Section IV, Chapter III, The Extinguishing

Twenty-Seventh Day of the Eight Month of the Year

I threatened to do it and I did it. I left them- the school and my former friends. Let me explain how.

It took a lot of thought for me to know whether I should stay or go. I thought back on everything.. since the time I had met them. I had always disagreed with them on something and I didn't think it was worth staying for....

I went to tell them that I was leaving and I think that was the final straw. I walked up to Rowena first, as she was my superior.

"Rowena, I have decided to leave." I said it slowly, pronouncing each word.

She looked up at me, without saying a word for a few minutes. Then she spoke, "If that is what you chose, then so be it." I detected some sadness in her voice. But her eyes were cold. They held no emotion whatsoever. She turned around, without saying another word and continued her work. I left the room and went to Godric, my former friend. I told him the same thing. His reaction was one of disappointment, but he didn't bother to talk me out of it. He couldn't have done anything even if he had tried. Then on to Helga, who had the most unexpected reaction.

She just started at me and said, "Salazar... I hope you know what this will do to you. Good luck in life." She looked away and I left.

And this is why it was the last straw. None of them cared! None of them honestly cared to try to stop me! They didn't give me the satisfaction of getting the better of them. I am somewhere far away from them all.... and I will never return. Ever! The school holds a part of me that will not be known until my blood returns to that place.

~ Salazar Slytherin

Twenty-Ninth Day of the Eight Month of the Year

He said he'd do it and he's done it. I never honestly thought my friend would do such a thing! He told me that he was leaving. I was disappointed in him. I knew I couldn't convince him against doing it so I said very little. I could tell he was disappointed in my reaction, though. But I never thought it mattered to him at all. Now it's just the three of us: Rowena, Helga and myself. I wonder if and how we are going to tell the students what happened. And we need to find new teachers to take Salazar's place. Life is going to be hectic within the next few days.

~ Godric Gryffindor

Ron was stunned. The reading had changed his perception of all of the Founders. He was glad Hermione had made him read it. "I need to thank her somehow. She deserves it!" He continued reading.

Twenty-Ninth Day of the Eight Month of the Year

Salazar has left and we are lacking a friend and a teacher. I have two days in which to find a new teacher for all the subjects Salazar once taught. In the meantime, I will take up some as will Godric and Helga. However, we need a new potions master. I'm going to be extremely busy trying to find a new teacher. I cannot write anymore now. My life is at the lowest point it has ever been.

~ Rowena Ravenclaw

Thirtieth Day of the Eight Month of the Year

Our former friend, Salazar Slytherin, has left us and left us as friends and us as a school. Rowena is having a fit trying to find replacement teachers for the subjects he once taught. Godric is plainly disappointed in him. And I... well.. I hold no emotion on the subject at all, which is rather strange. When he informed me of his leaving, I just wished him luck. I know he thought my reaction was unexpected, but what can I do now? The past is the past and I can't change it. I must go help Rowena now or she will have a mental breakdown.

~ Helga Hufflepuff

Ron gaped at the pages! The whole story was much different than what he had heard. He took a quick peek and the next chapter. Section V, the Deaths of the Founders.
