"Miracles Happen"

Chapter One- The Nightmare.

Harry was walking across the street. I was standing by the curb, waving him good-bye as he headed toward his 2006 Ford Taurus. The sun was shining brightly in the soft, blue sky. I could smell the freshly cut grass from our neighbor's house. Lauren was standing beside me, waving at Harry also. Suddenly, there was a horn blaring. I look to the left and there's a white SUV coming full speed.

"Harrry!" I screamed.

He looked up at me and Lauren just as the SUV slammed into him, on his right side. Harry flew up onto the hood. The SUV's brake was hit. The tires skidded over the asphalt; rear tires kicking up smoke. Harry slid off the hood and landed on his back in front of the truck. I could see a red liquid smeared on the hood. Lauren was sobbing. I screamed.

I woke up screaming. I was sitting bolt upright in bed, my dark brown bushy hair clinging to my back and shoulders. I was dressed in a white tank top and pink shorts. My heart was pounding in my chest. Harry had woken the minute I screamed and he ended up falling off the bed, tangled in the sheets.

"Wha--? What's wrong, Hermione?" asked Harry worriedly as he climbed back into the bed.

"I had this awful nightmare! You were hit by a car!" I sobbed, shivering.

"Oh," said Harry quietly and softly. "I'm not going anywhere. Don't worry."

He hugged me and kissed me.

It's been 6 years since we graduated from Hogwarts. Harry and I tried to shoot for a normal life, but our daughter is just like us now. She'll end up going to Hogwarts when the time is right. I'm not complaining, though. I just kinda wanted a normal life, or as much as normal as possible. Ron was married to Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons Academy. She had visited Hogwarts in our 6th year again for the next Yule Ball. Everyone that had attended the Tri-Wizard Tournament in 4th year was welcomed back for another Yule Ball. Ginny was off on her own also. Harry and I had gotten married 3 years ago and we had a daughter named Lauren. She looks exactly like him with the dark green eyes and jet-black hair, which reached her shoulders. Those that had survived You-Know-Who's second rise to power was either traumatized, or near being traumatized. I pressed my face into Harry's shoulder, just enjoying the darkness of his black T-shirt as his arms wrapped around me, pulling me tighter against him.

"Hey, I'm not going anywhere, I promise. It's all over now," said Harry quietly.

I just sobbed.

Just then, the door to the bedroom opened and Lauren came bouncing in.

"Mum! Dad!"

She jumped up onto the bed in-between Harry and I and was clutching her teddy bear.

"Hey!" said Harry, putting his face close to hers.

He groped for his glasses on the nightstand and put them on.

"Mum! Dad!" cried Lauren happily.

"Let's get down to breakfast," said Harry as he tossed the covers off of him and picked Lauren up in his arms. He grabbed his wand off the nightstand and they headed out of the room.

I sat smiling to myself before I dried my eyes and tossed off the covers also and swung my legs over the side of the bed. I stretched. I grabbed my wand off the nightstand and put it in my pocket. I headed out of the room.

We were now living in a small area just out side London in a two story house with driveway on the left side. There was a small manicured lawn out front also. I padded into the hall. Harry and Lauren were heading down stairs.

"Let's eat. I'm starving!" I said.

Harry laughed as we headed downstairs to the kitchen.

The kitchen was modern, in a light blue and white. There were oak cabinets above the sink, stove and countertop. A matching oak topped island was in the center with stools so you could sit. Lauren plopped down at the kitchen table and began pouring herself some orange juice.

I went over to the refrigerator and pulled out the jar of coffee.

I twisted the cap, but it wouldn't budge.

"Oh this is ridiculous. Alohamora!" I said, as I pulled my wand out of my pocket and aimed it at the jar's cover.

The cover twisted off with a 'pop'.

"You love that spell, don't you, Hermione?" asked Harry grinning.

"It's useful," I said as I began making coffee.

"I remember the first time you used it," said Harry. "We were snooping around the castle in our first year."

"You and Ron were. I was just simply trying not to get into trouble," I said indignantly.

Harry laughed.

"Sure,"

I frowned at him.

"Okay! Okay! I'm sorry," chuckled Harry.

I grinned.

Just then, the phone rang.

"Hello?" I asked as I had gotten to the phone first and picked up the receiver.

"Hermione? It's Percy. Is Harry there?" asked Ron's older brother quickly.

"Sure, hang on," I said, handing Harry the phone. "Percy."

Harry took the receiver. He laid his wand down on the counter top.

"Hi Percy. What's up?" asked Harry as I began making the pancakes.

A pause, then, "Oh no. When?"

I looked up from the stove.

I studied him carefully.

Another pause, then, "OK. I will be right there,"

Harry hung up the phone.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Problem at the Ministry. Percy asked me to help him,"

I snorted.

"That sounds like fun,"

"Yeah, but it's a job right?" asked Harry as he got ready to Apparate upstairs. He Apparated. A few minutes later, he Apparated back down stairs dressed in tan pants and a navy shirt.

"I won't be too long. Percy wants me to drive into London. Then, we'll go to the Ministry through Diagon Alley. Want anything from Diagon Alley?" asked Harry.

"Maybe a new spell book. Just see what they have," I said.

"Promise," said Harry grinning.

He came over to me and put his hands on my shoulders.

"Listen, don't worry about that dream, OK? I won't go anywhere. It's over...for good,"

I nodded, biting my lip. That dream was so vivid and real.

"Stop worrying,"

"I'll try,"

He gave me a kiss before he went over to Lauren.

"Bye, kiddo. I'll see you later," said Harry, giving Lauren a hug and kiss good-bye before leaving the house with his car keys.

I looked over onto the counter top. He'd forgotten his wand.

"Hey! Daddy forgot his wand. Let's go give it to him, OK?" I asked, as I took Harry's wand and Lauren's hand.

"Ok!" said Lauren excitedly.

We exited the house, Harry's wand in my left hand.

I reached the curb. Harry was crossing the street.

"Harry! You forgot your wand!" I called.

Harry had just reached his car.

"Oh! Thanks! I'd feel really stupid if I showed up without it. That and I feel naked without it,"

"Ugh. Don't put visuals in my head," I said shivering jokingly.

"Funny," said Harry as he came back across the street and took the wand from my hand.

He began crossing the street again.

I looked up. I heard the screeching of tires around the corner.

A white SUV came speeding around the corner, black skid marks lay in the asphalt in an arc. My heart pounded loudly.

Oh my God. The dream is coming true!

The SUV's horn blared.

"Harrrrry!" I screamed

Harry looked up.

The front of the SUV slammed into his side, tossing him up onto the hood from the force. The brake was hit; the rear tires kicking up smoke as they skidded on the asphalt. Harry slid off the hood and landed on his back on the ground in front the SUV. A red liquid was smeared on the hood. Lauren was sobbing next to me. I screamed.
