact hex you."

"That's it Malfoy. I want you out of my life."

"Too late for that. You invited me in already, you need me."

"Enough of this. You're wrong."

Draco snickered and said menacingly, "Poor little lost girl, she doesn't fit in anywhere. She's got no one to love."

With a sudden loss of appetite, Ginny burst out, "Me? I'm lost? What about you, you idiot? Poor Malfoy, can't be good, can't be evil, where the hell do you fit in?? Your job is to kill people for Voldemort, but all you can do is follow me around making moon eyes."

"I'm in love with you," Draco said aggressively.

"You're in love with pain. Admit it, you like me because you enjoy getting shut down. So really, who's screwed up??"

"Hello? Slytherin! I'm supposed to be treading on the dark side. What's your excuse?"

"Screw off,"

"You know I wasn't planning on hurting you... much,"

"You haven't even come close to hurting me."

"Afraid to gimme the chance?"

Without answering, Ginny began walking towards the steps to her common room, forgetting about dinner. Draco grabbed her arm before she got away and spun her around.

"You afraid I'm gonna--"

Slap!

Without thinking, Ginny had slapped him. She ran back up to her dormitory, without a backwards glance.
