Yesenia Isabella Hernandez

The sun was already in the sky when Draco's eyes finally opened the next morning. He stumbled out of bed grumbling to himself only to see a new stack of money on his bedside table. Stretching, he went to wash up in the bathroom before venturing out into the town once again in search of something to eat. He walked through the small town lazily wandering into shops; purchasing anything that caught his fancy. In all his wandering he ended up in the very place he'd fled from on the previous day, the fortuneteller's shop. Something about the place attracted him to it. His curiosity won him over and he made a beeline for the shabby building, all other thoughts momentarily pushed from his mind. With a small amount of trepidation, he opened the door and met the potent smell of incense.

"Ah, you're back," the fortuneteller said in a silky voice while she gave a slight laugh.

"Erm, yeah I am... I figured I'd get my money's worth," Draco said.

"Come then, sit here," she motioned to the chair across from her. Draco went to the chair and sat. "Give me your hands, por favor," He did so and she closed her eyes seemingly concentrating on him. "Señor, I sense that you are a very troubled young man...I see you facing a life defining problem... a decision....in the end you will be changed forever... good or evil... love or power... you decide your precious fate young one," she said all the while speaking in raspy monotone that was unnerving to raco. All in all he thought the fortune was a load of rubbish, a spooky load of rubbish at that.

She gasped and opened her eyes blinking back tears and breathing heavily. Draco got up, wiped his hands on his pants quickly and turned to exit, but he was stopped by something. He could feel eyes boring into him.

"Are you hungry?" her voice was back to its normal smooth and misty tone. "You can stay if you want. I'm about to eat lunch anyway."

Draco didn't necessarily want to stay, but before he could decline the invitation his stomach gave an extremely loud growl.

"Yeah, I guess," Draco muttered while he mentally cursed his stomach for giving him away.

"Bueno, follow me. The kitchen is upstairs," she replied in a not so misty voice.

The girl with the eyes led Draco up a rickety staircase that led to a small, but immaculate kitchen. Draco stood in the center of the kitchen and looked around in mild shock. He had thought that people living above their shops was something that only happened in stories because he's never seen it first hand. Until now.

Meanwhile the girl had busied herself chopping vegetables and seasoning the tortillas and cheese. After a minute or two she abruptly stopped cooking and turned around. She had a worried look on her face as she stared at Draco.

"I'm sorry. You don't even know who I am," she said in a slow voice, "and I don't know who you are."

"Draco Malfoy," Draco said as a smug smile fluttered to his lips.

"Yesenia Isabella Hernandez," Yesenia replied, holding out her hand to him. "My brothers call me Nia though."

Draco tried to give a convincing smile before he took her hand. He shuddered inwardly trying not to think of all the germs that were probably leaping on to him. After the quick handshake, Nia turned back to the stove to continue making lunch and Draco wiped his hands once again on his trousers. Draco took a seat at the small table and watched Nia. She wasn't beautiful in the classical sense, just simply pretty. Her skin was sun kissed and she was tall and slender. Her hair only reached her chin that was slightly pointed and, besides the scar across her eye, she had several other scars visible on her arms.

Draco's observations were stopped when Nia put a plate down in front of him that was piled high with tapas and rice with various vegetables.

"Enjoy!" Nia said digging into her food.

Draco tentatively took a bite only to find the food was delicious. Since they were both busy eating, there was minimal conversation during lunch.

"Give me another plate," Draco commanded when he had finished with his first. "Now!"

Nia looked at him incredulously. 'Who made him so high and mighty to order me around?' she thought to herself not getting up.

"So, where are you from?" Nia said in an annoyed voice. She was trying to ignore Draco's discourteous behavior.

"I'm from England. My family and I are here for the holiday," he replied. His tone was similar to hers because she hadn't gotten his food yet. Draco was used to people waiting on him hand and foot so, when Yesenia ignored his request he became angry. "I thought I told you to get me another plate," he said in a sharp voice.
"Well, you did tell me to get you a plate, but unfortunately for you," Nia said in an abnormally cheery voice, "I don't take orders from you. I'm not your slave. The counter is three steps from where you're sitting. Why don't you get yourself up and get your own food." Nia gave Draco a quick, fake smile that turned into a scowl with great speed. Draco gave an incredulous snort.

"You have got to be joking," he started to say, but was cut short by Nia.

"I've only known you for a day and you have got to be the most arrogant, insufferable idiot I've ever met!" Nia proclaimed hotly.

"Who do you think you are?" Draco demanded. "Don't you talk to me like you're better then me you filthy, good-for-nothing, stupid, Muggle bitch who's ugly to boot!" He laughed. "You will never be on the same level as me!"

By this time both Draco and Yesenia were standing up. Their food lay forgotten on the table. If looks could kill Draco would have died because Yesenia was staring daggers at him. She was trying to calm herself, but her stupid temper was getting the best of her, as always.

When she spoke next it was in a voice that was forced to be calm. "If you have the audacity to come into my home and insult me like that with out a second thought, I would hate to see what your parents would do. The apple never falls far from the tree, right?"

Draco's grey eyes flashed. His breath was labored. The only other person who made him this angry was that git, Potter. This little girl shouldn't have this affect on him.

"You wouldn't even be able to come into the same room as my parents. You 're not... classy enough," he smirked as he pulled several euros out of his pocket. "This is for you trouble," he said as he dropped the money on the floor.

Draco turned on his heels and began walking down the stairs. He was self-content because he'd gotten the last word.

"You shouldn't have bothered," Yesenia yelled after him, "you'll just be back tomorrow to get it back."

"Yeah, right," he replied sarcastically before he slammed the door behind him.

She waited until she heard the door slam shut before, uncertainly, stooping to pick up the money. Yesenia pushed away the shame that was building in her and took the money to her father's room. She might feel some shame, but her family wasn't exactly rich and sometimes she had to push pride aside when it came between money and food. She pulled a tin can from under her father's bed. The tin was almost empty. She placed the money inside. As much as she detested Draco, she was somewhat grateful to him because maybe now with the extra money he had thrown down, she and her brothers would be able to get new robes when they returned to Luna Azul Escuela de Mágica.

With a deep sigh, Yesenia left her father's room for herown room. She changed out of her gypsy setup, and into old jeans and a loose shirt. After putting her hair in a ponytail she ran out of the house in search of her brothers, Tomasito and Eduardo.

. Yesenia found them in a nearby field with some of the other boys from the town and challenged them to a game of fútbol. They played long and hard and she forgot about Draco. She won, of course, causing Eduardo and Tomasito to tackle her. She fell to the ground laughing.

Draco stormed out of Nia's home in a horrible state of fury. He returned to his hotel room so he could be alone while he pouted about her insults. He plopped down on his bed and covered his face with his hands. 'Yesenia,' he thought, 'what kind of bloody name is that anyway? She is the, most annoying, unattractive, ill tempered, stupid, arrogant hag I've ever met. And that's saying something when it comes from some one who's known Pansy Parkinson for the past 6 years of his life!' Draco let out an exasperated groan. 'Who is she to mouth off at me? She doesn't even know me! Everything she said was... was... the truth.' Draco's hands fell down from his face at this thought.
