Chapter 3

The phone rang a few times before she heard him pick up the phone the next day. It was only six in the morning so she was surprised to hear that he was already up. She wished he hadn't. It would've been so much easier for her if she only had to leave a message.

"Hello?" she heard him ask. His voice didn't sound tired at all, in fact, it sounded like he had been up for hours.

"She knows," was all Ginevra said. She poured the coffee beans into the coffee machine and turned it on. A soft rumbling sound came from it.

"What? How does she know?" Draco's voice was rushed, and Ginevra could hear for the first time coming from him, a little bit of fear behind his words.

"She read my diary," Ginevra said. "God, I screwed up, Malfoy. I should have told her when she asked me. I am the worst mother ever." She sat down in a chair and rested her head in hands, shaking a little bit.

"You're only twenty-six," Draco told her reassuringly. "And twenty-six year olds don't have to take responsibility for everything that goes wrong."

I'm only a twenty-six year old mother because of you, Ginevra thought harshly.

"And twenty-six year olds should not be a mother to a twelve year old," Ginevra whispered.

"Do you want me to come over? I could talk to her if you want me to," Draco said slowly after a few minutes of silence.

"Only if you want to," Ginevra said softly. "She's still sleeping and I have to get her up in a half an hour. You can come over if you want to, though."

"Okay," Draco said. "I'll apparate over there."

"Okay," Ginevra said. She turned the coffee machine off.

"So I'll uh be over there in five minutes."

"Uh huh." This was getting awkward for the both of them.

"So uh
see you later," Draco said.

"Okay."

"Bye."

"Bye," Ginevra said. She heard a click on the other end of the phone and hung up her phone. Ginevra was pouring the coffee into two cups when she heard someone popping into her apartment. Automatically thinking it was a burglar, she grabbed the bat that she hid in the cupboard under the sink for emergencies and silently walked over to the wall. The bat was held in a tight grip by the side of her head.

"Hello?" came a familiar voice. Ginevra sighed in relief and loosened her grip on the bat, dropping her arms to her sides.

"Ginevra?"

"In the kitchen," she said, opening the cupboard under the sink and putting the bat away. She didn't want Draco to see how paranoid she was, so she tried to be quick. But obviously, she wasn't quick enough.

"What were you going to do?" Draco chuckled when he saw her. "Were you going to attack me?"

"Don't laugh at me," Ginevra said, returning to pouring the coffee into the cups. "I thought you were a burglar."

He chuckled a little bit and put his hand on her shoulder, a rush went thought Ginevra entire body. She was getting too attached to him, and she knew it. But she didn't care. When she was with him, she felt happy. Why? She had no idea why.

Tears sprung to her eyes as she remembered how mad Donna was last night. She didn't want Draco to see them, so she turned her face away from his and looked at the wall.

Draco put his fingers underneath Ginevra's chin and looked at her glassy eyes. "What's wrong?" he asked her, wiping the tears away that had fallen.

"She hates me," Ginevra sobbed, letting the tears fall down her cheeks and neck. Draco pulled her closer to him and wrapped his arms tightly around her as she cried. "She hates me, Draco. If you heard what she said to, you would know she hates me."

"She doesn't hate you, Ginevra," Draco said, rubbing her back. "She can't hate you; she just can't understand what happened."

"No, she does," Ginevra cried on his shoulder. "She said she wanted to go as soon as possible. That she wanted to be away from me."

"She's just angry," Draco whispered. He held her at arms length and lifted her face up. "She doesn't hate you. Say it."

"She doesn't hate me," Ginevra whispered. Draco hugged her again and let Ginevra finish crying.

Twenty minutes later, when both she and Draco had finished they're coffee, Ginevra went into Donna's room to see that she was already awake, just finishing packing her bag for Hogwarts.

"Donna?" Ginevra said. Donna looked up at her, and then looked back down. "Someone wants to see you in the living room."

"Tell Mr. Malfoy I don't want to see him," Donna hissed. She knew it was he, since she'd heard her mother talking to him on the phone talking him that she knew. But she didn't want to talk to him; she didn't want to talk to her mother either.

"Please, Donna, he just wants to talk to you," Ginevra said softly, looking down at the floor.

"Look," Donna said, obviously angry. "I don't want to see or talk to him. I don't want to talk to you either. I just want to go over to Daniella's so that her mother can take me to Hogwarts. At least I know that she wouldn't lie to me. And she's not even my mother. Go away."

Ginevra wanted to cry again. But instead, she just bit her lip and nodded, leaving the dark room and closing the door.

~*~

Donna sighed and sat on the bed. She hated how had just treated her mother. But she was still so angry with her, with Mr. Malfoy. She knew she was being unreasonable, but she was only eleven, and she didn't understand most things quite yet. But what she did understand was that her mother lied to her, and someone who loves you doesn't lie to you, especially your family.
Donna shook her head and stood up, looking around the room for something else to pack. Then when she was finished, she walked over to phone and called Daniella's house to make sure it was still okay with her mother if she came over.

