Sleep was the furthest thing from Pansy's mind the night she basically told Draco that their relationship was over. Although she knew that happiness should be her main emotion because of Ernie, Pansy thought about Draco cursing after she had walked up the stairs to her dormitory. If it wasn't so late at night, the whole house might have heard him curse Ernie's name into oblivion. Pansy's happiness was quickly deflated once she realized that Draco might try to get her back by taking MacMillan out of her picture permanently.
What was she to do? Draco's ways of torture could go by way of physical or emotional, and neither would go well with Ernie and Pansy together. The thought of Malfoy hurting Ernie gave Pansy the deep feeling of guilt inside of her. After all, she did choose Ernie to help get revenge. If she had chosen someone else, Pansy would probably still be with Malfoy and would have told the other boy to get lost.
If there's a prize for rotten judgement
I guess I've already won that
No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history, been there, done that!
But this was Ernie Pansy was thinking about! The boy obviously loved Pansy enough to give her a chance to decide! The whole night, Pansy worried about the fact Ernie might feel dejected and not come to the Astronomy Tower again. What if he's given up on me?
Around three o'clock in the morning, Pansy finally fell asleep out of sheer restlessness. She hoped that her dream boy would be up on the Astronomy Tower by the end of the night, for Ernie was to be the boy in her dreams tonight.
Who'd ya think you're kiddin'
He's the Earth and heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden
Honey, we can see right through you
Girl, ya can't conceal it
We know how ya feel and
Who you're thinking of

Early the next morning, Pansy woke to find Millicent staring at her. Pansy squeaked in shock. "Millie, don't do that!" Pansy yelled as she quickly tried to cover herself with the blanket. "You scared me!"
Millie smirked. "I meant nothing by it," Millie lied and Pansy snorted at her response. "Anyway, I should let you know. The entire school knows you were out snogging with Ernie Macmillan last night."
Pansy sat up in bed, her eyes wide. "The entire school?" Pansy couldn't believe it.
No chance, no way
I won't say it, no, no
"That is what I just said," Millicent answered wryly. "Malfoy seems to have taken it upon himself to alert the everyone that you are cheating on him with Ernie." Pansy's horrified face made Millie cackle with laughter as she walked out of the dormitory.
"But I broke up with him!" Pansy yelled. Oh, the little ferret isn't getting away with this one, she thought angrily. Pansy jumped out of bed and threw on her school robes. What am I going to do?
Pansy rushed out of the dormitory into the common room where Draco Malfoy was now lounging on the couch. Looking up as his ex-girlfriend walked in, he smirked and stood up. "Ready to come back now, Pans?" he asked, blocking her way out of the common room.
Not in the mood for this, Pansy raised her hand and smacked Malfoy straight across the face. "Don't you dare talk to me," Pansy said angrily, shoving Malfoy into the couch as he staggered. Being called 'Pans' again made Pansy certain that Draco didn't care about her at all. She had mentioned it to him at least ten times in their relationship.
"Pansy, you're being stupid," Malfoy said quickly just as Pansy was about to leave. His comment intrigued Pansy and she voiced her opinion in retaliation.
"Is that a hint of jealousy in your voice, Draco?" she asked sweetly. Pansy smiled an evil grin before walking out of the Slytherin common room entrance before Malfoy could say another word.
The walk up the steps to the Great Hall brought quite a colorful tinge to Pansy's cheeks. Ernie had to be worth it. He just had to be. Pansy thought back to last night where Ernie had asked her permission to kiss her. She couldn't help but sigh in content at the memory. He had been such a gentleman... No other boy could be like that, could they?
You swoon, you sigh
Why deny it, uh oh
Pansy's continuous thoughts flooded her as she walked into the Great Hall for breakfast. Is Ernie really worth risking everything? Could they handle all the rumors and gossip that would float around about the two of them?
Either she was imagining things, or the entire Great Hall had hushed as she walked in. Almost every student was staring at her as she walked to sit by Millicent at the Slytherin table. Luckily, Millicent was stupid enough not to realize how serious the situation really was. Or did she really understand what was going on?
