This Was It, The End

He'd left his motorbike with Hagrid, he wouldn't need it. He would probably never need, or want it, ever again. It would remind him too painfully of Lily and James, of his childhood.

His long black hair was flying in front of his face, obscuring his vision, but he carried on running. He was desperate to catch up with that traitor, and he was the only one left who knew the whole story.

He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes; tears were falling down his cheeks. He was crying as though he had never cried before.

Why did they have to go? Why would Voldemort want to kill an innocent child? What kind of Satan like, treacherous piece of filth would sell his best friend up, to save his one skin?

Questions like this pounded in Sirius' head as he ran. He seemed to have forgotten that he was a wizard, forgotten that he could apparate straight to Wormtail. It was as though the strength of emotions he was feeling from loosing his friends had engulfed every reason-giving brain cell in him.

Why Lily? That's what he truly didn't understand. She was like their princess; he'd never met anyone so kind; she was as much a Marauder as the rest of them. Her loving, welcoming, emerald eyes; her warm, flame like head of hair, but it was all gone now, and so was she.

And then there was Prongs. In years to come, Sirius would still never be able to block that face out of his head. He'd never been as close to anyone as he was to James. He could see his body now, as though it was blocking his sight even more than his own hair, lying cold, still and finally defeated. Sirius remembered how James still had an obscure smile on his handsome features, as though the spell hadn't harmed him at all.

This thought, although still consumed in grief, made Sirius smile. It was always like James to be the optimist, even if he was a bit thick at times; he never let anything spoil his feelings. It took him seven years of constant persistence for Lily to finally cave in and allow him to take her out on a date.

While remembering Hogwarts, another painful feeling joined his emotions... guilt. He'd honestly believed that Remus had been the one passing information to Voldemort. How could he have been so cruel, so stupid? Now he thought about it, he knew it would never have been Moony, it could only have been Pettigrew. Remus never tried to follow around people who were bigger or better than himself, but Wormtail on the other hand... Oh why had he never noticed this before?

This whole fiasco had been his fault. If he'd not been so cowardly, and took up the position of Secret Keeper himself, none of this would've happened.

But the fact remained that he didn't, and now he was going to sort out this whole mess once and for all, the only way he knew how. He was known for acting on impulse, not thinking things through, and little known to himself, Sirius Black was about to make the biggest mistake of his life.

Sirius spotted Pettigrew from across the crowded Muggle street. It was almost lunch-time by now, and the place was packed with Muggle shoppers.

Wormtail turned to face him, fear ridden across his whole persona. Sirius reached for his wand, this was it, the end.
