He watches her. It's always the same, watching her and knowing she's unattainable. It was the same with his father and her mother. Malfoy watched her, but Granger never knew. No one knew, just Pansy, his mother.

Why do things have to be so difficult all the time? He pushes a stray lock of platinum blonde hair back over his head, grimacing at the memories of an age old conversation between his mother and him. Pansy always told him to look his best at all times, he was a Pureblood heir after all; his father said to just be himself and things would turn out alright in the end.

She's just sitting there, across the hall at the Gryffindor table, laughing and talking with her friends and cousins. The Weasley twins, her older sisters, swing their ginger hair over their shoulders simultaneously in an alluring fashion, but they can't equal her beauty. It's something subtle, intangible, a stray scent on the wind that catches your interest, but leaves just as its come.

The Sorting is over now; time for another school year, his sixth one now, and the pain in his father's letter that comes a week later because its Pansy's birthday, but she's not there to celebrate. His mother died years back, when Lucius led a last Death Eater mob to the Malfoy Manor. It pained him still, but his father was torn between his closest friend and the chance for his most unattainable love.

But that's the thing, isn't it? Hermione went off and married Ron; and Draco was left with Pansy. The chain of events and love triangles gets passed from generation to generation, and he hopes he'll be able to finally break that chain. He didn't want to go through the same heartache his father had.

The Feast's over, too, and the four Houses are rising, getting ready to get to sleep and their own dormitories once more. He stands, still watching her, ignoring his friends' chatter around him. A small hand slips into the crook of his arm, and one voice calls him from his watching.

"Aiden, what's got you so nettled? Let's get back to the Common Room." A light in Emelda Zabini's dark eyes tell him she's got more than just conversation planned, and he doesn't want that. So he shakes his head.

"Nah, I'm gonna go for a walk...alone," he adds, knowing she'd only try to come with him. He wanders off down a corridor, following the throng, and all the while trying to get another look at her, the ephemeral beauty that captured his heart.

The passageways emptied slowly, and he was left alone, hands thrust deep into his pockets and storm grey eyes troubled. Then, up ahead, a figure emerged from the shadows walking towards him.

I can't look away,

Not now, not now when you've come so close to me.

I can't tear my eyes away from the beauty that I see,

Like no other, undercover,

It somehow feels like your vision's stalking me.

He wondered what she was doing out of her dorm, but he was just glad she was. He wanted to see her, be with her, so bad it hurt sometimes. It was a pain in his heart, watching her and knowing he could never have her.

She continued walking closer, silky stick straight brown and red and gold hair swaying with her step. Her chocolate and molasses eyes looked up when she walked into him in surprise. He thought she was the most beautiful thing on this earth at that moment, and every moment since he'd fallen in love with her. He couldn't help himself and he reached out one pale hand to finger her amazing beautiful hair. Her surprise only grew, it seemed, and she spoke. To him, it was as if an angel was telling him his destiny.

"Aiden! I - I hadn't seen you," she got out, eyes wide as his fingers moved from her hair to her cheek. "Oh..." she trailed off, leaving unnecessary words unspoken.

One question, three little words,

Too much to ask, too much to speak.

Can't break the silence that's protecting me.

Her skin was soft to the touch, unbelievably soft. A little breath escaped him as her hand unwittingly reached out to press itself to his chest. They were so close, so close to the unattainable.

"Why?" the strangled whisper came out, for he had no breath let for talking. Their breathing came faster, harder, as they moved closer together. It was as if destiny was pushing them, guiding them.

"No words...just us," she returned the whisper, though the hall was empty. She moved closer, wrapping her arms around his neck as he moved his, one around her waist and the other cupping her cheek.

Things are always so different,

Always the same.

Feels like we were meant to be together

One part become whole again

As I stand here with you in my arms.

He leaned down and brushed his lips against hers. He was surprised to feel her return the kiss, never thinking she could feel the same as he did. It was electric and shocking, but it felt so right that he didn't want it to end, but it had to because they need to breath.

Panting slightly, his stormy gaze met her chocolate one. "I -" he decided to say it, the truth. "I love you, Kaia." She smiled up at him, looking through her lashes.

Almost breathlessly, she responded. "I love you, too, Aiden." He was so relived, her wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. She returned the embrace whole-heartedly.

Pressing his face into her wonderful, silky, beautiful scented hair, Aiden murmured, "I've missed you, love."
