Author's Note:
As I said in the summary, I am aware that this story probably would have been more appropriate to come out after OotP.

Sometimes a hero isn't always born knowing the truth of what is right and what is wrong. They learn from their family's ideas and accept them as truth. They learn to be cruel and sadistic, not because of what is inside, but because it is a way of life. They learn to live that way until something drastic happens to show them that they are wrong.

Sometimes blood ties only go so far. Most of the time, people follow their family through thick and thin no matter what. Most of the time, no startling revelations are made. Most of the time, the Hat doesn't sort a boy to Gryffindor when the rest of his family is in Slytherin.

Sometimes it isn't a child's peers who make the startling revelation. A child will make whatever friends he can in a hostile environment, and they will show him where he went wrong. A child can quickly learn that old friends are now enemies. A child usually never learns this from a talking hat.

Sometimes families are not tolerant to a teenager's rebellion. Most families sigh and assume the adolescent will tire of it. Most families let the rebellion run its course. Most families don't tell a rebelling teenager to leave and never come back.

Sometimes good friends are not as true as they seem. The purpose of a friend is having someone to count on when nothing else is going right. The purpose of a friend is to keep a secret only if keeping the secret keeps their friend safe. The purpose of a friend is not to tell a secret that is necessary to keep.

Sometimes the legal system is not infallible. People who should be convicted usually are guilty. People who shouldn't be jailed usually aren't. People who shouldn't be put into a prison that leaves them mad are very rarely innocent.

Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men don't go wrong. Usually, no matter how much planning people put into things, something doesn't work. Usually, someone ends up loosing. Usually, the plan of the man against the mouse isn't the one that is faulty.

Sometimes people aren't filled with nostalgia to see their childhood home. The majority of people who visit the house they grew up in are excited. The majority of people will then tell stories to uninterested friends of what happened when Aunt Polaris accidentally set the rug on fire with her wand when she tripped over the umbrella stand. The majority of people aren't imprisoned in a house that they hate.

Sometimes even the most cheerful person can't stay happy for longer than five minutes. Cheerful people can drive other people mad with their continued optimism. Cheerful people can see the best in everything. Cheerful people, however, usually aren't imprisoned in a house they hate, surrounded by continuous nightmares.

Sometimes heroes don't go down fighting. Every tale that ends with the good guy's demise has the terrific last stand. Every tale that ends sad has some redeeming quality to it. Every tale did not seem to include his.

Some times heroes don't go down fighting.

Sometimes they go down laughing with relief.

Author notes: Tell me if I'm an idiot for thinking I can write. And then please tell me why.