"Millie, do you care that I chose Ernie Macmillan?" Pansy asked. Sure, Millicent may look dumb, but when it came to things like this, she knew what was going on.
"Pansy, I'll still associate with you, if that's what you're hinting at," Millicent informed her. "However, it's your funeral."
Pansy's smugness filtered around the table as those near Millicent laughed at her comment. Questions of, "Is it really true," reverberated in her ears constantly, and as Pansy stared at the other tables, groups were huddled together whispering and pointing at her. None were smiling or giggling.
It's too cliche
I won't say I'm in love
Draco Malfoy walked into the Great Hall to an amount of gasps from the ladies in the room. Pansy watched his progress over to the Slytherin table and to her dismay, she watched as Malfoy winked to one of the girls at the Ravenclaw table.
What's worse, Draco walked right over to Pansy and took a seat next to her. This prompted the entire Great Hall to hiss in disgust at Pansy, while she looked down at her breakfast plate no longer hungry.
Malfoy slipped his arm around Pansy and whispered, "Give up?" A smirk fell on his face, when Pansy looked up with angry tears in her eyes.
"Leave me alone!" Pansy yelled, getting up from the table, the tears still falling down her red cheeks. "Do you enjoy making me miserable?"
"It's quite a hobby now, yes," Malfoy replied smoothly, unmoved by Pansy's tears.
Pansy shook her head and stormed out of the Great Hall in front of the faces of shocked students. That was his plan, she thought as she opened the double doors into the Entrance Hall. Now, it just looked like he broke up with me, because I cheated on him. Great job, Pansy.
I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming get a grip, girl
Unless you're dying to cry your heart out
Oh
Not watching where she was headed, she ran straight into Ernie Macmillan. He grabbed Pansy's shoulders and she freaked out as she looked up into the Ernie's eyes. He was the last person she was expecting to run into. Also, there was the fact that it wasn't really a great time to run into someone while you were crying.
"Pansy, are you all right?" Ernie asked, reaching up to brush the tears out of her eyes, but Pansy backed up out of his reach. "You mustn't let the rumor get to you."
Pansy shook her head. "I-It's not that, it's just that Malfoy staged the entire thing. I feel like kicking myself, because n-now it looks like he just broke up with me in front of the entire school. I'm going to be hated by absolutely everyone!"
Ernie shook his head. He reached out and brought Pansy to him in a hug. "I won't hate you, you know that," Ernie told her quietly. Pansy pulled herself out of Ernie's hug. Now definitely wasn't the best time.
"I have to go," Pansy muttered and rushed off towards the dungeons, leaving Ernie to watch her leave helplessly.
You keep on denying
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby, we're not buying
Hun, we saw ya hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When ya gonna own up
That ya got, got, got it bad
Pansy ran up through the deserted Slytherin common room straight into her dormitory, her tears slowly beginning to stop. She sniffed quietly and looked at herself in the mirror on the wall. Oh, Merlin, I look awful! Pansy quickly muttered a spell to make herself look decent. She had to look good for class, which started in ten minutes.
Oh no, Pansy thought. The class she had next was Transifguration. Both Ernie and Draco would be in there, which made things even worse. Why does everything have to be so complicated? A new thought struck Pansy. Why did she care that Malfoy would be there? Is Malfoy still in the picture?
"No, no, no, no, no, no!" Pansy yelled as she picked up her bag. "He's not the one I want, why did I even think that?"
No chance, no way
I won't say it no, no
Pansy headed out of the Slytherin common room once again, this time towards Professor McGonagall's classroom. Focusing on the lesson was the last thing from her mind. Once in front of the classroom door, she lifted her head high and walked into the room.
Ernie was already sitting in his seat once Pansy walked into the room and she took her normal seat behind him. He turned around and looked at Pansy. "Are you all right, now?" Ernie asked sincerely.
Pansy nodded slightly and grinned. Thanks to my thoughts of you, she thought. Unfortunately, she didn't say this out loud.
