- Author's Note:
- Hey, this is a bit dark, but it shouldn't be scary or anything. At least it isn't to me, but I've watched about a million war, sci-fi, and fantasy movies. Enjoy, read and review!
July First, 2006
The sun was shinning quite hard for six o'clock in the evening in Lake Braddock, Virginia. Emma had finished her homework and was currently working on brewing a Knowledge-Retaining Potion. As the sun set, she was done.
"There!" she murmured, excited. "Uncle Sev will be very proud of my genius." She chuckled to herself. "Me, a genius, as if." Pouring the potion out of the cauldron and into a pitcher she labeled it so:
Emma's PMS Preventor. Males (namely, Issac) Drink At Your Own Risk. You may develop a tendency to put on makeup after ingesting.
Emma grinned. There was no way Issac would touch it now.
Little did she know, three hours later her family would be torn from her forever.
Emma had gotten out of the shower and dried off, and gotten dressed because she and her family were going to a movie. She'd forgotten something in the bathroom so she went back in. Once in and door locked so no one would interrupt her digging through bathroom stuff to get her new hairbrush Emma heard a noise. The noise sounded like the front door was broken down. She heard voices that led a shiver down her back.
"Where is she? Search the house. Bring everyone you can find into this chamber. Go, now!" shouted a man with a stately British accent.
Emma grabbed her bag, the one she had bewitched to hold more stuff than possible, and dived into the closet, putting a spell on the door so they wouldn't know there was a door there. She heard more voices, ones of her parents and her brother mingling with the intruders. The bathroom door opened.
Oh please God, don't let me die! She prayed silently. Please let them not find me; let them overlook me so that I don't die, please!
Her prayers were answered. They did not find Emma Mirias Snape-James, all they found were a new hairbrush and feminine hygiene products. She heard oaths uttered, and knew that there was little hope for her family.
"Now," said the same man who had spoken before, "you will tell me where she is or you will die. Lucius Malfoy does not tolerate insolence. WHERE IS SHE? You know where she is now, tell me or die!" he hissed.
Emma heard her brother next.
"Stay away from my sister and get your slimy self out of here!" Issac screamed. "And take your friends with you!" She heard him shout a few curses, ones she didn't know he knew, and thought he would never use. He obviously knew he would die and wanted to bring some of them with him.
"No, Issac," she whispered. "Issac! Please, God, no!"
"Avada Kedavra!" shouted the one named Lucius Malfoy. "There now you son is dead. He died in vain, all for a daughter, too. What use are daughters, anyway? They are silly creatures. I had a daughter once, but she died. You, sir, tell me where you daughter is and I'll spare your life. Oh, your shake your head, do you? Well maybe this will convince you! Crucio!"
Emma heard her father's grunts of pain. He never screamed aloud, not once, she would tell her children. Her mother, she could hear, was crying.
"Now do you yield? Oh, still not enough pain, eh? I know your type: Personnel pain is nothing to you, pain to loved ones is everything. I've seen that before. Now I suppose I'll see it again. Crucio!" he yelled again.
Emma heard her mother scream in pain, she heard her father speak for the first time.
"You fiend! Even if I can't kill you, you are going to be in pain by the time I die this night! Crucio!" yelled her father, with immense power behind it.
She heard Malfoy scream and she heard a struggle.
"Well, that was unexpected," said Malfoy slightly ruffled. "But I am afraid it will make your death that much quicker. Avada Kedavra!" he yelled again. "Avada Kedavra!" he yelled for the third time. "Good, they're dead. Stack the bodies and move out. Now!" Steps receded out of the house.
Emma sensed the house was empty. She exited her hiding place, looking around the house as she walked slowly towards the living room. As her eyes set upon the bodies of her parents and brother she fainted.
The next two months went by in a blur. Half the time was asleep, and the other half she was in a state of absolute misery. The next time she was in a perfect state of mind she was at Hogwarts, and we know how that went of course....
Author notes: Well, that's that. It's a bit of a history of Emma and why she's upset at the begining of the story. I know that prefaces usually come before the main part of the story, but I wrote this on an inspiration during a TV program. I'm not putting a teaser in here, since the first chapter is already up. Again, R/R
