CHAPTER -10

Ginny and Draco entered the flat, laughing hysterically at the madman they found on their way.

"Did you see the face he made as you showed him your wand?" Ginny roared with laughter as Draco copied his expression.

"Well, hello Gin, Malfoy!"

The sound put a full stop to their laughter and they turned to face Harry looking at them questioningly. He was carrying Dorje, who looked content enough in his arms and was purring softly at seeing Ginny.

Ginny took a deep breath, willing herself not to be angry. Since that evening she saw him near the café, she was so angry at him that she had completely ignored him in fear that she might throw something at him. The article next day, informing the public about Draco's return to England was appalling by making Draco out as a monster back to kill everybody. Thankfully, it had no mention about Ginny or Sarah. But it was nasty enough to make Gin and Hermione each send Cho an unnamed Howler.

"May I know where you were?" he asked, his voice so peremptory that Ginny reached for the keys to throw at him, but Draco grabbed her hand, saving Harry.

"Well, I may be your child's mother, but it doesn't give you any right to know about me so personally when you -" Ginny started irately but Draco interrupted.

"Well, we just went down the market to buy a few things for the photo collection Ginny is making," he informed Harry calmly.

Harry smiled quite genuinely, but Ginny saw a slight spark in his eyes, which angered her even more. "So, what was the problem? I just asked you a question. Was that wrong?" he asked her, still smiling, and patting Dorje gently with his hand. Ginny crossed the room and took Dorje from him, though a bit rudely.

"Yes, it is!" Ginny snapped and marched to her room, leaving Draco and Harry behind.

After a few minutes, Draco followed her. "There was no need to be so infuriated with him. He was just asking-" he said as he entered, but stopped as he saw her face, still red from anger. Dorje growled softly, a friendly action of her towards Draco, and he smiled at her.

"I want to move out of this house -find my own house, decorate my son's nursery, and reinstate my entire life. I can't tolerate him anymore," she said and stood up, pacing the room.

Draco grabbed her shoulders lightly. "You're acting strangely, Ginny. Don't be so impulsive! What has happened to you for God's sake? This is not the Ginny I knew and loved," he said, shaking her and pulling her close towards him slightly.

Ginny shrugged, non-committing. Draco said something so softly she didn't quite catch it and captured her lips in a kiss.

His kiss was passionate and possessive. Ginny was surprised but strangely, felt something rising deep inside her. He sucked her lips, pulling her as close as he could. Ginny moved her hands to his shoulders and let her fingers explore his hair. But they felt strange to her fingers and suddenly sanity came to her aid and she pushed away from him.

"We shouldn't be doing this Draco," she said, trembling.

"I love you Ginevra Weasley and want to marry you. Let Harry go to hell with whomever he wants to go with," Draco said passionately.

Ginny shook her head but he stopped her. "I want to marry you and give your child a healthy future. Please give me a chance!"

"But you are just a friend Draco. I'm sorry but I can't marry you," she said and took his hands. "You are the friend I need the most now. And I don't want to make it awkward because I know this won't last long. You're probably just hurt because of your impending divorce with Sarah." She kissed his cheeks as he forced a smile.

He sighed. "I guess so. But remember, if you ever change your plan, I am always there -ready to marry you for you and no one else," he said.

Ginny grinned. "You bet I'll do that. But I can offer you a choice."

"And what's that?"

She huffed. "Well, you can escort me to places with you as your girlfriend." She hesitated for a fraction of a second before she stood on her toes to kiss Draco ever so lightly on his lips.

"Ok, then!" he extended his arm, though his eyes showed surprise. "Where does the princess want to go first?" he asked with such an exaggerated chivalry that Ginny hit his arm playfully.

"Don't be such a chauvinist pig! But yes, I do want to go to the..." She thought for a second as she picked Dorje, who was snuggling in her foot, indicating that she wanted to be picked up. "Urm...to Mr. Simons in the opposite flat to close to deal we made three days ago," she finished as she slipped her arms in his and moved towards the door.

Draco looked puzzled. "Regarding what?"

"Well, I am buying the flat! They're emptying the flat in a week."

"You're not serious -are you?" He stopped.

Ginny pulled out a large bundle of Muggle money from her purse. "Not at all, darling. In fact -this is my advance. I'll be shifting completely there after my delivery when I'm on my own again," she said airily.

"When will that be?"

