Cars, strange people and dead ends

Chapter One

Hermione's brilliant idea

The summer holiday had just begun. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger were visiting their friend, Ron Weasley for a couple of weeks. Well, Harry was actually staying at the Weasley's for the whole summer. Somehow, his aunt and uncle had the picture that Harry was taking a dragon back home with him this summer. Because of this, Harry had no place to stay and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley thought it was best for Harry to be with them.

It was seven o'clock in the morning, and Harry and Ron were still snoring away in their sleep.

"Harry! Ron! You two, wake up right now!"

Ron's eyes slowly opened, and he gave out a little growl. Hermione was standing at the end of his bed all dressed, with her arms crossed.

"What do you want?" mumbled Ron.

"I got an idea! It's brilliant! You two just have to wake up so that I can tell it to you," said Hermione excitedly.

Ron looked at the clock and gave out another growl. He gave Hermione a cranky look, and said, "Hermione, I know you can't always help being as cheerful as a circus monkey but if you haven't happened to notice, it's seven o'clock. Go away! You can tell us your idea later. It can't be this important."

Hermione's face went slightly red in anger. She tried to take no notice of what Ron had just said. Instead, she shook his leg, and continued, "It can be this important! You'll love it! Ron, don't spoil this for me."

"Look," said Ron, "Harry isn't awake, either. I don't see why you're not bothering him..."

Hermione looked at Harry and noticed him still curled up in his covers, sleeping away. She walked over to him and began shaking him, as if he was refusing to give Hermione her underwear back.

"Harry, wake up!" shouted Hermione.

Harry opened his eyes, and the minute he noticed Hermione, he grabbed his covers tightly trying to hide every bare bit of his body.

"Hermione, what're you doing? I'm not dressed!"

"Oh, Harry, I've seen you in your boxers before," said Hermione in a moan.

"What? When? Where?" Harry asked, panicking.

"You were walking in your sleep, Harry. Anyway, I didn't come here to see you in your boxers."

Harry gave a deep sigh of relief. Then after a few seconds, Harry thought in a different way, "Hermione, don't you want to see me in my boxers?"

"HARRY, damn it! I'm not interested in seeing you in your boxers, OK? I don't care about that."

Harry shook his head, thinking what an idiot he was. He thought he must still be half-asleep.

"Look, I just got a brilliant idea, and it involves you and Ron. I really have to say it to you, it's so wonderful," said Hermione, still sounding as excited as before.

"Hermione, can't it wait? Couldn't you write it down or something?" asked Harry.

Now it was Hermione's turn to shake her head. She was beginning to get impatient. This was her best idea she had ever had, and now no one wanted to listen to her.

"Hermione, knock it off," said Ron. He had woken up again, feeling even crankier. Mornings were never Ron's favourite part of the day.

"I will not knock it off! Can't you two just listen to me?" shouted Hermione so loud that it scared both Harry and Ron.

"Yes, we'll listen to you, of course," said Harry and Ron in one voice. They both sat up and tried to look as interested as possible. Hermione's shout had been so affective, she thought she ought to remember that for the next time something like this happens. Hermione gave a pleased look. She sat down on Ron's chair.

"None of us have any plans for this summer, except to hang around at the Weasleys. I was thinking - that we might go on a road trip." Hermione's face still looked extremely excited.

Harry looked like it was the end of the world. He wasn't particularly a big fan on road trips.

Ron looked absolutely bewildered, "A what?"
