"Miracles Happen"

Chapter Two- Unreal

I stood, completely stunned, before I launched myself forward. I told Lauren to stay put. I reached Harry. He was lying on his back, his legs under the front of the SUV. One arm was draped over his stomach; the other was stretched out. His glasses lay a few inches from his head. A thin ribbon of blood flowed from the corner of his mouth.

I crouched down beside him.

"Harry! Harry! Answer me!" I cried.

He just moaned.

The driver of the SUV had shoved open the driver's side door. I looked up. She jumped down.

"Oh my God," she said, as a hand flew to her mouth. "I'm so sorry. I didn't see him."

She looked awful and sick.

"Call for help," I said, forcing my voice to remain calm, but my heart was pounding a mile a minute and I felt close to vomiting myself.

She got back into the car and called.

I put a hand on Harry's shoulder.

"Please don't leave me," I pleaded, as tears began forming.

"Mummy," I heard Lauren's voice behind me.

I looked up. There were tears in her green eyes.

"Daddy Okay?" asked Lauren in a small voice, which began shaking.

"Yes, honey. Daddy will be just fine," I said.

Only in my heart I wished I could believe my own words.

About 5 minutes later, an ambulance came and took him to the hospital.

I nervously waited in the waiting room. Lauren was sitting beside me, just hugging herself. I had called Ron, Fleur, Ginny and the rest of the Weasley's, plus my parents.

A short time later, they all entered the hospital and were heading toward me.

"Hermione!" cried Ginny as she rushed toward me and threw her arms around me.

I hugged her back tightly, trying not to burst into tears in front of Lauren.

"Hermione, are you holding up okay?" asked Ron as he too, threw his arms around me and hugged me.

"Yeah, but I'm more worried about Harry right now," I said as I released him.

I hugged Fleur and my parents.

"What exzactly happened?" asked Fleur, as she tossed her silvery blond hair over her shoulder.

"Harry was crossing the street. Percy had called him to help him at the Ministry. He wanted Harry to drive into London, and then they were going to go from Diagon Alley. Percy was going to meet him there. This huge SUV came barreling down the street and hit him," I said.

I fell silent. Fleur studied me closely.

"Zat ez not ze only zing bothering you, ez it?"

"No. I had a nightmare. I dreamed that Harry got hit, and look what happened," I said quietly.

"But Hermione, it was just a coincidence," said Ginny softly.

"But look it at my point of view! I had the dream! Harry got hit in real life! What if I made it happen somehow?" I cried.

"Zere ez no way you could've made it 'appen, Hermione," said Fleur softly.

"Absolutely not, honey," said my mother quietly. "If I know Harry, he will be up and running around in no time."

I just sighed and sat down beside Lauren. My nerves felt like they were about to snap at any moment.

"Listen. Go back home with Lauren, change, the both of you, and come back? We'll all stay and keep an ear out for how Harry's doing," said Ron as he sat down beside me.

"Ronnie!" cried Lauren as she jumped down off the seat and rushed over to him.

"Hey, Lauren!" said Ron as he gave her a hug.

"Okay. Could someone give me a ride home?" I asked.

"I will," offered Fleur.

I stood up again and took Lauren's hand. Fleur, Lauren and I began heading out of the hospital and over to her 2004 silver Mercedes Benz sedan. We climbed into the car; Lauren in the backseat. Fleur started the car and we pulled out of the guest parking lot.

"Hermione, Harry will be juzst fine. Your muzzer was right," said Fleur softly.

"Thanks. It just seems so unreal," I said, quietly looking into the outside side view mirror at Lauren, who was looking out the window at the other cars passing by.

No mountain's too high, for you to climb. All you have to do, is have some kind of faith.

No rivers too wide, to make it across. All you have to do is believe it when you pray.

I'll be your cloud up in the sky. I'll be your shoulder when you cry, I hear your voices when you call me, I'm your Angel and when all hope is gone I'm here, no matter how far you've gone from here. It makes no difference who you are, I'm your Angel.

I blinked. I was reliving Harry and I's wedding through a vision inside the mirror. I saw Harry and I laughing. The guests were also laughing as I had pushed a piece a cake into Harry's face. He had retaliated.

I blinked again. The vision vanished. I shook my head. I was pretty close to snapping, but I was fighting it on account of Lauren.

We drove the rest of the way in silence.

Fleur assured me she'd wait for us while we changed. I got Lauren dressed in a pair of jeans and a pink T-shirt. I had her wait in the hallway. I laid my wand down on the nightstand as I pulled out a pair of black pants and a white V collared shirt. I pulled on the clothes, then I grabbed my wand, studying it as if I saw it for the first time. I felt the anger boiling in my chest. I gripped the wand and headed downstairs to the living room, where the pictures of Harry and I's wedding were resting on the mantle piece above the fireplace. We were grinning and happy. I raised my wand, aiming it at the pictures. I snapped at the sight of them.

"Obliverate!" I shouted.

A thin jet of orange shot out from the end of my wand, hitting one of the pictures. The glass shattered into tiny pieces as well as the picture itself. I rounded on the other ones.

"Obliverate!"

The next pictures were destroyed.

"Mummy?" I heard Lauren's voice from the entranceway into the living room.

I turned around, my wand still raised. My breath was sawing in and out. Then, I realized I had turned my wand onto my own daughter. I lowered my wand and dropped to my knees. I sat back on my heels. I couldn't hold it in anymore. I burst into tears. Lauren came running over to me. I threw my arms around her and pulled her close. She buried her face into my shoulder and sobbed. I pressed my face into her hair.

"I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry," I sobbed into her hair.

I just held her as we sobbed and slightly rocked back and forth.

"I want Daddy," sobbed Lauren.

"I do too," I sobbed back.

Once we felt like we couldn't cry anymore, we headed outside.

"Ez everything okay, Hermione?" asked Fleur worriedly, probably seeing my red, puffy eyes.

"Yes. Let's go," I said.

Fleur studied me closely before she put the car in drive and we pulled away from the curb.

Back at the hospital, I found the everyone inside a room. Fleur, Lauren and I entered. Lauren rushed over to Ron. Ron picked her up in his arms and held her. I stepped forward. Harry was lying in a bed. A white sheet and soft blue blanket was pulled up to his chest. His arms lay over the blanket at his sides. A heart monitor was hooked up to him, as well as an IV. His untidy jet black hair was its normal self against the white pillow. His eyes were closed. An oxygen mask was over his nose and mouth. His chest was rising and falling in rhythm.

"How is he?" I asked tentatively.

"The doctor was just in 5 minutes before you came. He says Harry has some broken ribs and internal bleeding. He's not out of the woods yet, but they're keeping him on a tight rein. Blimey," said Ron shaking his head.

He looked just as upset and sick as I felt. His blue eyes were blood shot and puffy.

Just then, a loud steady beep went off. We all looked at the heart monitor. A flat line went across the screen. Harry began convulsing. His eyes opened and they focused on me. He began vomiting up blood, which flowed from under the edges of the oxygen mask. Doctors and nurses rushed in. I stood, completely terrified.

The doctors put a siphoning tube in his throat.

Harry's green eyes were still locked on me. Then they rolled back into his head.

"Defib!" A doctor cried.

They began using the defibrillator.

"Clear!"

They put the paddles to Harry's chest.

His body jumped.

They did it a second time.

The heart monitor was still showing a flat line.
