The next morning I woke up to Sirius's and Lily's screams. My eyes flew open and I fell out of bed and onto Peter.

"OW! James! What are you doing?" Peter said.

"Oops," I said and got off him. "Sorry, Wormtail." Peter smiled. He liked it when we called him that. He does anything for us if we call him by his nickname. Anyway, I looked up at Sirius, who was standing in front of my bed holding the curtains back and staring at Lily with a look of horror on his face.

"WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO JAMES!!!!" he hollered, pointing a finger at Lily. "YOU THEIF! YOU STOLE MY BEST FRIEND AND NOW YOU'RE TRYING TO BE HIM SO THAT YOU CAN HANG OUT WITH ME!" I rolled my eyes. "JUST SO YOU CAN BE SEEN WITH ME BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU LOOK GOOD BECAUSE I'M SO GOOD-LOOKING!" Sirius ran a hand through his long black hair.

"What the hell are you talking about, Black?" Lily spat. "I'm Lily!"

"Yeah right!" said Sirius. "You probably stole her too!" Sirius has problems trusting people.... Well, he has problems, period!

"What?!?" Lily screamed. "You're mad, Black! I'm getting out of here. Maybe it's contagious." She swung her legs out of bed and started to leave but Sirius grabbed her arm and pushed her into the wall.

"You're not going anywhere until you tell me where James it, you imposter!" he growled. Lily rolled her eyes. "Tell me or else I shall blast you into smithereens! Bwahahaha!" Sirius said. I grabbed a pillow and stuffed it into my mouth to keep myself from laughing. Once I had controlled myself I pulled the pillow out of my mouth.

"Sirius, mate, I'm right here," I said. Sirius spun around without letting go of Lily's arm so that she flew around in a circle and bashed into me. I toppled over backwards and banged my head into Peter's bed.

"James!" I heard Sirius and Lily say at the same time. Stars were dancing in front of my eyes. Everything was so confusing... I woke up a couple of hours later in the hospital wing. I didn't get what was going on so Sirius filled me in....

"Mommy?" I said dazed after banging my head on Peter's bed. "Mommy, where are you?" I reached out and grabbed Sirius's shirt and pulled him down onto the floor beside me. "Hi, Mommy," I said.

"Uh... hi - er - dear," said Sirius. Lily pushed Sirius aside and knelt on the floor next to me.

"James?" she said. "Are you okay?"

"Are you my mommy?" I asked.

"Um - no, James," said Lily. "I'm Lily."

"Huh?" I said. Lily let her breath out. She pulled back her hand and slapped me across my face. Sirius had nothing to do so he ran into the adjoined bathroom and brought a glass of water, which he splashed onto my face. It didn't work. I stood up.

I shook water out of my eyes and looked around the dormitory. Peter was sitting on his bed wide-eyed and staring at me. I knew he wasn't my mommy so I didn't even ask. I ambled over to Remus, who was still fast asleep and muttering under his breath. I crawled onto his bed and started hitting him.

"Wake up, Mommy!" I yelled. Remus woke up and stared around wildly. Then his eyes came to rest on me.

"James?" he said. "What are you doing?"

"Mommy!" I yelled and pulled him into a rib-cracking hug.

"Ack! James! Gerroff me! I'm not your mommy!" Remus yelled, struggling to get me off. I let go of him.

"You're not?" I asked. Remus shook his head. "Fine! If you're not my mommy I'll go and find her!" I jumped off of the bed and stomped out of the dormitory still in my pajamas with Quaffles all over them. I ran down the stairs and into the Common Room. Everyone looked up at me waved.

"James! Come back!" I heard somebody yell from upstairs. I ignored them.

"Has anyone seen my mommy?" I said. Everyone exchanged amused looks and shook their heads. "No one?" I said. "I want my mommy! Mommy! Where are you?" I burst into tears just as Sirius, Lily, Remus, and Peter came down the stairs.

"James!" Sirius said. "Why are you crying? I've never seen you cry before!" I just wailed even louder. Lily came up to me and sat me down on a couch. She put her arms around me and held me.

