Harry Potter and the Ruin of Tears

Chapter 7- The Lost Lore of Old

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the Weasley twins continued talking about what had happened in the Ruin. They repeatedly asked Harry about the Flaming Doorway. Harry told them about the voices he heard throughout the corridors. Suddenly Mrs. Weasley woke up.

"What....what happened?" asked Mrs. Weasley while holding her head in her palm, "I have the worst bloody headache ever. I feel like I was knocked out..."

"What are you talking about, Mum?" Fred asked as innocently as possible.

"Do you want something to drink or eat, Mum?" asked George while helping her to get up.

"No...I'm fine dear..." Mrs. Weasley suddenly saw the burn mark on the floor that the others were trying to hide. "WHAT IN BLAZES IS THAT?" she said while pointing to the burn mark. "DID YOU EXPLODE DUNGBOMBS IN HERE AND THEN CLEAN IT UP AGAIN?" She tapped her foot impatiently, suddenly cured of her headache.

"Uh..." George said, "Yea, that's it, we exploded Dungbombs..."

"We just forgot to clean up the burn mark...oops," said Fred.

"What a day....what a day," said Mrs. Weasley, focusing on her headache once again, "Clean that up! Hurry! Before the others come back from Egyptor wherever they are. I'll go and get some tea ready."

Mrs. Weasley sulked into the kitchen.

"Whew, that was a close one," said Ron.

"I'm really surprised at you, Fred and George," said Hermione.

"Why's that?" asked Fred.

"You came up with the idea of a portable door and you only got three OWLS!" she said.

"Oh...that," said George, "well, we never really cared much about school." Fred and George grinned at this remark.

Hermione said "I'm going to go to my room and relax. You should too."

Harry swore he heard Hermione say "They will never change..."

They tried cleaning the floor. Most of it came off, but you could tell that the wood was singed. They decided to put something on top of it to hide it. They moved the furniture around as to block the burn marks from view when they heard many familiar pops behind them.

"Professor Dumbledore," said Fred, quickly turning around as to make like he was doing nothing, "we weren't expecting you so soon."

"Well," began Dumbledore, "we decided to take a quick break while we head on for the next orb."

"Where is the next orb?" asked Harry.

"Well..." Dumbledore said, "I'd rather have you stay here then follow us. I find it better not to tell you, for your own safety."

"Oh...all right," Harry said in a defeated tone, "but won't Voldemort try and steal the orbs we collect?"

"Yes, I believe he shall," said Dumbledore, "that's why I decided I shall keep the orbs with me at all times. I don't want to take a risk. Well, hello Molly."

"Hello, Professor," replied Mrs. Weasley, "I hope you had a safe trip and a successful one at that."

"Yes we did," said Dumbledore, patting his pocket, which was filled with something small and round, with his hand.

"Good," said Mrs. Weasley, "I hope your next one goes as planned as well and I hope the kids don't interfere this time."

"Oh, I'm sure they won't." Dumbledore smiled at Harry.

Everyone except Dumbledore and Harry went into the kitchen.

"Professor," began Harry, "may I ask you a question?"

"Why of course," replied Dumbledore.

"You said that once an elf spirit has talked to you, you can be the only one to get the orb," said Harry.

"Yes, I believe I did say that," said Dumbledore.

"Why did they pick me?" said Harry.

"Oh..." started Dumbledore, "well the Elven spirits of old have many reasons that we may not see. They are an ancient and very powerful race. It's a shame they were wiped out."

"WHAT?" said Harry, "How were they wiped out?"

"It is an extremely long tale," said Dumbledore, "I don't want to bore you."

"No, please," said Harry, "I have all the time you need."

"Well, if you insist," said Dumbledore, "long ago, before the age of man, the elves existed in harmony. The Elves were a peaceful race. There were no wars, no battles. Then the human race arose. They were power hungry and greedy. They would do anything for power, even obey evil itself. Their hearts were easily corrupted and filled with malice and deceit. There was an ancient evil, as I have told you before. It spread darkness like an epidemic, over the entire world."

Dumbledore started walking around the room slowly and continued talking.

"The valor of men failed. Many of the humans joined the dark side and when the elves managed to seal the evil away, they waged war against the elves. They were an evil race to wipe out such beautiful creatures. A price must be paid for wiping out such nobility and beauty. They were punished."

"So before," began Harry, "the whole world was divided into two races?"

"Yes indeed," said Dumbledore.

"Wow, to think...that means we are all related," said Harry while in deep thought.

"One could assume that," said Dumbledore while fidgeting, "They were separated into different races, to war on each other and wage battles. Now, the evil has arisen and I assure you that evil shall blossom in the heart of humans. As Alastor says, constant vigilance!" Dumbledore paused then let out a slightly exhausted sigh.

"Well, I better step into the kitchen and rest up a bit," Dumbledore continued.

"Thank you, Professor," said Harry.

"You're very welcome, Mr. Potter," replied Dumbledore.

Everyone was in the kitchen now, drinking tea, and eating biscuits. There was silence for some time until Ron spoke.

"So where are you off to now?" Ron asked.

"Well," began Tonks, "we are not going to look for it for a while."

"Why?" asked Harry.

"Let's just say it's in a safe place," said Tonks, "which gives us a while to relax and prepare. Anyway, we are all not going to go. That's unnecessary."

"Why?" asked Harry, "Won't the Death Eaters try and steal it?"

"Mr. Potter,"began Dumbledore, "the only way to find the orbs are to be given clues and be guided by the elven spirits. Also the next orb is in a place Voldemort would never dare to go..."

"Where is that?" asked Hermione with great interest.

"And that, Miss Granger," said Dumbledore, "is a mystery that will have to wait to be unfolded."

The next four weeks passed by quickly. Soon they got their supply lists and were off to DiagonAlley. Now it was the day before the start of the term, August 31, which Harry began to get extremely anxious. He couldn't wait to get back to Hogwarts for some apparent reasons and for some reasons not even know by Harry...
