Fools

GinnyWolf

Story Summary:
I made a mistake with the "Looks Like Dreams Come True" keywords. I accidentally put in Draco instead of Harry, and this fic is to make up for it. Another song fic, a Ginny/Draco as promised.

To Vicki, because this song pertains to both of us.

Fools

Tell me lies, slap me on the face, just...

Improvise. Do something really clever,

That'll make me hate your name forever.

You might swear, you'd never touch a lady,

Well, let me say. You're not too far from maybe.

Every day you find new ways to hurt me.

"You great prat, get out of my way!" Ginny Weasley screeched, her fiery red hair shining in the golden morning light. Draco Malfoy smirked. He loved getting to people. It was oddly satisfying, especially if it was a stupid Weasley.

"Oh, do I have to?" he whined mockingly, his silver eyes glittering. Ginny fumed in anger, her normally friendly face contorted in hatred. She was late for class, and this stupid git was blocking her way. She lunged at him, her hand colliding with the side of his face.

Draco stumbled back, rubbing his cheek. A red handprint was glowing there. Ginny gasped. She hadn't meant to hit him quite that hard. She watched his eyes go from surprised to angry to slightly hurt. His face, usually drawn up in a sneer, was softening. He looked like a lost child who had just been chased away from food when he was starving.

"Oh, dear. Malfoy, I'm sorry..." Ginny stuttered, her words tumbling out of her mouth. What was this? Ginny, apologizing to Draco Malfoy? The Draco Malfoy who had always teased her, tripped her in the hallways, followed her around mocking the way she blushed whenever she tried to talk to Harry? But that was last year, wasn't it? Harry had a girlfriend, Hermione. (No surprise there.)

"No, no. It's alright," Draco said, brushing her away.

But I can't help it if I'm just a fool,

Always having my heart set on you.

Till the time you start changing the rules,

I'll keep chasing the soles of your shoes.

Ahh, fool.

Draco's eyes had brightened to light gray, shining and carrying a new glint. Ginny saw one of them twitch nervously. His cheek was still blood red. Ginny put up her hand and lightly brushed it across his cheek. To her surprise, Draco didn't move away. He stood, his slender figure trembling slightly, as if he were afraid.

"Ginny..." he started, and stopped abruptly. He had said her first name. Ginny looked in wonderment, and smiled softly.

"Yes, D-Draco?" she managed to stammer out. Draco's eyes lit up, and he grinned. It was a real smile, with no mocking and no malice.

God resigned, from hearing my old story.

Every night, I'm paying hell for glory.

I'm embarrassed but I'm much more sorry.

All this pain, begins to feel like pleasure,

With my tears, you'd make a sea a desert.

Salt my wounds and I'll keep saying thank you.

Draco said nothing. He lifted his hand, his long thin fingers brushing through her soft curls. Ginny bit her lip, still looking up into his face. His fine silver hair fell down, tumbling into his face as he looked down at her. His eyes were hidden in shadow, but she could plainly see the smile on his face. Draco suddenly pulled her close, wrapping his strong arms around her.

Ginny was startled, but instantly melted into the hug. She laid her head on his shoulder, feeling safe and warm. Ginny tilted her head up. Reaching up with her hand, she brushed the sparkling silver hair from his eyes. They were shining, filled with a warm glow that was never present before. And he was leaning forward.

Draco leaned down to Ginny. She closed her eyes just before their lips met. His mouth was warm, not like she'd imagined it at all. She had figured that he was cold, had a cold heart, a cold body, and cold blood. But this was untrue.

Finally, they pulled apart. Draco's normally pale face was filled with a healthy color. Ginny smiled, suddenly shy. She looked up as Draco spoke.

"Ginny...we've been fools."

But I can't help it if I'm just a fool,

Always having my heart set on you.

Till the time you start changing the rules,

I'll keep chasing the soles of your shoes.

Ahh, fool.