"There, there, James," she whispered in my ear. "Don't cry. I'll help you." I looked up at her.

"You will?" I said. Lily nodded. I wiped my tears. Lily smiled.

"Come on," she said. "Let's go." She stood up and led me back upstairs. Sirius, Remus, and Peter followed. In the dormitory, Lily pulled out a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt from the trunk at the end of my bed and handed them to me.

"What do I do?" I asked, staring at the clothes.

"Go into the bathroom and put them on," said Lily. I nodded and left. Lily sighed and plopped down onto Remus's bed.

"What happened to him?" Sirius said. Lily shrugged

"I think he has amnesia," said Remus. "Did he bump his head somewhere?"

"Yes," said Lily. "Sirius was being and idiot as usual and he bashed me into James and James fell over and banged his head into Peter's bed." Remus nodded.

"We have to take him to the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey will know what to do. I just hope it isn't permanent," said Remus. Nobody said anything. They were wishing for the same thing. I came out of the bathroom just then. I was wearing my jeans on my head and my t-shirt was tied around my waist.

"This isn't very comfortable, you know," I said. Everyone sighed.

"Sirius," said Lily, "go help James with his clothes."

"No way!" said Sirius, backing up. "I am not about to dress my best friend. You do it!" Lily shook her head.

"No! You do it Remus!" Lily said. Remus shook his head too.

"Peter?" he said, turning towards Peter. Peter squeaked and backed up into Sirius.

"Lily should do it," he said. Sirius and Remus nodded. Lily sighed and walked over to me.

"Sit down, James," she said. I automatically sat down on the floor. "On a bed," Lily said. I stood up and walked over to each bed.

"Which one?" I said.

"Any!" Lily said, exasperated. I sat down on Sirius's bed. Lily walked over to me and grabbed hold of the jeans on my head. She tugged at them until they came off. Then she untied the shirt around my waist.

"That tickles!" I squealed and squirmed around. Lily rolled her eyes.

"Arms up, James," she ordered. I put my arms in the air. Lily pulled the shirt over my head. "Now put your legs into these, James," she said, holding my jeans in front of me. I took the jeans. After a few minutes effort I had all my clothes on the right parts of my body.

"Now can we find my mommy?" I asked. Lily rolled her eyes.

"Sure," she said. "Come with me." Lily took hold of my arm and guided me out of the dormitory, down the stair, through the Common Room, and out into the corridor with Sirius, Remus, and Peter right behind. We kept walking for a while. I don't know where they were keeping my mommy but Lily knew. We walked until we came to a door with the words "Hospital Wing" on them.

"My mommy's here?" I asked.

"Uh - yeah," said Sirius. "C'mon, mate. Let's go inside." Sirius pushed me forwards but before he could open the door it opened. A lady came out with black hair pulled into a tight bun at the back of her head. She looked a little strict but I knew who she was.

"Mommy!" I yelled and flew at her. "I've been looking everywhere for you, Mommy!" I hugged my mommy really tight, but I don't think she liked it because she started yelling.

"What is the meaning of this?" she yelled. "Get off of me, Potter!" she pushed me away from her. "Detention! All of you!" she yelled. Why did my mommy push me? My lower lip started to tremble. I was so sad.

"Professor McGonagall!" Lily screamed. She pulled me into a hug and said, "Don't cry, James. It's okay." I sniffled but didn't cry. I liked Lily and if she didn't want me to cry, I wouldn't. Lily told Sirius to take me inside while she talked to Professor McGonagall. Remus held my arm from above my elbow and steered me into the hospital wing. Sirius stayed outside with Lily. Remus told me to sit on a bed and went to a door at the other end of the room. Remus came back with another lady a couple a few seconds later. She pushed Remus out of the way and ran towards me.

"Do you remember me, James?" she said. I stared at her. She looked vaguely familiar. I shook my head. The lady sighed. She pulled a bottle out of her pocket and uncorked it. "Drink this," she said, pushing it into my hands. I shrugged my shoulders and drank it. At once, the room swam in front of me. I felt very, very sleepy. I fell back onto the pillows and knew no more.
