Chapter Three: Vengeful Feelings

Kodac waited at a table in the corner of the Three Broomsticks.   He felt naked without his sword, as he only took it off to sleep.  Parvati had told him that Madam Rosmerta would not allow any weapons of any kind in her pub (wands excluded) and so he reluctantly left it at Hogwarts.  Hermione had searched through the library to find the Seabring equivalent of the Summoning Charm, but had of yet to find success.  In any case, Parvati could always summon it for him, once she arrived.

Kodac was just starting to feel anxious when Parvati suddenly sat down across the table from him.  They had barely greeted each other when Madam Rosmerta appeared, ready for their order.  After looking over the menus, Kodac ordered a round steak, well done, a baked potato, and a glass of butter beer, while Parvati asked for a Caesar salad with French dressing, a couple pork chops, and a butter beer as well.  Madam Rosmerta noted their orders on a note pad and whisked off to take other orders and give them to the cook.

After some small talk, Kodac voiced something that had been on his mind.  “Do you ever wonder what Vo…ah…You-Know-Who,” he said quietly, as though worried that they’d be overheard, “is up to?  Surely he hasn’t been still these past months?”

Parvati shook her head.  “I haven’t really thought about it.  I suppose you could always see Professor Dumbledore about it, though,” she replied.

Madam Rosmerta reappeared, their orders on a tray.  She smiled as she placed the food in front of them, and after a quick greeting, she disappeared into the crowd.  They dug into their meal.

Malfoy sulked down the corridor towards the library.  He muttered under his breath, “Trust McGonagall to give us a research assignment on the second week.”  He opened the door to the library and entered the quiet stillness.

He was scanning the shelves in the Transfiguration section when he overheard two people whispering to each other.

“I’ve look through almost all the books on Seabring,” one began, “but I haven’t found anything.”

“Let’s keep looking, there’s got to be something somewhere,” the other replied.

Malfoy smirked and crept along the bookshelf, and peered around the corner.  There, sitting at a table and nearly hidden from view of each other by piles of books, were Harry and Hermione.  Malfoy’s grin broadened, but it turned into a frown as Madam Pince came over.

“Can I help you two?” the librarian asked.

”If you can tell us where to find books on Seabringean magic, yes,” Harry replied, flipping through the pages of Seabringean Culture.  Madam Pince scowled thoughtfully, and then went over to the bookshelf.  After scanning the shelves for a minute, she plucked a small, inconspicuous book from the third shelf and showed it to Hermione.

“Thanks, Madam Pince,” Hermione took the book.  The librarian nodded once and headed off elsewhere, after waving her wand to set all the other books back to their places.  Harry caught sight of Malfoy.

“What do you want, Malfoy?” he asked.  “Looking for other worldly magic?”  Hermione whirled around in her seat as Malfoy stepped into full view.

“Actually, I was about to start on McGonagall’s assignment, but I overheard you two whispering about magic,” he replied with a malevolent grin, “and decided to listen in.”

Harry fingered his wand, which was in his pocket.  Malfoy spoke again, now looking at Hermione, “I’m sure that book will give the answers I need, so hand it over, Mudblood.”  His face was distorted by the expression of contained fury.  Hermione clutched the book tighter.  In response, Malfoy pulled his wand, pointed it at the book, and was about to say “Accio!” when Harry whipped out his own wand and very nearly shouted, “Impedimenta!”  Malfoy, now moving so slowly it looked as though he wasn’t moving at all, stood stock-still.  Harry and Hermione darted away.

Voldemort, using Lucius Malfoy’s wand, chanted into the darkness of his dungeon, “Ahgo sioe ueafhgcaue aome.  Iwa oseagh labumbae sreenaywana.  Ahgo sioe ueafhgcaue aome.  Iwa oseagh labumbae sreenaywana! AHGO SIOE UEAFHGCAUE AOME!  IWA OSEAGH LABUMBAE SREENAYWANA!”  With this final incantation, a whirlpool shimmered into view, standing upright against the wall.  Voldemort now pulled out a copy of his wand, the only difference being that the copy had a core of dragon heartstring.  With a smirk of satisfaction, he stepped into the portal.

Kodac suddenly felt uneasy.  He and Parvati were walking back up to the castle.  Not paying attention where his feet were stepping, he stumbled on a loose rock and almost fell.

“Are you alright?” Parvati asked, holding him up.  Kodac nodded, but Parvati saw the troubled look on his face and in his eyes.  “What’s wrong?”

“I’m not sure….” Kodac trailed off.  Looking up, he saw the front doors of Hogwarts.  He suddenly bolted toward them, with Parvati panting to keep up.  Kodac felt that he had to see Dumbledore as soon as possible.

A/N: My Works Suite program is messing up again, so don’t pay any mind to the extra lines down at the bottom.

Next Chapter:  Why does Kodac need to see Dumbledore? And where does Voldemort think he’s going?  And will Hermione and Harry find the Summoning spell that Seabringeans use?  These and more questions will be answered in the next chapter.
