Chapter 4
Back in the castle, nobody was particularly bothered about the mysterious disappearance of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Neville, Dean and Seamus, were far too used their fellow Gryffindors embarking on exciting- but dangerous -adventures, and if anything, they only looked forward to when the three returned so that their house would be awarded another 200 points for something noble and brave that Harry had done.
Of course.. where was Hermione when Neville had a specific question about the eating habits of his cactus, Mimbulus Mimbletonia? And where was Harry when Dean and Seamus were having an extremely in-depth bet about a certain Quidditch move, and only Harry could supply them with the truth??
And where was Ron when.. well.. where was Ron?
The three boys gathered in the common room, and a had a intimate conversation about how they should get Harry and Hermione back!
"And Ron!!" Neville piped up.
"Oh yes, Ron, of course. Forgot." Dean replied hastily.
"I have an idea!" Seamus cried suddenly. ("What, what?" Came the eager replies, faces shining with eager-beaverness.)
"We've got to go and see Professor Dumbledore!"
They all cheered at once, for Seamus had once again saved them all from an extremely bitter end.
So with wine- I mean joy- in their hearts, and excitement all around, they skipped merrily off to the Headmasters office.
As they arrived ('Bubble O' Bill' was the password), they had forgotten one thing. It was three am in the morning, and every boy and girl should know that headmasters should not be messed with at this time in the morning.
Albus Dumbledore, however, was one of a kind.
The three boys, with picturesque looks of concern and anxiety on their faces entered the study (without knocking). (How rude!) They were all panting slightly, and as they looked around expecting to see Dumbledore sitting at a desk writing notes, they instead, to their surprise, found Albus Dumbledore doing his nightly sit-ups on his yellow and green Persian rug.
"P-professor Dumbledore?" The headmaster was up with a bang.
He looked at the boys kindly, and the boys admired his calm tranquillity, as he gently told them to tell him the whole story, starting from the beginning.
Neville began, and he did sing, like he'd never sung before... it was beautiful!
Neville began, an upbeat kind of tune that Seamus and Dean instantly started grooving to;
"My name is Ne-ville, can I be awake??
Is it a dream, is it a fa-aa-ake?
Many strange things, happened to me,
So much pain I had to see-ee-ee.
Where's Harry gone, is he out of his mi-ind,
He's in danger, but it's him, I want to fi-ind,
Can I trust my heart, are we kindred souls?
My feelings are so strong.. that can't be so wrooonngg!"
Dumbledore immediately took up the queue, and sang his reply in a sonorous trill.
"Look to the stars, look to the stars, look to the staaaaaars...
When you're full of doubt, full of fear, look to the staaaaaars.."
And they finished, singing one more chorus of "Look to the stars" and finished in perfect harmony.
Dean and Seamus clapped enthusiastically from the sidelines.
"So boys," Dumbledore trilled. "Let's sleep on it. Then we'll take action in the morning. In fact, I feel I have a good idea where they are already." The boys gasped in awe.
"Now chop-chop off to beddy-bies," Dumbledore cooed, and they all chopped off faster than blinking.
***
Good morning, good morning, the weather I'm not scorning!"
Neville, Seamus and Dean awoke to Dumbledore's merry morning song with yawnings and stretchings.
"Mornin' Dumblydoor." They chorused sleepily.
"Well now, boys, I do not wish to alarm you, however I'm afraid we shall have to wait until tonight to search for your fellow Gryffindors."
"Whhhyyyyy??" whined Seamus.
"Shame, Shame-us," said Dean, frustrated because Dumbledore had disappointed him completely. Dumbledore surveyed him gently through his half moon spectacles, and a small smile appeared on his ancient face.
"Like a said, boys, we must look to the stars..." he said mysteriously.
"So does that mean--"
"Are we divining for them--"
"Do we have to find the answer, the reason why?"
"Yes." Dumbledore replied simply, leaving all three rather confused as to which question he was actually replying to.
But with that, Dumbledore bade them dress and eat and told them to get ready for their daily lessons, thus striding magnificently from the room.
"What do you think that meant?" Neville squeaked fearfully.
Dean and Seamus looked glumly back at him. Then Dean brightened.
"I think he's going to take us to the starts on the new Earthbolt!"
"Earthbolt?" Neville inquired
"Yes, Nev, it's a notch up on the old Firebolt. I expect there'll be a Waterbolt and a Windbolt out soon too!" Dean said excitedly.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Seamus cried suddenly, a shining light appearing in his turquoise eyes that Dean and Neville only rarely saw, and that was only when he spoke of his animal-print bedspread at home.
"I say we sneak into Dumbledore's office, sneak off with his Earthbolt, and sneak off on it to rescue Harry and Hermione ourselves!!"
"And Ron," piped up Neville.
"Oh.. er.. of course, Nev. Goes without saying.
Suddenly, they heard a huge "BANG!!!"
The door of the Gryffindor boys dormitory flew open, and in came Draco Malfoy looking very angry indeed and rather disheveled.
"So Potty." He drawled. "Betcha think you're really cool, tipping that suit of armour onto us three days ago? We've been pinned there for the last three days, unable to get up, and you're going to pay!"
Malfoy said all this in a frighteningly threatening voice, and as he said spoke he moved slowly over to Harry's bed, so that he stood over the lumpy blankets.
"Quaking under there Potter? I would be!" Malfoy lunged, stripping back Harry's bedclothes, and pointing his wand where he imagined Harry's face might be. But Harry's bed was empty. Silence. Malfoy looked stunned, and turned to gape at the others in the room, as if looking for some explanation. "But- but.." He stammered.
Crabbe and Goyle broke into a sudden rap from where they stood at the door.
"Oh my lord, he's in the shit,
Lookin' as though he mighta been hit,
How the f*** (beep) did Harry know,
We swear we kept it on the low,
And as we hear Draco Malfoy say,
Harry James Potter one day will pay--"
Here Goyle began to beatbox and the two took out their Ray Bans sunglasses and smoothly put them on, nodding and moving to the beat.
"WILL YOU TWO SHUT UP!!" Malfoy exploded suddenly looking furious.
Crabbe and Goyle silenced at once and looked suddenly very sheepish, Goyle dropping his bat, which he had been holding to his mouth as a pretend microphone.
Malfoy stormed past them and out of the room, indicating with a quick movement of his finger that they were to follow him. Crabbe and Goyle clumsily removed their Ray Bans, which took them about ten minutes. Malfoy stood angrily outside, clicking his tongue impatiently so that they had no choice but to follow him out, knowing that this act of freedom would not go unpunished.