"It's for late November. Neither too early nor too late from now -just more than three months more," Ginny said warmly, feeling her swelled stomach.

Draco sighed exasperatedly. "Then I guess you are already fixed on your decision." He rang the bell on the door with a signboard 'Mr. And Mrs. Simon.'

"Welcome Miss Weasley! Mr. Simon is waiting for you," the servant of the house welcomed them as she opened the door and invited them in to complete their deal.

***

The closing of the deal infused a new zeal in Ginny, which she'd forgotten she'd ever had. She went constantly to the market with Draco to purchase items to decorate the nursery. Harry came with them whenever he could but didn't know about her new house. She did nearly the whole house from the start, demolishing the flat and then having it re-constructed for her wishes. The reconstruction was very tedious and time consuming, so Ginny used a tiny bit of magic to hasten the work of construction (which left all the muggle builders bewildered). Aside from that, she did all she could do for the child on her own in the Muggle way.

This left her so tired but content that she even forgave Harry and even worked together with him on her huge photo Collage she intended to make for her living room. They finally decided that in the centre it should have a slightly big photo of the present Ginny along with Harry. It would be surrounded by the photos of the Weasley clan and Ginny's school and work friends, including a few of Harry's parents. But the shock that Harry gave her that day flattened all her hope that she could raise her child peacefully, without too much of Harry's intervention (though she didn't dishearten his equal role in raising the child).

The door bell rang and Ginny went to answer it. She wasn't expecting someone at a time when almost everybody had to go to their respective jobs. She took a hasty step back as she saw Harry at the door, leaning against the wall with such an alluring male aura around him that she blushed furiously. He was wearing a simple and casual black sleeveless shirt and black denims, but the toned muscles of his arms and the hip hugging jeans made him so sexy that Ginny couldn't help blushing.

"Can I get some sugar, sugar?" he said nonchalantly, extending the measuring cup he was holding, towards her.

Ginny blushed even deeper and Harry smirked. "There's no need to call me sugar. Try these words on Harriet or Cho, not me," she muttered and moved aside, letting him in. "And why the hell you have come here to borrow sugar? Don't you have neighbours?"

"Well, I am asking from my neighbour. Aren't neighbours supposed to help each other?" Harry asked, feigning innocence.

"What do you mean Harry?" Ginny had a sense of foreboding.

"Well, I bought the flat adjacent to your new one." He seemed pleased with himself.

"WHAT? HOW?" Ginny roared, utterly surprised. "It wasn't for sale," she added quietly to herself.

"Well, they couldn't resist the generous offer I made to them for their flat," he said, shrugging.

"But why you suddenly but that one?" Ginny asked.

"Well, you can't expect anything less from me!"

Ginny moved towards the dining table and sat on the chair. She folded her legs and asked frigidly, "What?"

Harry's eyes changed from emerald green to clear sea green and Ginny knew that his anger was in check only for her. "You planned and bought a new house. You never told me about it. I'll admit that you could have told me about it later. But-" He banged the table so loudly with a flattened palm that Ginny flinched. "-you omitted that news from me. We have been shopping for so long and not once, Gin, not once did you tell me that you have already started decorating the nursery! I wouldn't have even known about it, if Ron hadn't let it slip by mistake when we talked on phone about his match with Bulgaria."

The low, but menacing tone of his shook her to the inner core but Ginny was equally angry. "Well, I already told you earlier that you didn't need be so interfering in my life. I agreed to your involvement in my child's life, but not mine!"

"But you are my child's mother and indirectly everything you do will affect him," he argued, but his voice did not rise. It might've helped Ginny if he had shouted at her, but he spoke so low and quietly that it would have frightened even Hermione and Ron.

"Not this, though! I don't need to take every step with your permission, for Merlin's sake!" Ginny waved her hands in annoyance.

"But you have to tell me. I have a right to know where my child is, and you can't take that from me," he said, moving away from the table.

"But why did you buy the flat near mine?" Ginny asked, irritated by his constant interference.

"I want more involvement in my child's life than you are offering me Gin. And I can ensure that by living nearby to him, so I bought the flat and sold my old one," he said calmly, looking directly in her eyes.

Ginny couldn't believe it, even though she was frightened at the clear, hard green gleam in his eyes. "Enough is enough Harry! How dare you say that! Do you mean that I am incapable? What do you want Harry?" she shouted at him, finally losing her control and throwing a plate at him in frustration. Harry easily deflected it with a wave of his wand.

