His Secret Revealed

When Ron Weasely first started at Hogwarts, it was a well known fact that he was scared easily. You would be, too, after living with the Weasley twins.

During his years at school, he had faced a three headed dog, a Mountain Troll, large spiders, a willow with violent tendencies and many more. Not to forget the most vain Professor ever --- Gilderoy Lockhart.

After a few years, though, it seemed that nothing could scare Ron as much as a few spiders used to. He felt like nothing was that scary anymore. Living with Fred and George and going to Hogwarts was having an effect on the youngest male of a seven child family. The adoration that surrounded his best friend, Harry Potter - he was used to that. Sticking up for Hermione Granger - it was just a natural thing to do now.

Ron was becoming so much more confident that Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor Quidditch team Captain, had offered him the job as the Gryffindor team spy. Ron thought that since he couldn't be on the team, he would help the them.

So every week, he would hide in the bleachers or bushes and watch the Captains scream out the orders and talk about strategies. Marcus Flint, the Slytherin Captain, could be heard from miles away sometimes while Cedric Diggory, the Hufflepuff Captain could only just be heard.

All the spying Ron did helped Oliver develop strategies against this team. The Slytherin Seeker, Draco Malfoy, was to be honest, really bad. Ron loved nothing more than watching Draco fall off the expensive broomstick his father bought him while trying to grab something the size of a golf ball that Flint would be throw up in the air. As well as throwing the ball up, Flint would also throw up a few choice words when Malfoy missed.

The Ravenclaw Seeker, Cho Chang, was different. She was one of the best. She always concentrated on the snitch but was never hit by the bludgers. Swift and graceful, that was her style of play. She was a joy to watch. Kind of like a ballet with the snitch as her partner and the bludgers as the nasty villain that would try to keep them apart.

If Cho had the grace, then Cedric Diggory had the style. He was the type of Seeker that when he played, he played in such a style that made the crowd focus on him. He was highly talented and very popular. He was a quiet and confident boy who was considered Hufflepuff's best.

When it came to Harry Potter, the Gryffindor Seeker, words could not describe his way of playing. He was undoubtedly the best seeker ever. Harry was the main reason Gryffindor won all of their matches. Sharp eyes, sharper reflexes and owning one of the fastest brooms, although the bludgers always seemed to aim for him in every match he played. It was no shock to everyone when Harry was named Seeker. His father James was also the teams Seeker in his time. James and Harry were almost equal in their talent, but Harry surpassed his father.

To Ron, Harry was his best friend. They would risk their lives for each other if the need ever arose. They could tell each other everything, from Ron's crush on Hermione, to another verbal Malfoy bashing from Harry. Nothing was kept a secret.

Or so Ron thought.

On the way back from the Hogsmeade trip, Oliver had pulled Ron aside, away from Harry and Hermione.

"Oliver, Harry said that Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were conducting a joint night training. Do you know anything about it?"

By the look on his face, Oliver had no idea about it.

Normally Oliver would be on top of things concerning training times for the other teams. While they were well known, Gryffindor was able to keep their training times a secret.

Practices were at all times of the day, and notice was given by a series of code words that the team would drop to each other in a regular conversation. The only flaw in this was that notice would sometimes range from a couple of hours to a couple of minutes before practice. No one complained though, it helped them keep practices and strategies a secret.

"Nothing I'm afraid," Oliver answered. "But it does sound like a novel idea. Probably one of Cedric's."

He faced Ron as they walked.

"Do you think its worth it?" Ron asked, using the code to say we would check it out.

"It might be worth a look," Oliver answered.

"Will you schedule a practice tomorrow, after I report back to you?"

"Um," Oliver paused. "Yeah. Tomorrow, after the feast."

"So that means that I say 'I hear a couple of owls in the Owlery aren't particularly well.' Is that right?"

"Spot on Ron."

Oliver was glad that the code was still easy to remember, but not easy to decipher.

With that, Ron caught up with Harry.

"I hear a couple of owls in the Owlery aren't particularly well."

"Pity," Harry replied. "Tomorrow will be a big day mail wise." This simply meant that Harry understood and would pass it on.

Ron tried to rack his brain for the code to ask Harry for the use of his Invisibility Cloak.

"Oh," he remembered. " It wouldn't be hard to see why they train."

"Yes, that I understand," Harry had just given Ron permission to use his beloved Invisibility Cloak, one of the last links to his late father.

Ron looked toward the Quidditch pitch and noticed that movement in the form of a blue and bronze coloured clothed person.

Harry must have noticed this as he promptly handed Ron his bag.

"It's already in there. Do us proud."

Making sure that no one was watching, Ron pulled the cloak out of the bag and put it on.

"I better hurry," he quietly whispered. " It looks like they're about to start."

With that, all that could be seen of the bright ginger haired boy was a slight silver shimmer as he ran toward the field.

As he neared the field, he noticed that there were only two people on the pitch. Ron recognized one of them as Cedric and the other as the Ravenclaw Captain, Roger Davies.

