Sam starred at the letter in her hands. Any kind of reaction would be appropriate except the one she had, a blank stare. Didn't she have anything better to do with her time? Read a letter, drop it on the ground, pick it up read it again and stare like an idiot? Come on.
But this was no ordinary letter. This letter was delivered by, you'll never guess, an owl. It was written in green ink. This odd letter claimed that Sam had a gift. The gift of magical powers!
Wow, doesn't the beginning of this story look familiar! A muggle girl most likely an orphan receives a letter saying she should go to Hogwarts! At Hogwarts she will be popular and all the boys will like her. She will be sorted into either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. She will fall madly in love with either Harry Potter or Ron Weasley. However Draco and his manly charms will seduce her into cheating on her steady, ever so prefect boyfriend. Her boyfriend will become immensely jealous, go and snog with Hermione and never stop thinking about her. To top it all off she will have some rare magical gift that will make her be the only one able to defeat Voldemort with the aid of Harry Potter and company. After the death of Voldemort she would win back the love of her life and live happily ever after.
Well that is not what this story is about. So keep reading. My character is not a Mary Sue but a real character with depth and complexity. She will be an independent spirited heroine, with real goals to achieve in her life, her story will be about the war against Voldemort, and the importance of staying true to your friends and lovers during hard times. So basically she will be a girl writing a piece of Harry Potter fan fiction while desperately awaiting the fifth book. And believe me I know how she feels. Now what she's writing is a piece of trash that will never make it past the editors of her favorite fan fiction site but this isn't about her actual fan fiction story it's about the story of writing it. So I'll shut up and begin.
Kait starred at the blank screen in front of her eyes. She thought, and thought, and thought but she couldn't think of anything besides a title for her Harry Potter based fan fiction story. IN big bold letters at the top of the page it read, "Behind the mask". "How original," she thought. "There must be another fifty fan fics on the web with that title." The name was quickly erased.
"Sam starred at the letter in her hands.
The gift of magical powers!"
There was only one word to describe this piece of trash, shit. Complete shit. The most boring way to start a story. Nobody would read this past the second sentence! Jesus Lord, who would blame them? Kait knew she was a better writer than that. Even the name! Sam! How boring! Something exotic, that would do. Thora! Kaitherine Thora! Her middle name Thora that would work, now for a little more of an interesting vocabulary.
"Thora gazed at the rolled parchment in her immobilized hand. Any kind of reaction would have been better than the one she chose, an indolent stare. Most people looking on at the scene would have thought, "Didn't she have anything better to do with her time?" All Thora had done was open the letter read it drop it on the ground in horror, read it again, then stare at it. What kind of idiot was she?
But then again, this was no ordinary letter. A rare few of her kind received such a letter in these days. The letter claimed something that Thora never would have guessed. It claimed she had a gift, a gift the gods rarely bestowed. The gift of magical talents."
Looking at the paper on the screen Kait sighed. It sounded too, too...Mary Suish. And being a Mary Sue creator was not good. Mary Sue's were scorned upon she had read it in other writers reviews. They hated Mary Sue's and so did she. They were so perfect. So unreal. Absolute trash. How could she possibly write any thing worth reading?
Kait woke up a few hours later d letters whizzing across page after page; apparently, she had fallen asleep for a few hours and used the keyboard as a pillow. Little marks of keys were imprinted in the side of her face.
She minimized her story and decided to check her email. As usual it said "you've got mail" She scrolled down the list, and realized after five minutes that she must have received over a hundred thousand mail messages. They all said the same thing, "Read this now." Finally after a few moments kait finally decided on reading one of them.
Dear Kait,
Though you and I have never met in person you know, or think you know so much about me. Many muggles do. But you are the one true fan that I'm willing to risk everything to. I need to explain the truths of our entire world to at least one muggle, I need at least one person to know the truths of all of it. J.K. Rowling is using real events as a scam to make money off of poor defenseless muggles. I have selected you as the one person to tell the truths of our world to.
Yours sincerely,
Draco A. Malfoy
P.S. Meet me in Starbucks coffee house New York, New York. At 11:00 Monday. You know the one I'm talking about.
The prefect reaction was to be expected. A very confused, startled look.
