Author's Note:
This story is pretty strange. I'm not really into Harry/Ginny that much anymore, so it was tough to write. I hope you all enjoy it.

Sleepless Nights

Harry sighed as he rolled over in bed again. He couldn't get comfortable in his bed anymore. He felt like something was missing - something had left him, that he never really had in the first place.

He stared at the canopy over his four-post bed, as he listened to Neville snore. He was so tired, but he hadn't been able to sleep in months, and he knew that he wouldn't fall asleep now. It was no use even trying - even if he did get to sleep, it wouldn't be a peaceful slumber.

It had taken Harry only a few sleepless nights over the summer to realize what was missing now. A feeling, a person.... And he felt so sad, being all alone like he was. He wanted so badly to have the one thing in his life that he didn't have. He would give anything to feel it.

Hell, Harry just wanted to be a normal kid. He was seventeen years old, and he had never had a normal day in his whole life. All he was after was to be like any other boy at his school, he wanted to go hang out with his friends without having to worry about anything at all besides the N.E.W.T.s; he wanted to go on dates with girls - or, moreover, a certain girl.

He rolled over onto his stomach and peered out of the curtains on his four-poster. Ron was sleeping peacefully in his bed, snoring softly, but it could hardly be heard over Neville. Harry knew that Ron would kill him if he knew who and what Harry was thinking about - and he felt guilty, but at the same time, he didn't care. Ron, nor any of the Weasley's, could ever change the way he felt about Ginny.

She was perfect - he didn't know why he didn't see it before. He loved everything about her - her perfect smile, the way her eyes flashed angrily whenever she saw Malfoy, the perfect tint of gray in her dull green eyes, her beautiful laugh... how a single smile seemed to brighten the whole room, and a single tear brought everyone down....

He wished he could turn back time. Why couldn't he have realized how great Ginny was five years ago, when Ginny had loved him? Now Ginny was dating Dean, and had been for nearly two years now. Harry had no chance to win her heart back. He had tried countless times - subtly, of course. He was never as daring to blurt out his feelings for her. Ron wouldn't be the only one after his head if he did.

Harry felt sick to his stomach every time he saw Ginny and Dean together, which was incredibly often. Dean and Ginny had begun to get serious - Dean had come to the Burrow last Christmas and for a month out of the summer, and Ginny was going to his house this Christmas. Ron was sick of Dean too, but Harry still didn't want to tell Ron how much Dean irritated him now.

Dean shifted in his sleep, muttering something into his pillow. He had had dreams of Ginny the past three nights - Harry could hear him talking about her in his dreams, as he lay awake. This made Harry even more annoyed. Dean really cared about her, which made it completely frustrating - it was impossible to hate him, the way that he treated her.

Harry sighed as he rolled over onto his back again, peering through the crack in his curtain and watching the sun rise slowly over the Hogwarts grounds, preparing himself for yet another day without the love of his life.

The End.
