Harry scrambled with his keys as he pushed it into the lock of his house. As he opened the door, he quickly walked inside and said, "Hey, rough day, I'll be in the bedroom," and walked passed Ginny, only glancing at her. He expected her to just mumble incoherently and wave her hand in recognition. Instead, what he found was an annoyed redhead sitting in the dining room with a cold expression on her face.
"Gin? Are you alright?" Ginny said nothing, only waving her wand and a small packet flew towards Harry, who caught it quickly with his Seeker reflexes. He gave Ginny a questioning expression as he slowly opened it and flipped through the pictures. Harry's calm expression soon changed to discomfort. He looked at Ginny, completely baffled, he was mouthing wordlessly. But before he could say anything, Ginny spoke.
"Who is she?" Ginny asked, in a cold, quiet voice.
"She's-she's no one, Gin." But Ginny gazed at him bitterly.
"Try again, Harry." Her tone was concise, she sounded like a first grade teacher egging on one of her students, but her tone was dripping with sarcasm. Harry's face searched for an answer, but he eventually gave up.
"She's a woman I know," he said, defeated. Ginny's eyes widened with surprise.
"Really?" she asked in mockery. "I would have never guessed!" Harry sighed.
"She's my secretary, her name is Candy and she's nineteen." Nineteen. Nine-Bloody-Teen.
"O, that's just great, it's the whole boss-screws-the-secretary scenario, is it? She's bloody nineteen! You're going to leave me, and Gabby, and Julian to shack up with some lovesick bimbo? And Candy? What is she, some kind of porn star?" Ginny spat, she was practically shaking with a fusion of fury, hurt, and bewilderment.
"It's short for Candida," mumbled Harry, his jade eyes flickering unnervingly. Ginny started laughing uncontrollably. She slowly stopped for air, as she faced her husband again.
"That's just perfect, my husband is leaving me for some cheap floozy who is named after a vaginal infection! But it's suits her, she sure irritates the hell out of me!" she said hysterically, close to tears now.
"She is not some cheap floozy, she's smart, and intuitive, and-and-and...I love her!" Harry yelled. Ginny stared at him, the tears slowly brimming her eyes and ready to fall.
"How long have you been seeing her?" she asked, trying desperately not to cry.
"About nine months," Harry replied softly. Nine months. Nine whole bloody months. Ginny let a solemn tear fall from each eye. She abruptly got up and walked to the living room, bringing her coffee with her and sitting on the sofa. She slowly drank the rest of it and hurled the mug against the wall. It shattered raucously. Harry, leaning against the frame of the dining room, saw this and walked to Ginny. He sat on the ground next to her and leaned his head against her leg.
"Look, Gin, she's young, she's fragile, she needs me. And I need her. I know you're strong, but she would just break if I left her." She thought they would never divorce, that she held the two ace cards, Gabrielle and Julian. Ginny was convinced this wouldn't last long.
"So here I am, trying to keep this together, keeping up my end of the bargain. And the kids adore you, their father." Which was true, Harry was their father, and they loved him, despite the things he'd done. "And some teenager struts around in a short skirt, and you decide to walk." Harry sighed and looked downward.
"I love Candy, and she loves me. We can't fight it. And... Gabby and Juju can see us regularly." Ginny looked heavenward, trying to stop any more tears.
"Do you love me?" Ginny looked at Harry.
"What do you mean?" Ginny asked quizzically.
"Do you love me, that's all."
"Yes, of course, you're the father of my children."
"That's not enough, Gin," he said. "Let's pretend there was no Gabby or Juju. Just take them out of the picture completely. Now, do you still love me?" Ginny thought for a while. In the beginning, they had been the golden marriage. It was all over the Daily Prophet, "Harry's Perfect Mrs. Potter." Her mother was flooded with joy, Ron was a happy, proud brother, and they got many "I knew you two would be perfect together's!"
Ginny knew he didn't love her and knew it be hard for Harry to come back after he found the perfect replacement with firm thighs. And if she made him stay, he would be irritable, spiteful, and hateful. But she still loved him, hands down. " Yes, Harry, I still love you, but not in the obsessive way you'd like, obviously." She knew anything he said or did wouldn't make him stay. It was "hasta-la-bye-bye-wife-and-kids" in exchange for bigger boobs and a face-lift. She had no idea how to tell Gabrielle and Julian. They would be confounded, now how much they showed that they hated their old man. They adored him. Ginny didn't blame them, Harry bought them their first brooms, patiently taught them how to play, surprised them here and there, played silly games with them, and adored them, too.
"I'm sorry, Gin." He stood up and was about to hug her, but she jerked away.
"Don't, just leave now," she said coldly.
"If that's what you want, babe." Ginny snorted bitterly at his apparent try to make it look like she wanted him out, the cowardly bastard.
"Is there any other choice?" But Harry already left. Gabrielle brushed by him and came into the house, holding Julian's hand. It was summer, so no school yet. They had greeted their father but he said nothing back. They looked at Ginny, confused.
As soon as the door closed Gabrielle spoke. "Where's Harry going?" she asked, Ginny shrugged. "When is he coming back?" Tears were already running down Ginny's face.
"What's the matter, mum?" Julian asked.
"Nothing, mum just watched a sad movie. Dad is at an important meeting right now," Ginny said, as a reply to Gabby's question. She didn't want to face the head-on collision now. As soon as Gabby and Julian were in their rooms, Ginny went to hers and soundproofed it with a charm. She walked to her fireplace and threw Floo Powder in it. She muttered something and Pansy's face appeared.
"Pans," said Ginny, shakily, still crying. "Harry left us."
