Chapter Thirteen
Harry and Draco were lying uncomfortably on very comfortable bed.
"Potter?"
"What?"
"What you said about Jerkins and Weasley... Is it true?"
"Yes."
"And how long you knew that?"
"From the very first time I saw them... glaring at each other when Charlie came to teach Care of Magical Creatures here."
"It seemed to me that they didn't like each other."
"Doesn't it remind you anything?"
"So... soul mates should hate each other?"
"No, they should have, err, well... strong feelings. Something like that."
"Strong feelings, indeed."
***
Berth Jerkins was at a loss as to what he should say to his soul mate. He was used to getting what he wanted from people. The only person in the world he had to take orders from was Harry.
He observed from the distance as Charlie was tending to some monstrous-looking beast. Charlie bent down to pick something, Berth had to take a few calming breaths. Not now. I am master of my body, dammit! Lie still! I haven't yet forgiven you for that thing with Draco!
Berth suddenly remembered that he was a Gryffindor; so he decided to act like one.
"Charlie, we need to talk."
"Talk, then."
"We should stop behaving like over-grown kids, I guess."
"What a good way to start a talk," said Charlie sarcastically. "Did Harry order you to talk to me?"
"Well... actually, yes."
"Go away."
Berth was outraged.
"No, darling, I am not going away! And you are going to listen to what I've got to say!"
"And who the hell gave you the right to tell me what to do?"
Charlie wasn't a Weasley for nothing: he whipped out his wand and aimed it at Berth who'd gotten his own wand out in an instant.
"Boys," said Hermione stepping out of bushes, "you will both give me your wands and continue talking like civilised men you are pretending to be." The work done, Hermione disappeared into bushes.
"Well," Berth started, "I am not really good at giving passionate speeches... but I think I am rather good at this."
And with those words he grabbed the front of Charlie's robes, yanked him forward and sealed their mouths in a searing kiss. Charlie was at first just shocked, then he tried to fight off Berth. Having achieved nothing, he gave in to the long-forgotten sensation that he tried (without any success) to find in so many others.
Neither of the two soul mates noticed choking sounds and then muttered Ugh! Men! coming from behind the bushes.
***
Berth and Charlie shagged approximately a hundred times those afternoon, evening and night until they both fell asleep in each other's arms, completely satisfied. Both of them knew for sure that they had finally found what they'd been looking for.
***
The other pair of soul mates in Hogwarts didn't have any sex, nor were they satisfied with life, each other or themselves, let alone completely. The most interesting thing, however, was that they had only themselves to blame. But, unfortunately, both of them were very far from understanding it.
It is so much easier to blame others in your misfortunes than seeing your own mistakes and flaws of character. It is so difficult to confess that you were wrong and at the very least attempt to somehow make up for the damage you had done. It is almost impossible to admit defeat. It is absolutely impossible to come to understanding that all you have believed in, all you have been used to, all the things you have considered normal - everything - was, in fact, wrong... or useless.
