November 5, 1997.
At ten in the morning in the Hogwarts castle in Europe, the only people awake were a group of students in the Gryffindor Common Room.
"God, I'm so glad it's a Saturday."
"I suppose."
"Ginny, are you okay? Ever since Halloween you've been acting really, really oddly."
"'M fine. Tired."
"Are you sure? Did something happen?" Ginny just shook her head, the long red hair covering her face.
"Why don't you talk to me?"
"'S nothing, Harry."
"Was it Malfoy? If he said something, I'll break his face!"
Just a day, just an ordinary day,
Just tryin' to get by.
Just a boy, just an ordinary boy,
But he was lookin' to the sky
"Just shut up! You don't know anything! God, you're so bloody annoying! If you want to baby somebody, go bloody find Hermione! Jesus Christ!" Ginny walked out on Harry, her face matching the colour of her hair. She was walking to the Great Hall, when she turned a corner and collided with Draco Malfoy.
"Ginny?"
"Draco? I mean. . . Malfoy. What d'you want?"
"Er. . . I was just wondering if. . . you were planning anything today?"
"Um. . . besides being annoyed with Potter, no. Why?"
"Well I was wondering if you wanted to maybe come to Hogsmeade with me. . . we could have a Butterbeer or something." He looked down and actually blushed.
And as he asked if I would come along,
I started to realize that everyday he finds just what he's looking for,
Like a shooting star, he shines.
Ginny looked at Draco for a minute, just looked at him. She saw a boy who had been misunderstood and the object of so much prejudice that he simply went along with it just to make life simpler. She didn't know why she should trust him, just something inside her seemed to scream "What the fuck are you waiting for?"
"Sure, that'd be great." He smiled and took her hand.
And he said take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see that dreams lie
Right in the palm of your hand.
They walked together through Hogsmeade, ignoring the incredulous looks of their housemates. In the Three Broomsticks, Draco and Ginny sat down with mugs of Butterbeer.
"So, Ginny. . ."
"Yeah. . . can I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
"That night in the hallway, why did you talk to me? You seemed nicer, less of a malicious bastard, to quote my overgrown brother."
"Well, there's just something about you. I dunno if it's just because you're so pretty, or something else. It just makes me want to hold you and tell you that nothing can ever hurt you while I'm around."
And as he spoke he spoke ordinary words,
Though they did not feel
For I felt what I hadn't felt before,
And you'd swear those word's could heal
Ginny blushed, nobody had ever said such nice things to her without having some sort of double meaning.
"I know what you're talking about." She lifted her gaze from her lap and stared him in the face. "It's like there's some sort of pull, and you can't stay away." Draco leaned forward and gave her a small, chaste kiss on the lips.
" Come on, there's something I want to show you."
"O. . .okay." He pulled her up and out of the Three Broomsticks, knocking over Colin Creevy and Neville Longbottom snogging in a corner. He pulled Ginny to the end of Hogsmeade, where there was a small park. There were trees with leaves of vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. They sat under a small tree, and Ginny leant her head on Draco's shoulder.
And as I looked up into those eyes,
His vision borrows mine,
And I know he's no stranger,
For I feel I've held him for all of time
They sat for hours, not always talking, sometimes just sitting and thinking, sometimes kissing.
"Ginny?"
"Mhmm?"
"This feels right."
"Yeah, it really does."
"Maybe next time we could go together again?"
"I'd really like that."
"Me too."
And he said take my hand,
Live while you can,
Don't you see that dreams lie
Right in the palm of your hand.
They walked back up to the castle holding hands, and were about to enter the school when Harry, Ron, and Hermione ran up to them.
"Ginny! What the fuck d'you think you're doing?"
"Walking, Ron, it's not illegal, is it?"
"Ginny, that's Malfoy! Why the hell are you near that slimy git?"
"Potter, I'm not blind. I'll walk with whomever I damn well please!" she screamed.
"Ginny, please, we're doing this for your own good, he's not a good influence, besides, you have a test tomorrow, you need to study!"
"Granger, next time she wants your opinion she'll ask you for it."
"Please, everybody. BUGGER OFF!! Harry, I'll thank you kindly not to refer to my date as a slimy git. Ron, I'm not a bloody first year, I can think for myself. Same goes for you, Hermione. I value our friendship, but I think I know what I'm doing." Ginny kissed Draco on the lips, a passionate kiss that made Ron gag.
"See you next time, Draco."
"Until then, Gin."
