The Unforgivable Curses
Kathryn Volcanov and LoneWolf

- Many history books speak of Slytherin House and its members as though all they are is evil. Now it is time to look past that prejudice, to uncover the true story behind the legend… and to follow within the footsteps of three generations. One of them existed at the very beginning; another came into being at a turning point in the history of its House, while yet another lived on in the Dark Ages. Three generations with three stories to be told, revealing exactly that which history did not tell… [Stand-alone prequel to the Slytherin Forever! Series.]

The Unforgivable Curses
Prologue: Guardians of the Lost

"My dreams are left to live through you..."

"Once, the world had a future. Once, nobody realized what would be the consequences of their actions. Once, Slytherin House was still united with the other three Houses of Hogwarts. Once, Slytherin House didn't have a bad name. Once... Slytherin House fell down into shadows."
The man stopped speaking and looked at the people who had been listening to him. Not all of the people that this tale concerned were there. But people he had come to know well, both through his tale and through his contact with the Slytherins for the past decades, surrounded him. He caught glimpses of the fair hair of Narcissa Black, now named Malfoy, and of Gudrun Halonen who had just seated herself. He also saw, there in the back of the room, Loki Romanov along with some fellow Death Eaters. And he also saw, of course, Severus Snape together with Althea Sinistra walk towards their seats at the far left side of the room, near the bookshelves. There were also, even, some people there who had been Tom Marvolo Riddle's housemates a while ago.
The man glanced at the paintings upon the walls. So many Slytherins, both good and evil, were waving at the people inside of the room. Some, such as Ren Montague, had a sad and faraway look in their eyes. Others, such as Taigan Slytherin, were smiling at everyone with an enthusiastic sparkle in their eyes. Gods, how many lives had been destroyed by this ruthless denomination of the Vayaen? How many Slytherins had died for their House and for their beloved leaders?
It sickened the man, deep down inside of his heart, to know that he was a member of this denomination. Anger boiled up inside of him and the rage that had been hidden inside of him for so long entered his mind again, more powerful than ever before. He hated the fact that nearly all members of The Zeppo looked at him with hatred visible in their eyes. He had been born into this denomination. He was nameless, and others had never given him any name but "Sword Bearer".
He bore a sword all right. It could be called truth, he guessed, because only he knew the full story about the life and death of every single member of The Zeppo. The entire Slytherin organisation had been hunted down by his denomination, fear had grown inside of their minds...
A cold hand landed upon his arm. Its slender fingers tightened around his arm just a little bit, so that the long nails didn't dig into the flesh entirely. He glanced sideways and gave the woman a reassuring nod. Her dark hair fell into her eyes at that moment, and she brushed it away with an annoyed look. Her icy green eyes glanced around the room, aware of the movements their guests were making, and her lips curled into one of her famous half-smiles as she caught him staring at her. In the end... she was just like him.
They had both been born out of an experiment, as it were. They had both grown up without parents and were a part of the Slytherin organisation and of the denomination that had made Slytherin House fall. All they had ever been, were, and would be, was controlled by those who had wanted to create beings that were superior to humans but looked like them all the same.
It was Adam and Eve all over again, some would say, the woman born out of the man. And yet the Sword Bearer didn't feel like he was some kind of miracle that existed alongside another miracle called the "Pillar of Souls".
Ren Montague had first called the woman the Pillar of Souls, he reflected. The mortal Slytherin had taken good care of the woman... just like Taigan Slytherin had cared for the Sword Bearer in those times.
Souls had spoken through the woman that was seated beside him for so many times already. They had spoken of neverending hatred, they had talked about everlasting suffering, and eventually they also named that the man and the woman would both commit treachery of the highest kind.
And traitors they had indeed become, the Sword Bearer and the Pillar of Souls, named the Guardians of the Lost by some, and traitors they would be until the end of days. It was because of him that Jored Slytherin and Jessica Gryffindor had found their peace in the flames of the fires that had consumed them. And it was because of her that Josselin Slytherin died so many years ago without friends or family by his side. It was because of them both that Slytherin House had been ruined.
Gods, how they hated themselves for it now. All that was left for them to do now was to speak about everything that had happened to the living members of the organisation called The Zeppo. They would be forced to admit that they had sold out family members of those seated here to the ruthless denomination called the Vayaen. They would pledge guilt before everyone now, years after the rise of Lord Voldemort. And in those times where all that can stop the world from falling down is a young Slytherin called Ginny, they would die. The immortals would lay themselves down to sleep someday soon.
But now it was time to begin their tale. And with the slightest of nods from his companion, the Pillar of Souls, the Sword Bearer began to speak about the story of the Guardians of the Lost and the Heirs of Slytherin...

Read? Review!
Author notes: We always wanted to work together on a story. In the beginning, that just happened with edits and general advice on Original Characters, but now we want to do more than just that... We want to tell you a tale about the true history of Slytherin House, about all that should have stayed secret but was told within the pureblood wizarding families anyway, about everything that happened so many years ago within the four Houses, about the real feud that existed between the Founders, about the rise and fall of so many Dark Wizards and Witches, about a terrible denomination searching for the rule over the entire wizarding world, about the deaths of the Heirs of Slytherin, and of course about the Dark Ages.
You will follow known and unknown characters within this story, characters that briefly appear within the Slytherin Forever! Series but never had the chance to tell the tale of their lives… so that you might experience just how important a House truly is. A House is like family, House members become more than just friends within the seven years you spend at Hogwarts, and most of all… you don’t let your House fall down and hear the darkest of tales being told about it.
