Summer Romance with a Twinge of Mischief

Twenty-eight year old Harry Potter apparated onto an isolated beach that was somewhere on the Virgin Islands. He grinned and his emerald green eyes twinkled through his sunglasses. Nothing was going to spoil his summer break. Nothing.

Harry's grin was suddenly wiped away from the bustle and commotion caused from the new arrivals on the beach. He scowled and thought, 'Well, there goes my perfect summer.'

He stood up and turned around, only to find himself gawking the second that he did. On the beach with him was Hermione Granger. Hermione was in nothing but an off-white, string bikini. He also saw a little girl who looked almost like Hermione in appearance, but not quite. He felt something surge through his veins and recognized what it was. Jealousy. He was jealous of the fact that Hermione might actually be married and have a family of her own.

'What brought this on?' he questioned. 'I never cared before. Why should I start caring now?'

The only problem was that he had cared before. He had just been really confused about his growing feelings for her since their third year at Hogwarts. He had spent a lot of time with her that year and now…his feelings for her were increasing by every second she was there.

Nervous as hell, Harry turned away from looking at Hermione and her supposed little girl. Unfortunately for him, she spotted him and waved.

"Harry!"

Harry groaned inwardly. 'I do not need this right now, damn it!'

Hermione and the little girl ran up to him. She and the little girl sat down on the sand next to Harry. Hermione took off her big sun hat to reveal that she also had sunglasses on. She smiled happily at Harry.

"Who would have ever thought that I'd meet you here! You enjoying your time away from teaching?"

Harry rewarded her with a tight smile. "I was, but then something ruined my happiness."

Hermione wasn't dense and knew what he was talking about. She knew Harry long enough to know when he was pissed off at her. Now was most definitely one of those moments.

"Who's the little girl?" he asked, as though he hadn't seen Hermione's hurt expression.

"This is Alexandra," Hermione introduced. "She's my cousin Katy's daughter."

Harry was shell-shocked and didn't reply for a moment. He turned to the little girl and put out his hand.

"I'm very pleased to meet you, Alexandra."

Alexandra beamed at him. "Pleased to meet you too, Mr. Potter. Auntie Hermione's told me so much about you!"

Harry's good mood suddenly returned as he saw Hermione's face go pink. "Oh, really? What kind of things has she said about me?"

Alexandra grinned. "Oh, you know…things."

Harry grinned at Hermione's beet red face. Hermione turned to Alexandra and said, "Alex, why don't you go build a sand castle or something? I need to talk to Harry alone."

"Okay, Auntie!" Alex then sped off towards a large pile of sand.

Hermione turned her gaze back to Harry. Harry couldn't stop the grin on his face. It just grew wider and wider.

"My, my, Hermione. I didn't know you were that kind of girl," he teased.

Hermione's face was still red, as she said through gritted teeth, "Stop being a git for just a moment, Harry, and listen to what I have to say!"

Harry's fell silent, but he still grinned at her. Hermione sighed and said, "I guess you being quiet will have to be enough. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that you figured out what Alex meant when she said that I've told her a lot about you."

Harry feigned innocence. "No, I'm sorry. What did she mean?"

Hermione saw right through his act. "Harry James Potter! Stop being an idiot and listen to me seriously!"

"Nope. No can do, Mione," he said with a teasing grin.

"Why the hell not!"

"Because it's summer and I don't feel like being lectured today," he replied, lazily. He lied down on his outdoor lounge chair and smirked. Hermione looked ready to kill him.

"Stop smirking and being so damn smug! I hate it when you do that!"

"Do what?" he asked, still smirking.

"When you act like Ron!"

Harry chuckled in amusement. "I'll take that as a compliment. I've always wanted his sense of humor."

"Well, it seems as though you've acquired it quite well," Hermione commented dryly.

Harry grinned. "Thank you."

Hermione threw her hands up in the air with complete exasperation. "Argh! I give up trying to talk and reason with you!"

