Chapter 5: Detention

Looking down at her wrist, Harry couldn´t help but feel a little disappointed at its smoothness. `There´s no scar,´ he thought. `She´s not Hermione.´

"Sorry," he whispered, keeping his head down as he let go of her wrist and began to make his way back to the castle.

"We miss Hermione," he said, waiting for the portrait leading into Gryffindor to open. Stepping inside, he noticed Ron sitting by the fire with his Potions homework.

"Ron," he said, sitting on the chair across from the other boy´s, "we need to talk," Harry sighed, before telling him what had just happened.

Making her way back to the castle, Chloe ran into a frantic-looking Draco.

"There you are!" he exclaimed. "We have Potions in exactly five minutes! I know Snape is your father and all but I´m pretty sure he wouldn´t think twice about giving us both a detention!" With that, he grabbed her hand and pulled her along as they ran down the corridors toward the dungeons, hoping to get there before Professor Snape.

As they opened the classroom door, they found themselves completely out of luck at the sight of Professor Snape already at his desk.

"Mister Malfoy," he began, sneering slightly at the sight before him. "Miss Laurent, care to explain why you are late on your first day?"

"Well, you see, sir," Chloe stuttered, looking anywhere but her father´s face. "I- I got lost a-and Draco w-was just helping me g-get to class."

"Well, Mister Malfoy, since your tardiness was actually an unfortunate act of kindness, you are excused," he said, turning his attention to the girl presumed to be his daughter. "However, Miss Laurent, you have no valid excuse for being late and therefore will be serving detention tonight at 8 o´clock. Now sit down."

The class seemed to be dragging on longer than usual, as everyone worked quietly in hopes of not upsetting Professor Snape. Suddenly, the silence of the classroom was shattered as a cauldron across the room emitted a puff of red smoke.

"Mr. Potter!" Snape roared, making his way toward the ruined potion. "What did you do, you insolent boy!? You added Fluxweed! What did I tell you!? Do NOT add Fluxweed until the end! 20 points from Gryffindor and detention tonight at 8 o´clock!"

Once the class was dismissed, Severus sat down at his desk and watched as his "daughter" ran out of the room before any of the other students even had a chance to get up. He knew he´d been cruel to her but he couldn´t seem to stop himself. She looked so much like Arwen that it unnerved him just to look at the girl.

Sighing, he looked around the empty classroom and knew he had to do something before she hated him more than her "mother" did. He got up quickly and made his way to the Headmaster´s office.

~*~*~*~

"What may I help you with, Severus?" the Headmaster asked the man seated across from him. He knew the younger man had quite a lot on his mind, but had learned better than to force it out of him. He knew that with time Severus would open up and tell him the problem. However, this time the Headmaster was almost positive he already knew what it was.

"It´s about Miss Granger," Snape began, confirming the Headmaster´s suspicions.

"Miss Laurent," the Headmaster corrected, smiling softly.

"Fine; Miss Laurent. There is something about her, Albus. She is exactly like Arwen. She speaks, moves, acts, and looks just like her. I know the potion would make her look like Arwen´s daughter, but-" Snape said, stopping briefly, "-but it wouldn´t make her act this way. That´s what makes it so bloody difficult! I can´t help but be cruel and heartless toward this girl. I´m unable to get through my lessons with her in the room. I don´t know how to act or what to say to her, because every time I look at her face I feel what Arwen made me feel; anger, frustration...hatred."

"Well, Severus, there isn´t much that can change in this situation, but have you considered writing Arwen?" the Headmaster asked, "It may clear some things up and make this year more bearable for you and Miss Laurent. I´m quite certain that she would appreciate not having detention every night for the remainder of the year."

"You´re right, Albus," the younger man answered. "It may be the best thing to do."

"I must agree that Miss Laurent looks like a duplicate of her mother; you did a wonderful job recreating Arwen´s eyes. They look just like hers used to before she began to enchant them," the Headmaster said, smiling softly at the memory of a young and innocent girl.

"Albus," Severus said looking up, his voice just above a whisper, "I never changed her eyes."

Walking into the Slytherin common room, Draco saw exactly who he´d been searching for: Pansy. Strolling over to the chair, which she occupied, he cleared his throat to announce his presence.

"Oh, Draco! Hello!" Pansy said, smiling warmly.

"Hello, Pansy," he replied coolly. "Did you attend the meeting?"

"Yes," she whispered. "The Dark Lord is very disappointed in the Mudblood´s v escape but he is very pleased with you."

"Is he, now?" Draco asked, smirking, as he sat down in the chair nearest Pansy´s.

"Oh, yes! He is very happy that you have found Arwen´s daughter at last," Pansy answered excitedly. "Apparently, she´s been missing for fifteen years!"

"Arwen´s daughter?" Draco asked, slightly startled. "She cannot possibly be the daughter of Arwen Laurent!"

"Oh, but she is!" Pansy said, leaning closer. "The Dark Lord knew it was her the minute I confirmed her eye color. He said that only a powerful sorceress like Arwen could have Chameleon Eyes. He wants her to be presented into the circle as soon as possible."

Leaning back in his chair, Draco let his thoughts wander. `He fell for it,´ he thought. `Voldemort fell for it. He actually believed that Granger would just turn her back on her friends and run away...but was she really just `Granger´?´ Voldemort didn´t seem to think so. He thought she was Arwen´s precious daughter. The daughter every Death Eater had searched all of England for sixteen years ago. He thought she was what the fates had predicted. `He actually believes she is capable of opening the Gates to Hell.´ he thought, an amused smile spreading across his lips at the absurd idea. `Granger? Opening the Gates to Hell? Now that´s a joke.´