"We should marry, Gin. If not for our own sanity but the welfare of our child!"

Ginny could feel her head throbbing but she needed to clear this topic once for all with him. She was so aggravated at his proposal that she wanted to throw something more heavy at him. But she satisfied herself by pulling the whole table mat, breaking the entire cutlery lying on it in the process.

"Can't you understand my situation Harry?" she shouted.

"That's why I intend to marry you! And calm down, Gin!" She looked at him without a hint of apology, her jaw set squarely in a way that made Harry think of Ron when Hermione was questioning his proposal of marriage. Harry had been privileged to witness the moment, when Hermione had lost her head and blurted out exactly fifty sensible reasons against the idea of their becoming man and wife. Ginny did not, it must be said, look as though marriage to Harry was something she was considering. Hexing him, however, seemed to have some appeal.

"You take it all wrong! I want to be independent, not married to you just because I am pregnant and weak. I am vulnerable, no doubt about it. However, I am an Auror and I can take care of my child on my own!" She felt the tears flowing on her cheeks, but continued in her anger. "At least give me a chance. You just fire all these things at me as though I don't care about my own child!"

Harry moved towards her. "Gin, calm down-"

"How can I, when you are all pointing out my mistakes and acting like this? Is it supposed to make me better? All you are care about is your child! You don't give a goddamn about me, his mother!" she wailed, kneeling down on her knees, trying to control her tears.

Harry grabbed her roughly by her shoulders, pulled her up and shook her. "Stop it, Gin! You are getting overly emotional." Ginny obeyed quickly as she saw the intensity in his eyes. "I want the safety for my child, but also for you. Try to understand. Marriage is the best way we can do that." He pulled her slightly closer to him and Ginny could feel her cheeks being fanned by his breath. Her breath quickened and she had trouble composing her next sentence.

"Does Harriet know about the child?" she asked, stammering.

Harry pushed a damp strand of hair from her head and shook his head. "No!"

"Then how will you explain this to her?" She registered surprise in some far recess of her mind.

Harry did not leave her, but his hold slackened slightly. "I might explain it to her better if you agree to marry me, Gin," he said and Ginny came back from her reverie.

She let out a breath of desperation. "How can I explain it to you, Harry? I told you I can't marry you. I can't tell you the other reason I can't marry you or even anyone else. Don't force me to elaborate on it, but I simply can't," she pleaded to him.

Harry looked surprised but they were interrupted at that exact moment by Hermione, who burst through the door, carrying Dorje in her arms and talking happily into her cell phone.

"That's such happy news Ron! I'll -oops!" She stopped dead as she grasped the scene before her eyes. Harry and Ginny were in an awkward position near the dining table, with its entire cutlery broken on the floor. Harry immediately released Ginny, as if he had just received a huge electric shock. Ginny looked down, not being able to look at her best friend.

"I'll talk to you later honey, okay? Bye," she whispered a hurried goodbye and put the cell phone in her pocket. She put Dorje down, who rushed to Ginny and snuggled at her feet. Ginny ignored her.

She turned to Harry. "Do I have the right to know what was going on here?" she asked him in a rather matter-of-fact tone, but Ginny knew she was smirking in her heart.

Harry flatly refused. "No, all you need to know is that I bought the flat just adjacent to Gin's."

"WHAT? Oops-"

Hermione dropped the stack of cutlery she was carrying towards the kitchen and Ginny flinched as they crashed once again on the floor.

"When did you buy the flat?" she asked him, her wand still in the position of levitating the cutlery, shock written on every inch of her face.

Harry suddenly grinned mischievously at her and Ginny's heart skipped a beat. It was good to see him grin. In fact, she realized glumly, it was good to see him all together, even if he was happy or angry.

"Well, three days ago I talked to Ron on his cell phone. He didn't mean to, but he accidentally slipped that Gin sold her flat and had bought this one and was already in the process of furnishing it-" His own cell rang, disturbing his explanation. He saw who was calling, cut the call and continued to talk, "-so I thought 'I have to move out of my place' -the stringy owner was badgering me to leave it. So, I bought this flat, knowing it would be a place near my child."

Hermione frowned. "That wasn't something nice and chivalrous, Harry." Ginny was delighted to hear Hermione support her.

"Why?" He frowned too.

"Well, for once, how will you explain it to Harriet? Are you planning to tell her everything?" Hermione repeated Ginny's words.