"Good. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to enjoy the day and hopefully the rest of the summer without any distractions," he said as he continued to stare lazily at the noontime sun.

"I hate you," Hermione told him, her tone acidic.

"No you don't," he said, plainly.

"And how would you know? You're not psychic, so don't even say that you are!"

"I've known you for a long time, Mione. I know all of your little quirks and moods. This would happen to be one of the ones I'm very familiar with. You used this one with Ron almost during our entire fifth year at Hogwarts," Harry pointed out to her.

Her interest peaked, Hermione asked, "Why were you observing?"

"Because you're my friend and I liked you."

Hermione's face colored. "You did?"

Harry nodded. "I think it started our third year, but I wasn't sure until our fifth year."

Hermione blushed. "Umm…do you still harbor those feelings for me?"

At Harry's nod, Hermione squeaked. "Why didn't you tell me this before, you git!"

"Because you were smitten with Ron at the time. What could I do? I wasn't about to ruin your relationship with him because of my crush on you," Harry explained.

"I didn't just like him, you know," Hermione said, shyly.

Harry raised an eyebrow and then smirked. "Ah, yes. Your infamous infatuation with 'Vicky'. How could I forget?"

Hermione narrowed her eyes at him. "Not Victor, you idiot. I meant you!"

Harry suppressed a smile. "Oh, really? I never knew…that is until your lovely niece blurted out that very interesting information."

"I'm never having any children," Hermione muttered under her breath. "I just may kill them."

Harry, having heard her, laughed out loud. Hermione glared at him. "Oh, yes, Harry. Laugh at me all you want. Not like I care."

Harry stopped laughing and caught his breath. "I'm so sorry, Mione, but you can be so hysterical at times!"

"I love you."

Harry shut up immediately. He took off his sunglasses and looked at Hermione with wide eyes. "You what?" he whispered, trying to make sure that he wasn't becoming delusional.

"You heard me, you git!" she snapped, but she was grinning.

Harry smiled at her. "I guess this means I don't have to ask to kiss you then, does it?"

"You most certainly still have to ask, Potter," Hermione sniffed with mock indignation.

"Mione?"

She looked at him and took off her sunglasses, as well. "Hmm?"

Harry gave her a half smile. "Love you too, Herm."

Hermione grinned. "Idiot." She then pressed her lips to his.

They both felt it. That electrical jolt of completion. Their chaste kiss became something more passionate. Harry wrapped his arms completely around Hermione's back. He was fiddling with the string of her top. Hermione pressed herself completely up to Harry and was rewarded with a soft moan from Harry. Something, however, pulled them out of their passionate embrace.

Alexandra, being the clever little witch that she was, made a bucket full of water apparate over Harry and Hermione's heads, who were at the moment, completely oblivious to anything else, with the exception of their partner.

Alexandra grinned cheekily as she held her wand in her hand and with a flick of her wrist, down came all of the water from the bucket and down onto Harry and Hermione's heads.

They both broke away the moment they were drenched. Hermione stood up and screamed, "Alexandra Marie Beaumont, come here right now!!"

When Alexandra didn't show, Hermione, along with Harry scourged the beach for any sign of the little rascal. Once they had found her, it was almost evening.

Correction, Hermione had found her. She was under an artificial palm tree near the hotel that was close by to the beach. Hermione sighed and picked up her niece and carried her back to where Harry was waiting for them.

"Looks like we had a full day," Harry commented, pointing to Alexandra in Hermione's arms.

Hermione rolled her eyes. "Don't remind me. The next time I come here, she's not coming with me."

Harry grinned. "So, you'll be alone next time?"

"Not necessarily," she said as she watched Harry gather up his things and then hers.

Harry frowned. "What does that mean? Am I not enough company?"

Hermione smirked. "Not really," she replied, jokingly. "I may just bring Crookshanks next time!"

Harry winced. "Don't even joke about that!"

Hermione laughed and Harry shook his head as the three of them headed towards the hotel.