"Honestly Cedric, do you really think that there's a spy around?"

"Positive Roger. I can't prove it but I'm sure the Slytherin has one."

"Probably Draco Malfoy. He can't catch the snitch so he'll play the snitch."

Both boys laughed as the two teams arrived.

As the two boys continued snickering, they turned around to the sea of confused faces, eager to know what their captains were talking about.

"There's news of a spy in the Slytherin team going around," Cedric started. "We can't confirm nor deny this but Oliver Wood has been alerted."

Cho was the first to talk, "Are you sure it's Slytherin? It could be Gryffindor for all we know."

Rodger was quick with a response, "I doubt it, anyway it would be more typical for Flint to do something like that."

Cho didn't argue.

"Right," Roger said. "Since some of us have tests in that next few weeks, this week can be a quick practice."

Cedric then gave the teams their instructions, "Chasers against Chasers, Seeker against Seeker, and Beaters against Beaters, each in a different part of the field."

As he watched the Beaters try to hit each other off their broomsticks, he kept his eye on one particular bludger that seemed to keep going awry.

As the Ravenclaw Beater hit the bludger exceptionally hard, Ron watched it fly over his head and hit a couple kissing only 100 metres from the pitch.

"Stop everyone!" Cedric yelled as he nodded toward where the Beater had hit the bludger.

His yell was only heard by Ron, who was almost at the scene.

What and who he saw shocked him.

Lying on the ground was Draco Malfoy and holding his hand was ---Harry Potter.

Ron was about to tear off the cloak and scream at Harry when Harry bent down and quickly planted a small kiss on Malfoy's lips.

"Take care of him will you?" he told the Beater who nodded as a sign of compliance.

As she carried Malfoy away, Ron noticed that Harry's face has changed. He looked genuinely worried but his look of worry was also tinged with a smug smile.

As Harry started to walk away, he swore he heard something behind him. He turned around, but nothing was there. Except.......

"Ron, are you there?"

"How could you Harry, and Malfoy to the point?"

As he cast off the cloak, he spat out the word Malfoy's name.

"It's difficult Ron..."

"You mean all those time you disappeared, you were with him?"

"Ron, hear me out,"

"I can't believe it. Why didn't you tell me and Hermione?"

"Ron!" Harry seemed slightly annoyed.

Ron on the other hand was livid.

"All this time," he growled. "All this time, you didn't say a damn thing. You didn't tell us your best friends. Why Harry, why couldn't you tell us? You...you..."

Words failed him. What could Ron say? Harry Potter, his best friend, with Draco Malfoy?

It's not possible.

It can't be possible.

It just wasn't right.

"How long?" he asked, drawing a large breath.

Harry looked guilty

"Six months, on and off,"

"On and off?"

"There was a bit of trouble in the third and fourth month called Pansy."

"Oh. Look, Harry, I got to go. I'm still working."

"Okay Ron. Listen I'll tell Hermione tomorrow. I promise I will."

"Can I be there?"

"I think it better you should."

"Right, see you later."

"I'll explain everything when you get back."

"Right. Bye Harry."

Ron turned away, picking up the cloak and putting it back on.

Ron didn't go back to the pitch. Practice was postponed. Instead Ron made his way to the Gryffindor Tower.

He kept Harry's cloak on as he followed Neville into the Common Room and quietly made his way into the girl's room.

"Hermione, are you here?"

Her voice came from the only bed enclosed in curtains.

"Yes in here. Get in quick!"

He placed the cloak under the bed and scrambled through the curtains.

"You won't believe what I saw less than an hour ago!"

Hermione looked at Ron.

"What?"

Ron repeated the story to her. Her eyes widened as he got to the part about Harry and Malfoy.

"Oh my Ron. I saw it out the library window. Is it true?"

Ron's face fell, "Yes. It is."

Hermione became tearful and Ron did the only thing he could do, he shuffled over and embraced her in his arms.

"It will be okay Hermione. He's going to explain it all tomorrow,"

Hermione sniffed, "Ron, you gotta go, everyone will be in soon."

He planted a lingering kiss on her forehead.

"It will be okay. I promise you."

He searched under her bed and she went to the door to let him out.

He briefly poked his head out to mutter soothing words of calm to her and planted another kiss on her forehead.

Then he left to face his best friend.

As he walked into the room though, Harry wasn't there. Instead there was a note on his bed.

Ron,

I'm really sorry for the hurt I have caused you and Hermione.

You have noticed that I'm not here telling you this, but Malfoy took a bad turn an hour ago.

I promise to tell you all about it in the morning. Transfiguration room 15 minutes early.

I'm sorry,

Harry.

Ron scrunched up the note.

He drew the curtains around him and a small sob escaped his lips. It was now going to be different. The rules had changed and it was time to re-adjust to a different Harry Potter.

This one, he hoped, could offer the one explanation he was looking for, that it was all a terrible mistake and it wouldn't happen again.

As he shed one final tear, Ron Weasley went to sleep.