Ernie smiled back and said, "Are we going to be passing notes today?" he asked.
Pansy laughed. "Sure," she answered and pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill.
"I'll start," Ernie offered and took the parchment and quill out of her hands. For a brief moment, their hands touched and Pansy blushed slightly.
Give up, give in
Check the grin you're in love
More students walked into the room and took their seats. Draco walked in just before the bell rang and quickly took his seat in the back as Professor McGonagall admonished him for almost being late. As soon as Professor McGonagall turned her back, Ernie passed Pansy the first note of class.
Listen, I need to tell you something important. Draco tried to pick a fight with me before class started. I think he really is mad about you. He just doesn't want to admit he's wrong.
Pansy looked puzzled. What is he getting at? That he doesn't want to be with me? Pansy wrote a reply back, which read, Perhaps, but I don't understand why. He keeps humiliating me.
This scene won't play
I won't say I'm in love
Professor McGonagall turned her back on the class to write about making items flip. Although Pansy understood how to do this, she would expect something like this to come up in Charms class, not Transfiguration.
McGonagall quickly explained about how in Transfiguration, a simple flipping spell was much more difficult to do on an item during transformation. The flipping spell gives you a better idea of how the transformation happened by looking at the item from all angles.
Ernie quickly tossed her another reply. The reason why is you're amazing, that's why.
Pansy gaped at the note. Forget having the item do flips...
You're doing flips read our lips
You're in love
The bell rang and Pansy tried to rush out of the room, but Ernie stopped her quickly. "Are we still on for the Astronomy Tower tonight?" Ernie asked.
Pansy nodded her head yes and headed off to the Great Hall for her free period.
* * *
Later that night, Pansy was ready to head out towards the Astronomy Tower, but Draco Malfoy stopped her for one last time that night. Pansy rolled her eyes and waited for him to say what he needed to say.
"Pansy, I think you need to reconsider what you're doing with Ernie," Draco said exasperatedly. "I want you back!"
"Well, you really have a funny way of showing it," Pansy answered. "You really have a lot of problems, Malfoy, and I wouldn't take you back if you paid me."
She tried to shove past Malfoy, but he stopped her. "Pansy, please," Malfoy said politely.
"Wow, you actually said please," Pansy said in shock. "I thought Malfoy's didn't beg?" She tried to shove past Malfoy again, but he kept blocking her. "Malfoy, MOVE!"
Draco stood his ground and stared at her. "You have to really listen to me," Malfoy said, trying to get Pansy to stand still.
Pansy sighed. She was going to regret doing this later on. She raised her fist and punched Malfoy hard in the nose. "You deserved that," Pansy said, walking towards the Slytherin common room entrance as Draco cursed at his broken, bloody nose.
You're way off base
I won't say it
Get off my case
I won't say it
Pansy broke out into a run as she headed towards the Astronomy Tower. Luckily, it was only around quarter to eight, so Pansy slowed down to a walk. By the time she reached the Astronomy tower, she was five minutes early. She leaned against the wall to wait.
The clock struck eight and Ernie still didn't show. Don't freak Pansy, you were two minutes late last night. She laughed at the memory. Now, she could rub it in his face for being late.
Ernie showed up five minutes late and quickly apologized. He was panting and out of breath.
"You're late," Pansy observed. "For once, I beat you." She grinned and laughed at Ernie's mystified expression. "What? Are you going to say something or just stand there and stare?"
Ernie smiled. "You're amazing."
Pansy grinned. "I know I am," she said, acting all snobby. Ernie took her into his arms.
Girl, don't be proud
It's okay you're in love
Ernie looked at Pansy with sincerity. "Did you make a decision?"
"I did," Pansy said. "Draco tried to take me back before I came here, but I punched him in the face."
"Pansy!" Ernie answered shocked. "So I'm guessing that means you chose me, then?" Ernie asked, his smile widening.
Pansy smiled. "I don't believe anything else needs to be said," she whispered and leaned in for a long and passionate kiss.
Oh
At least out loud,
I won't say I'm in love
