- Author's Note:
- This chapter was very enjoyable to write. I, too, am afraid of heights, which restricted my family from touring Europe. Instead we went to Disney World, and on a Disney Cruise, so it's not like our vacation was terrible, even though we had to go on the "it's a small world after all..." ride. I hate that ride. But, I digress. Thanks to my beta, Ur_Howler22, my friend Ellie, my brother's friend Anja, who I really like and he had better not spoil their friendship, and the people who are reading this fic, and the people at FictionAlley. *lets her breath out* Geez, that is a lot of thanks. And people say I am ungrateful...
"So this is the Astronomy Tower, eh?" she asked as her sweater billowed in the breeze. "Brr. It's cold up here!"
Draco walked over to her and took his cloak off. "Here," he said draping it across her shoulders. "It's wool, so you'll be warm."
She fastened the cloak and walked to the railing. She spread her arms and tilted her face up, letting the wind sweep over her. "This is so cool. I feel so free up here. Don't you, Draco?" she asked, looking back at him. He was standing in the middle of the platform gazing at her.
"Not especially. There are other things in life that make me feel free. Being three hundred feet above ground is not one of them." He shuddered involuntarily.
She stepped back, a horrified look on her face. "Th-Three hun-hundred f-f-feet above ground? Get me off of here!" She ran to the staircase, clinging to the banister as if hanging on for dear life. They ran down the stairs. At the bottom Emma clutched a stitch in her side and panted. "Perhaps I should have told you I am mortally afraid of heights," she said in between breaths.
She glanced up at Draco, who was studying her intently. He leaned over, hesitated then closed the distance. She leaned against the wall, kissing him back with all her strength.
"Sorry," he stammered pulling away. "I shouldn't have done that, taking advantage of you in your current exhausted state."
"Believe me Draco, if I didn't want you to kiss me you would have known it! My brother, father, and uncle have taught me innumerable amounts of self-protection." She looked up at him, amused. "Now," she said much more intimately. "Kiss me again."
So there they were, in the Astronomy corridor making out against a wall. Not the most original or classy of places, but then they were swept up in the moment. Even the sound of three pairs of footsteps didn't remove them from their own private world.
"Ten points from Slytherin, Malfoy. No making out in the corridors," said a very amused Ron Weasley. "Now, back away from the young lady. I'm waiting to see who your latest victim is."
Draco and Emma had frozen at the sound of Ron's voice and Draco had slipped his hand into his wand pocket and counted into Emma's ear. "One.... Two...THREE!" They turned, wands trained on the trio. Emma saw who had approached them and put her wand away, reaching over to lower Draco's arm by force.
The look on Weasley's face is priceless... thought Draco.
"What do you think you are doing, Weasley, Granger, and Potter? Interrupting me here when you can see I am otherwise occupied." He smirked and put an arm around Emma's waist who was trying to suppress laughter at seeing the Gryffindors' faces.
"Honestly Harry," she said giggling. "I know you saw me, you told Ron just to spite Draco, don't bother to shake your head at me. Remember that I'm the Potion Master's niece; I know all about potions, and how to use them to your advantage. I even know how to magically transport them into a person's body with them knowing it." She grinned as the trio's eyes widened to the size of Quidditch hoops. "Right now a teaspoon of Veritaserum is coursing through each of your bodies." She held a small, clear vial in her hand rocking it back and forth, grinning maliciously.
"It's illegal to use Veritserum without the approval of the Ministry of Magic!" cried Hermione. "You'll be arrested, tried, convicted, and more besides."
"Ah, but this is my private mixture. This mixture keeps the person who has the serum in them from telling anyone about what is making them so.... truthful. Of course, certain people can recognize the symptoms, but only precious few. Unfortunately neither Professors Dumbledore nor McGonagall can. In fact, the only professor who can is my uncle, and he wouldn't tell. Don't worry; my mixture won't make you tell something embarrassing or something that would put your life in danger, just stupid paltry stuff. Like," she said mimicking, "'I forgot the subject of the potion essay, professor. Was it the uses of Mugwort or Gumworte? Like I said I forgot so I wrote essays on both subjects.' " It was easy to see that the girl she was mimicking was Hermione. "See you all later. And, no I'm not trying to be mean to you, I just feel very angry at the moment because of my family and am taking it out on people who have only been nice to me. Adios, c'mon Draco let's go back to the common room for the rest of the day." She grinned at him and he smirked back at her knowingly.
Author notes: Finally, they got together. I've been waiting FOREVER for them to!!! Oh, wait, I'm the one writing this...Oh well here's a peek at next chapter:
