Chapter Two

Knockturn Alley is a cesspool of darkness. It breeds violence and hatred. Many a Dark wizard and witch have spawned from its depths. Lurking in the shadows, illicit items are bought and sold. The scent of evil permeates the air. It is an old evil, one not squelched easily. If it were easy, it would no longer exist. But this darkness, this evil, is alive. It lives in the alley. It dwells in the cold gray eyes of one Draco Malfoy.

Darned in fine black robes, Malfoy leaned against an old brick building on the east end of Knockturn. It had been raining all day, and in the dark of night, the narrow streets looked as if the cobblestones were spotted with puddles of black oil. With his long, strong fingers, Malfoy traced the fresh scar on his left arm. A black skull was ingrained into the man's pale flesh. He smiled back at the blood red eyes in the Dark Mark. Something was happening. The Dark Lord was back and he had plans. The Mark burned, and Malfoy relished in its pain. Draco Malfoy was a new Death Eater, freshly inducted, and ready to take control of everything dark.

Malfoy barely recognized the black raven that swooped down to perch on his shoulder. There was a small envelope attached to his right leg with dark green ribbon. The young Death Eater knew his master had a message. With much anticipation, Malfoy ripped open the envelope and read the tiny message scrawled in red ink, possibly blood, written by the Dark Lord himself.

It is time. Malfoy Manor.

The reign of Darkness has begun.

The young Malfoy smirked at his master's melodrama. And how nice of Lucius to offer the Manor for the Dark Lord's servants to commence. Like he had a choice. Father would fuck the Dark Lord if it would please him, thought the young Malfoy. Draco Malfoy respected his father, but thought he was a fool, following the Dark Lord like he was some kind of deity. Draco knew better. He knew the Dark Lord would eventually fall, and soon after, he would take his master's place. Draco Malfoy's main hunger in life was to surpass his father, and rule the wizarding world. He wanted to be greater than Voldemort himself. But in the meantime, he had to follow as another minion, and learn the ways being a true Dark Wizard.

It is time. That is what Voldemort had written. This was the moment all of the dark community had been waiting for, for nearly a quarter of a century. This was their big chance. They had failed before, many times, but this was it. The Dark Lord would rule again. There was only one task left to accomplish. Malfoy crumpled the parchment in his left hand and bore his stormy gray eyes down into the seemingly infinite blackness that was Knockturn Alley. It is time. Draco Malfoy narrowed his eyes and thought, How can we be so sure?
