Chapter 2: Terms, Conditions and a Plan.
"I-I-I might do yes," Hermione stammered, feeling uncomfortable. Parvati's amber eyes glinted with triumph and her smile widened dangerously.
"From what I heard you need help." She spoke while checking her well-manicured nails. Hermione tried not to look desperate by doing the same as Parvati but instead of shiny, long talons, all she saw were half bitten, splitting cuticles. She wasn't even sure what cuticles were.
"Well, I might not be able to manage on my own but...."
"Oh come on Hermione! I mean look at you! You may be a bookworm but you are no expert when it comes to pulling guys!" Parvati scoffed, interrupting her. Hermione felt somewhat hurt by this remark however.
"Well I may not be an expert like you and Lavender." Parvati took this moment to wince at the mention of her ex-best friend. "But all I need really is simple advice and I can do fine on my own," Hermione continued, warily. Parvati rolled her bright amber eyes expressively as if to say 'Don't give me that shit because you so know you need my help.' Hermione bit her lower lip and thought,
'What if Parvati can help me after all? I mean she's had tons of boyfriends and she's got plenty admirers so why not? I mean if she's actually interested in helping me, she didn't exactly say she would...' She breathed out a surrendering sigh and asked,
"Um, do you know anyone who could help me?" Parvati's dull expression on her pretty face instantly changed to success and triumph.
"Well I can, but I'm not doing it for nothing ok?" she replied, tossing her long glossy hair behind her shoulder. Hermione raised an eyebrow.
"Well what do you want in return then?" she asked, bemused. Parvati smirked dangerously and that familiar glint appeared in her eyes.
"I want you to help me break up Harry and that little girlfriend of his," she replied.
"Ginny?!" Hermione gaped at the pretty malicious girl in front of her who a couple of years ago wouldn't dare hurt a fly.
"Yeah, that's her, I want you to help me break up Harry and Ginny."
~*~*~
"Well?!" Parvati asked impatiently. "I haven't got all day you know!" Hermione thought quickly. Ginny was one of her best friends in the world and she'd never do anything to hurt her, but she really liked Ron as well. It was a case of either Ron or Ginny. She took a deep breath and mentally chose. Ron.
"Okay, deal," Hermione stuck her hand out for Parvati to shake, hoping she hadn't made a mistake. Parvati shook Hermione's hand so casually that she was beginning to wonder whether Parvati actually made deals like this daily. Yet another flash of triumph paraded through Parvati's face and she then said,
"So, first thing we do is give you a makeover."
Hermione gaped, her mouth hanging open. Her? Having a MAKEOVER??!! No way! She was so not the 'makeover' kind of person! Never would she ever let a pair of tweezers or a tube of lipstick or anything go near her face! In her fourth year she did use a hair product but that was different. That was the Yule Ball for god's sake! Not a normal school day! And she never used it ONCE after that! Hermione was so indulgenced in her own shock and thoughts that she didn't notice Parvati was already way ahead of her, taking boxes and boxes of beauty treatment from her dorm room into Hermione's dormitory. When she finally finished she glanced at Hermione and frowned.
"It isn't ladylike to hang your mouth open like that you know." Hermione closed it at once and went red.
"Well deceiving someone is even more unladylike," she mumbled. Parvati looked up from sorting her dozens and dozens of lipstick tubes into her own colour order to give Hermione a look of warning that said: 'I'll pretend I didn't hear that but say it again and you won't live to see the next day'. Hermione squirmed; she finally knew what Lavender meant by Parvati being really scary sometimes. Once Parvati was finished with all tens of thousands of her beauty items she motioned a hand gesture for Hermione to sit on a chair in front of her desk, which at that very moment was crowded with tubes, containers, tins and bottles of 'beauty'. Hermione nervously sat down and Parvati took a moment to properly survey her own face before working on Hermione's. She smiled and seemed to look happy with what she saw. She then turned to Hermione and needed a few minutes to take in the dark bushy hair with matching bushy eyebrows, plain thin lips, bitten nails (or more truthfully, cuticles) and pale face. Parvati sighed and said,
"This is going to take a lot of work."
