Feels Like Home
If you knew how lonely my life has been
And how long I've been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you've done
Harry Potter sat in his office at the Ministry of Magic. He had achieved his dream of becoming an auror and spent a good bit of time in this office, pondering over volumes of information about dark wizards.
Today though, his thoughts were elsewhere.
He thought of times when he was a miserable young boy, living with the Dursleys. Constantly taunted by Dudley, pushed around by his aunt, yelled at or completely ignored by his uncle. Terrible times. Harry couldn't have been happier when he found out that he was a wizard and would be able to leave the Dursleys and their horrible home. It was their home, it had never been his. Harry hadn't known what a home was until Hogwarts. He had Hagrid to thank for that, his first friend.
Then he had met more friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
Well, if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I'd love anyone so much
Hermione. When had that name become so important to him? He would never be able to pinpoint the exact moment when she had become his world. She had always been there, supporting him, challenging him, just being there for him whether he realized he needed her or not.
Harry grinned. It had been only recently that he and Hermione had realized the depth of their feelings for one another. He knew that she had been one of the few constants in his life, but suddenly he realized that he would rather die than have to live without her. Thankfully she had felt the same.
Harry looked at his watch - six o'clock, time to go home. Home nowadays was a flat that he shared with Ron and Hermione. They had moved into it shortly after graduating from Hogwarts. Ron had reacted with pleasure at the news that his two best friends were dating. He was long over the short time that he and Hermione had seen each other, and expressed to them both that he was happy for them. Harry was glad for that; he didn't know how he could handle gaining such a wonderful relationship with one best friend while losing his other.
Quickly, Harry straightened up his desk and Apparated to his flat. He paused there in the front hall, taking in his surroundings. He could hear pots and pans rattling in the kitchen and knew Hermione must be home, and hungry. He also heard Ron shouting at the Wizarding Wireless in his bedroom. No doubt the Chudley Cannons are playing today. Harry chuckled to himself.
Suddenly Harry was overwhelmed with emotion. For a boy who grew up with no love, no home, no place to feel comfort and safety; he realized what a lucky man he had become. He had a great career at the Ministry, he had wonderful friends, and he had the love of the most beautiful, most clever witch to ever be born.
Silently, two slender arms wrapped around his waist. "Harry, are you all right?" Hermione murmured in his ear.
"Yes, love. I'm just fine." Harry smiled down at Hermione's loving face. Yes, this is home.
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me, it feels like home to me
It feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