~*~

Ginevra walked back into the living room, trying so hard to keep her tears under control. But again, Draco could see how much it hurt her what Donna had just said and he held his arms open for her to fall into. She sat on the couch next to him and he pulled her into his arms. She finally let out her tears and cried on his shoulder for the second time in less than an hour.

Draco got up when he was sure that she was going to be okay and that she was done crying. Then he walked over to where Donna's room was and knocked gently.

"I told you, go away," Donna said. Behind the door he could hear he going through her closet or drawers. "I don't want to talk to you. Or Mr. Malfoy. So just go away."

Draco sighed and opened the door. Donna looked over and glared at him.

"What do you want?" Donna asked harshly.

"We need to talk," Draco said, looking down at her.

"Well I don't want to talk to you," Donna said, continuing packing her bag. "Just go back to her and do whatever you want to do with her."

"She is your mother," Draco said sternly. "And she didn't do anything wrong. If you want to be mad at anybody, be mad at me."

"I'm mad at both of you! You got her pregnant by getting her drunk and she LIED to me! You don't do that to people you love." Donna was turning red with every second that she got angrier and angrier.

"It wasn't her fault, Donna," Draco was getting frustrated with her. "I was the one who got her drunk, I was the one who got her pregnant, and I am your father! So if you're going to be mad at your mother, don't be. I'm the one to be mad at."

"Oh and this is coming from Mr. Responsibility," Donna hissed. "You are not my father! If you were my father, you would've been here to see me twelve years ago. If you wanted to be my father, you would've come to see me in between those twelve years! But no! You were out partying and getting drunk and screwing other girls! You don't want to be a father, and you don't want to be with her! So don't even try pretending you do! You are not my father, and you will never be. No go away."

Draco stared at her, before shaking his head and leaving the room.

~*~

Donna fell to her knees and cried. What was she turning in to? First she was cruel to her mother, then to Mr. Malfoy who was her father. This was not what she wanted to be like at twelve years old.

She wanted nothing more than to leave this apartment. She wanted to go over to Daniella's now. Another second in the house and she would die.

So she grabbed her bags after she made sure she had all of her books and clothes and everything she needed, left her room silently and went past the kitchen where Mr. Malfoy was now holding her mother as she cried. Donna felt horrible since she knew she had made her mother cry. But what's done is done. You can't change the past.

She walked into a different room and went over to the fireplace. Next to it was a bowl of floo powder and she grabbed a handful. With her bags she stepped into the fireplace and muttered quietly, "Daniella Danielson's house."

A green flame washed over her and she thought she was going to start to burn, but she didn't. One second she was in the fireplace, the next she was in a different house. She brushed walked out of the fireplace and looked around. She had made it all right; she was in Daniella's house.

~*~

"Ginevra," Draco asked, his eyes wide open. "Ginevra?"

"Yeah?" she asked, wiping her tears and looking up at him.

"Please tell me you didn't hear that," Draco asked. He could swear he had just heard someone in the other room.

Ginevra was quiet, and then she heard a swish and that was it. "Donna!" She yelled, praying her daughter was all right. Her and Draco moved apart and ran to Donna's room. Ginevra burst open the door and saw that the room was empty. No Donna, and no bags in there either.

They both looked over at each other, and started running around the house. Draco ran outside to see if she had gone out there, and Ginevra was frantically looking around the house for her.

When Draco came back inside, Ginevra was pulling out phone numbers. She looked for Daniella's and when she found it, she dialed the phone and waited for someone to answer.

"Any luck?" Ginevra asked.

Draco shook his head and Ginevra tilted her head towards the ceiling and tapped her foot impatiently.

"Come on, come on, come on!" Ginevra was pleading that someone would answer.

"Hello?" Ginevra recognized the voice as Daniella's mother, Mrs. Danielson.

"Is Donna there?" Ginevra asked, her voice rushed.

"Is this Ginevra?" Mrs. Danielson asked.

"Yes it is. Is Donna there?" Ginevra was getting anxious and she wanted to know if her daughter was all right.

"Donna is here; would you like to speak with her?" Ginevra sighed. Yes, she thought. Donna was all right. "Oh, I'm sorry Ginevra, but I really must go. The girls want to go out for breakfast since its they're first day at Hogwarts."

"Okay," Ginevra breathed.

"It was nice talking to you, Ginevra," Mrs. Danielson said. "Bye bye now."

"Bye," Ginevra said before she hung up the phone. She put it back on the stand and looked at Draco.

"Well?" Draco asked.

"Donna's there and she's okay," Ginevra smiled before walking over to Draco. She wrapped her arms around Draco's shoulders and his hands found their way around her waist. They smiled at each other, their pasts forgotten as Draco leaned in to kiss her.
