Chapter One

***

Everything was flashing through his head as he ran. He didn't know where he was running, just why. He wanted revenge; he needed to torment the traitor who was supposed to be one of his best friends, his brother.

He should've seen it. All he had to do was to look at his Animagus form- a rat. Peter Pettigrew had always found friends who were bigger, better, and stronger than he was, all for protection. It used to be Remus, James, and himself, Sirius. Now it was Voldemort.

He stopped in his tracks and pulled out his wand, muttering "Point Me." The wand pointed north, and Sirius headed in that direction. He had no idea where Peter was; he only knew that the traitor wasn't where he was supposed to be: his hiding place. He was probably running as Sirius was, which just made him all the harder to find. Sirius tried to think of where the Order of the Phoenix had thought Voldemort's current whereabouts were; northern England seemed right, so that would surely be where Peter was heading.

The night flew by him as the scenery did. It was still dark outside, although he had no idea how long that would last. For all he knew, it was four in the morning, and some Muggles may yet have been waking up to begin the day's work. He swept past various roads and houses, only stopping when he heard feet behind him.

"Sirius, how could you?" he heard an all-too familiar voice shout to him.

He turned around and saw Pettigrew, who appeared to be waiting for him. "What are you talking about, you son of a bitch?" he snarled back. He just wanted to end the talking; he wanted his fingers around Pettigrew's neck...

The two were making circles around the other as Muggles curiously came out of their homes, hearing the commotion. Sirius could hear sirens of the Muggle policemen somewhere in the background.

"Lily and James, Sirius! How could you?" Peter repeated even louder for the Muggles to hear.

"Why you..." he approached Pettigrew menacingly, finally having him cornered, ready to grasp his wand at the first sign of a threat.

Then he saw Peter's wand behind his back. The smaller wizard murmured something he couldn't make out. Suddenly, a loud bang echoed in his ears. He turned around, hearing Muggles screaming, and saw a huge crater in the middle of the street. He quickly turned back to Peter and raised his wand, ready to mercilessly perform the Unforgivable that had killed Lily and James. But he wasn't quick enough. Peter winced as he cut off his own finger and transformed into a rat.

Pettigrew left behind a heap of bloodstained robes and an index finger that Sirius couldn't help but stare at. Then he began laughing. It wasn't his usual bark that came out of his mouth, it was foreign, something he had never heard before. Even when the Magical Law Enforcement Squad came, and carted him off, he couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Let Peter Pettigrew roam about in a sewer. He'd find him eventually.
