A Reason For Crisis

Chapter One: Help From Ginny

Hermione knocked on the door to Ginny's room at The Burrow one summer night. She was nervous, but she figured she would have to do something about this soon, and she knew she could trust Ginny.

Hermione had been staying at The Burrow since about two weeks into the summer, along with Harry and the some of the Weasleys. Molly and Arthur were obviously there, along with Ron and Ginny. Also there were Bill and Fleur, who had just gotten married that summer, and were looking for a flat to move into. It was now about the middle of August and the kids would be going back to Hogwarts in two weeks.

Yes, Professor McGonagall had talked them into going back to Hogwarts for their final year. Hermione was glad that they were going back. This way Harry wouldn't be able to do anything that would put him in that great of danger this soon. He would have to wait another year, and then he could be more prepared. Although Harry didn't seem to like this plan as much as she did.

Still, he agreed with it, and this was an agreement that no one was going to let him break.

But the reason Hermione was outside Ginny's room on this night had nothing to do with Harry, but more to do with Ron, whom Hermione had been dating since the end of the last school year.

As Hermione stood there knocking on the door, about a million different thoughts were going through her mind. 'Was this really true? How could I have let this happen? What is every one going to think if it was true? What would they do? What would I do?' This last question bothered her the most, for she had no idea what the answer to was, as for the others, she could come up with pretty good guesses to what the answers were.

In response to the knock, Ginny opened the door. "Did you want something?" she asked Hermione.

"I was just wondering if I could have a chat with you," Hermione said.

Ginny looked at the clock. "What, now?" she asked.

Hermione just nodded.

Ginny was about to ask if whatever it was could wait till morning, but saw the look on Hermione's face. She looked very nervous. And had Ginny heard a hint of fright in her voice?

"Well, sure," Ginny said. "Come on in."

Hermione hurried into the room as if she was afraid she would get in trouble for being in the hallway.

"What's up?" Ginny asked her.

Hermione sighed. "It's hard to explain," she said quivering. "I don't know where to start."

"Well," Ginny said. "Why don't you sit down?"

Hermione sat down, and after a few moments that Hermione used to collect her thoughts, their conversation began.

"I'm scared Ginny," Hermione began.

Ginny was a bit confused. "About Voldemort?" she asked.

Hermione shook her head. "No, it has nothing to do with Voldemort," she said.

Now Ginny was even more confused. "What about then?"

Hermione sighed; this was going to be difficult. "Well, this isn't going to be easy, so I am just going to say it," she said and took a deep breath. "Ginny, I think I might be pregnant."

Silence followed this statement. Ginny tried to grasp what Hermione had just said. Finally she just said the first thing that came to mind and yelled, "What?!"

"Not so loud!" Hermione whispered frantically.

"Hermione, how could this happen?" Ginny asked in disbelief.

Hermione scowled. "I think you know how it happens," she said gruffly.

"Well, yes," Ginny said slowly. "But how could you let this happen?"

Hermione started crying quietly. "I don't know, I'm so stupid," she sobbed.

Ginny tried to comfort her. "You are not stupid Hermione, you just may have made a mistake."

Hermione nodded, bringing her head out of her hands. Ginny went on, "have you told anyone else?" she asked.

Hermione shook her head again. "No," she said. "I came to you, I know I can trust you."

Ginny was shocked. Trust her? Out of all the people here? But then she realized that it must be true, she would have had to come to a woman of course and besides her there was only Mrs. Weasley and Fleur there. Ginny would have chosen Hermione out of them too.

"Well," Ginny started. "What should we do?"

Hermione looked at her in surprise. "We?" she asked. "You are going to help me then?"

"Of course," Ginny said raising an eyebrow. "You are like a sister to me Hermione, I would do anything for you"

Hermione felt touched, Ginny had never said anything like that before. She smiled and then frowned. "What should we do first then?" she asked.

"Well," Ginny said thinking. "I think we should find out if it is true first, you know, before we tell anyone or anything. There really isn't much to tell them if you aren't for sure."

Hermione nodded. "How do we find out for sure?"

Ginny knew the answer to this. "We can go to town tomorrow, and go shopping, no one will think anything of it. When we are there, we can buy one of those muggle tests. You will know by tomorrow night."

Hermione smiled. "You are the best Ginny, thank you so much."

Ginny smiled back. "It's no problem Hermione, no problem at all."

The next morning at breakfast Mrs. Weasley asked, "So, what's everyone doing today?"

Ron answered, "Me and Harry thought we would get some flying done, this afternoon. Care to join us, Hermione, Ginny?"

Hermione began to stutter, but Ginny came to the rescue. "No, we were going to go to town for a little shopping. Clothes and things, you know?"

"Well, alright," Mrs. Weasley said. "Just be careful"

"Of course," Ginny answered.

*****

Ginny and Hermione had gone on their 'shopping trip' with no hassle that afternoon. And no one had any suspicions as to why they actually went.

So, that night, after everyone else had gone to sleep, the two girls were in Ginny's room with a little white stick, whispering to each other.

"Blue for negative, pink for positive," Ginny quietly read from the box. "Come on blue!" she whispered.

Hermione stopped moving, then sat down on the bed, and placed her head in her hands. "What am I going to do if its positive, Ginny?"

"Shush," Ginny answered. "Don't think about that right at this moment."

Hermione nodded. "Is it ready yet?" she asked.

Ginny looked down at the box again. "No," she said softly. "We have to wait another couple of minutes."

Hermione nodded again. "I can't believe I am doing this," she said. "I am only seventeen for Pete's sake! How could I have let this happen?! Why was I so stupid?! I shouldn't have put all my trust on a stupid spell! I should have thought about this!" she whispered all this frantically, starting to sob.

"Hermione, calm down, you don't want to wake anyone up," Ginny said trying to soothe her. "I know this is a bad situation, but you aren't alone, you got that? I will be here with you, and so will my mum, she may seem cross, but she wouldn't turn away from you at a time like this. Ron and Harry will be there for you too. After all you've guys been through, how could they not be?"

Hermione nodded again. "Oh god," she said looking up at Ginny with a worried look on her face. "My parents are going to be furious."

Ginny nodded. "I thought of that," she said. She leaned over and hugged Hermione. "But they won't turn away from you, they love you."

"I know," Hermione said. "But I can't believe I am letting them down like this. I am their only child, Ginny! They will be so disappointed in me."

"They will get over it soon enough," Ginny said hoping this statement was true. She didn't really know Hermione's parents, and had no idea how they would react.

"Yes," said Hermione. She sighed and then said, "What do you think Ron will do?"

"Oh, god," Ginny said. She couldn't believe she hadn't thought about her brother's reaction yet. "I don't know," She said. "I really don't know."

Hermione sighed. "You... you don't think he would leave me, do you?" she asked with a shaky voice.

Ginny was shocked by this question. "Of course not!" she said. "How could you even think that? He would never do anything like that Hermione, and don't you think he would for a second! He loves you so much, he would do anything for you."

Hermione smiled. "I know you are right," she said. " I guess I just had to hear someone say it."

Ginny nodded. "I know this will be hard for you, Hermione. But don't worry, you will have your friends and your family here for you."

Hermione nodded. "Is it done yet?" she asked cautiously.

Ginny looked down. "Yes," she said. "I think so."