Harry looked thoughtful. "No, I haven't decided that yet," he confessed finally. His cell rang again but he cut it again.

Hermione tutted in indignation, "That's so irresponsible for you! You weren't like this before. She is your fiancée and has a right to know about it."

"I also have a right to my child, but I'll see to it later. You both aren't in your right minds now." Hermione scowled so he wisely swerved the topic. "And Gin-" Harry turned to her, his eyes suddenly twinkling, pleading, "-you will involve me in decorating the nursery, won't you?"

Ginny had an over-whelming urge to deny him, but was touched at his love for the unborn child. She looked at Hermione, who was nodding excitedly at his back and laughed. "Okay, okay! But it won't start until next week. We have to wait until the construction slows down. It will still take two months to complete."

Harry smiled and Ginny was instantly reminded of the Harry she once dated in her fifth year. His smile was the same, heart-warming and genuine smile of his school time, when he still was free from the burden he carried after Dumbledore's death.

"It will be finished by tomorrow afternoon," he promised.

"No, I'm happy the way its going. Don't change it," Ginny told him, not at all really minding the strenuous attention the builders needed from her.

"As you wish, though I can speed it up whenever you want," Harry assured her.

His cell-phone rang again for the third time and finally he picked up. "What Harriet?" he snapped into the phone. "I can't come tomorrow evening. I've got an urgent work assignment... tonight?" His voice softened slightly as he went away, talking.

"Well, what happened?" Hermione asked her, her eyes gleaming. Dorje let out a frustrated growl finally and went to Ginny's room.

"Nothing," she said shortly.

"Ok, don't tell me," she started singing as she switched on the muggle stereo. It played a lovely muggle song from a cassette Draco had given to Ginny recently. It contained a number of songs he had listened to when he was in India. He had become such an addict that he bought muggle music to listen to even now.

Hermione listened to it for a few seconds and then muttered, "Nice song, was it from Draco?"

Ginny nodded. "I love these songs," she confessed to Hermione.

Apparently Harry also joined them. "Seasons in the Sun -I love this song. Parvati also played a few Hindi and a few English muggle songs in the party she gave for her son," he explained as Ginny shot him a puzzled expression.

"Could you list some other songs?" Hermione enquired him playfully.

He swept his wand and all the cutlery flew back to its place, intact. "Well, I know and like loads of them, but will list only a few. They are -" He paused for a few seconds, thinking and counting on his fingers, "-from Enrique, Shakira, a group called Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Norah Jones."

Hermione looked impressed. "Wow! You seem quite up-to-date in Muggle Music at least. Is it real or just to impress us?"

Harry mocked indignation. "Of course it's real. Come see me any day and take any CD you want."

Hermione grinned and gave him a high five. "You said it."

Ginny felt she needed to say something. "Do you just listen to them or do you sing them as well?"

Harry donned a mysterious expression, uncanny of Professor Trelawney. "Well, I'm more of a bathroom singer actually. I've never sung for anyone else," he said. "Okay, I've got to go. Mrs. Bones has again started bullying to resign as the Minister," he informed her, moving towards the door.

"Give her my love and advice not to leave," Ginny called out to Harry, having already forgiven him for what she was so violently angry only a few minutes ago.

"I'll do that. Meet you tomorrow at the nursery," he called out from the door.

"Don't take him seriously, Ginny. He's in no way being imposing by buying the adjacent flat," Hermione rushed as soon as the door closed.

"I know. But by doing all this, he's getting on my nerves."

"I wonder why he is doing all this," Hermione mused.

Ginny didn't tell her that he had already asked her to marry twice because of the child. "And we've talked about his interference limit so many a times Hermione." Ginny cut an apple and offered one to Hermione.

"You eat this! I have to talk to Ron, he's so adorable-"

"I know, know," remarked Ginny, rolling her eyes. "But you didn't say that before he proposed you."

"Shut up, Ginny. He bought a lovely item in France for his daughter as he says and he's coming back tomorrow before the league to-" She stopped as her cell phone rang again.

"Hi Sweetie!" she cooed into her cell, looking reproachfully at Ginny, who mimed gagging on her apple. "Well, it was nothing. Just Crookshanks and Dorje had a fight in the kitchen." She looked meaningfully at Ginny, informing her that she was telling Ron why she cut the phone earlier. "Harry was in the house at that time and Ginny and he got quite scared of the mess created in there. Anyways..."
