Chapter Fourteen

Draco decided to put a pressure upon Harry to direct their relationship the way he wanted to, the way he needed to. It is time to show my teeth, Draco thought entering their bedroom, it is time to make him understand that I am a person, a wizard, not some kind of a toy or a thing.

Harry was already in bed, lying on his back, his belly protruding through blankets.

Draco took a first step that evening: standing in Harry's view he carefully, lazily removed all of his clothes to reveal ghastly scars that covered his entire body. Then, without putting any pyjamas on, Draco got in bed and turned his naked back to his husband.

Harry showed no reaction at all.

Fifteen minutes passed in absolute silence.

"Malfoy?"

"What?" Draco said in the most irritated voice he could master.

"Even if I wanted to remove your scars I wouldn't be able to at the moment. Your child makes me as hopeless as you are. So you may put something on and stop shivering."

"You are the worst person I know, Potter."

"Well, what did you expect? I am your soul mate after all."

"Does it somehow mean we are the same?"

"Of course not! It means we are perfect for each other."

"Do you think we are?"

"No. Do you?"

"Merlin, no!"

"But we should be."

"Life doesn't go as planned. I believe it even doesn't matter who or what planned it."

"I must admit I'll agree with you on that."

"Was it so hard?"

"No, it was not."

Another fifteen minutes passed. But it was a different kind of silence now; even companionable, maybe.

"I wish I had your power," Draco said in a dreamy sort of voice.

"What for?"

"To make things the way I want them to be."

"Don't you like the way things are?"

"You mean the way you made them?"

"Yes."

"No. I don't."

"Do you think you would have made the world a better place than I did?"

"Maybe."

"Unfortunately for the world then, the Universe didn't see fit to give you that amount of power."

"But it made you my soul mate."

"Probably to irritate me."

"So full of yourself you are."

"Is it difficult to be pregnant?"

"Why? Want to try next time?"

"There will be a next time?"

"Don't you want a house full of children?"

"As a matter of fact, I do."

"So, it's your turn then."

"Is it even possible?"

"I guess it isn't. But, you know, it's quite a bore not to be in my full power."

"Does it mean we won't have any more children?"

"It doesn't. But, I assure you, I have no desire to have ten kids at the age of 25."

"Oh, don't worry, I want only six children at the age, let's say, 30."

"And who would be responsible for the upbringing of six children?"

"You, of course! Who else?"

"I am a Chief Warlock, for Merlin's sake!"

"Maybe I would be a Chief Warlock in your stead and you would be sitting at home, upbringing our children, cooking -"

"Do I look like a housewife to you?"

"Oh, with the belly and all... in fact you look exactly like a good housewife."

Harry turned onto his side quite angrily and pretended for an hour that he was fast asleep. Draco was lying beside him, busy smirking for that same hour.

They fell asleep at the same time.
