Chapter One

"Ron, why don't you just tell her already? You've been in love with her since second year!" Harry Potter exclaimed to his best friend, Ron Weasley. Ron just stared dreamily at her.

"I can't, Harry," Ron protested.

"Why not?"

"Because we both know how Hermione is. She obviously doesn't like me," Ron explained wistfully.

Harry frowned. "How do you know that?"

Ron shrugged. "Because, Hermione likes smart guys. I'm not smart. You know how it is with those know-it-all girls. They like guys with brains."

Someone snorted from behind them. "So you're telling me Weasel's finally admitting he's pathetically stupid?" Draco Malfoy stood in front of Harry and Ron. They were all in the Great Hall, eating lunch. Ron and Harry were sitting at the Gryffindor table.

Ron glared at him. "Get out of here, you bloody git," he said. "What are you doing here?"

Malfoy smirked at him. "Why, to be with Harry, of course."

"Harry doesn't want to see you, Malfoy," Ron retorted. "Just because you're Harry's boyfriend - " Ron paused long enough to make a gagging face " - Doesn't mean he wants to be with you twenty-four seven."

Harry sighed. "C'mon, you guys. Cut it out already before you make another scene like yesterday." Malfoy walked over to Harry and sat on his lap. Malfoy leaned forward and "nose-kissed" Harry. Harry giggled liked a little girl. Ron turned away from the gruesome sight. Suddenly, he didn't feel like eating the rest of his lunch.

Ron still couldn't believe that his best friend was dating the slimy little git. Harry and Malfoy had been dating since sixth year. Now they were seventh years. To make matters worse, even though Harry was gay, he still had millions of female fans screaming after him. What was it with girls and gay men? And now that Harry had admitted to the magical world that he was gay, his fan base had only grown because gay wizards were after him, as well. It just was not fair.

Harry could have any girl he wanted (or any guy, for his matter), while Ron couldn't even get the one girl he's loved since second year to even notice him. Sure, he and Hermione Granger were best friends, but Ron wanted to be more than "just friends."

Hermione was busy talking to Ginny Weasley, Ron's younger sister. As Ron stared at her, for a split second, Hermione turned to glance at Ron, giving him some sort of a smile. But almost as soon as she had, she turned back around to face Ginny.

Wish I knew what they were discussing, thought Ron. Hopefully they are discussing me. But he didn't think too highly of it.

When lunch was over, Ron watched Harry and Malfoy leave the Hall for afternoon classes. Ron stayed behind with Hermione, who was now so engrossed in a book she was reading that she didn't seem to realize it was time for classes.

Ron moved toward Hermione and looked over her shoulder, hoping to start up a conversation of some sort. "So, Hermione - what are you reading?" he asked nervously.

Hermione glanced at him. "Oh! Ron, I'm just, um, reading a book I got out from the library," she replied.

Ron grinned at her. "Well, I think I should be the one to tell you that lunch is over and it's time to get to History of Magic."

"Really?" Hermione's eyes grew wide. "Oh, no! We're going to be late!" And she shut her book and hurried out of the Great Hall. Ron followed close behind. Hermione and Ron took many of the same classes together. Ron was taking Muggle studies, but he still needed some of the basic magical courses as well, like History of Magic. Hermione was majoring in teaching, though didn't yet know what subject, so she was concentrating on all of them. Meanwhile, Harry wanted to be an Auror, so he was taking separate courses. Draco Malfoy also wanted to be an Auror, and he was taking all of the same classes as Harry, much to Ron's dislike. Harry and Malfoy were having double Potions with Professor Snape. And Ron was just lucky he didn't have to take Potions anymore. The only magical courses he needed to take were Charms, Transfigurations, and History of Magic.

*This story will now take an intermission break, as Professor Binns, Ron's History teacher, is a ghost and very boring and all he does during class is give extremely boring lectures. Most of his students fall asleep in his class, anyway. So there's not much to discuss here, unless you want to discuss Ron's snoring!*

During History of Magic, Ron had fallen asleep (as usual) and dreamed of a spell he had done on Hermione to make her fall in love with him. The dream was simply divine, and he was terribly disappointed when Professor Binns woke him up at the end of class.

When Ron told Harry about the dream after class (he found Harry in the halls on the way to Charms), Harry simply shook his head sadly, and muttered something under his breath, which Ron hadn't been able to make out. But he didn't care.

What if that dream was possible! Ron was sure he could find something on love spells. He was sure Hermione knew of some, but he didn't want to ask her for advice because then he'd have to tell her the truth. So he decided to go to the library and skip Charms class for some private research. Ron had a lot of studying to do!
