"Are you ready?" Hermione asked Willow. Her wand was out and she was holding an old sock in her other hand.

"Yeah, I'll just tell Giles."

Willow stood up and walked towards Giles' office. As she climbed up the stairs she saw Cordelia dozing off on one of the tables. Willow had sent her hand to the doorknob when the door opened. Giles' face was visible through a crack in the door.

"Yes, Willow?"

"I just wanted to tell you we were going to try the portkey now," she said, startled.

Hermione looked at them from her seat.

"Very well. Good luck," Giles said.

"Don't you want to come and supervise us?" Willow asked.

"I'm afraid Luna and I are on the verge of a breakthrough. And I don't think I'll be much help anyway," Giles answered with a smile.

"Okay then," Willow said, perplexed. Giles closed the door and Willow began to descend down the stairs. She thought Giles was a bit off. It was probably just stress. This whole situation... Willow had faced some big stuff before, but this time she felt they were out of their league. All of them. She sat next to Hermione.

"Let's see what this baby's got," Willow said.

Hermione raised her wand.

"Portus!" she called.

For a couple of seconds the sock trembled, as it glowed with a blue light. Then it was still again. "On the count of three," Hermione said.

"One, two, three..." Willow and Hermione touched the sock at the same time, and they both felt their navels being jerked as they disappeared from the library.

"Did you hear something?" Buffy said as she stopped Ron with her hand. For an innocent bystander it would look funny - a short blond girl trying to stop a tall muscular redhead by placing her palm on his chest. But both Ron and Buffy knew better. They had met a vampire on the way. There were a few seconds in which Ron pitied the vampire. However, when it clawed his arm and made Ron bleed, his sympathy was gone.

"They're here. It's Showtime." Buffy handed Ron a cross. "If you don't feel up to it, don't kill anything. Just don't get killed."

Ron gulped. He thought Buffy should have found more comforting words before they entered a life or death battle. Then a vampire jumped on Ron's back. Buffy turned to him only to be attacked from the back by another vampire. Instinctively she flipped him over and kicked him in the ribs. Satisfied, she heard one of them break. Ron was moving clumsily, trying to get away from the vampire still positioned on his back. Now, Ron might not be very resourceful, like Harry. He might not perform well under pressure, like Ginny. He might not have mastered many spells, like Hermione. However, as a result of his keeper training, he could beat any one of them in a fistfight. Even if he didn't know that. Now was the time to find out.

"Stupefy!" Harry yelled and began to move towards the vampires, much to the horror of Dean and Cho. He missed. Spike's grin widened.

"Well, aren't you the knight in shining armor," Spike said. He loved these moments. He preferred being attacked rather than being the attacker. It was more interesting.

Harry was literally running towards the vamps. He had already put fifteen feet between him and Dean and Cho, who, for some reason, walked away from the creatures who wanted to kill them.

"I don't care how many fights he won, they're going to kill him," Cho said, worried.

"I hope you can do real magic with that wand of yours," Dean said and held the stake tightly in his hand. "Cover me. I'll go get him."

Dean looked as if there was nothing he felt like doing less then what he just said he would. But Cho's half-pleading, half-expecting face convinced him that this was something he had to do.

Xander was biding his time. The light that came from the man's wand missed Xander by an inch. Xander decided to try and play dead.

"Accio wand!" Lucius said and Ginny's wand flew to his hand. Lucius stepped over Xander and moved towards Ginny. "You fought well against the vampires. I saw you. Very resourceful."

Ginny began to move backwards. She eyed the hallway behind her.

Empty.

Lucius grabbed her hair. He pulled her head backwards and up, towards his own. "Don't think the Dark Lord will stand for that kind of impudence."

Ginny looked Lucius in the eye. "Last time I saw Voldemort, he was a pimpled teen who probably couldn't convince a girl to date him for all the gold in Gringotts!"

Lucius shoved her away and she fell to the floor. "I'm surprised you even know what gold is," he snarled. Before he finished, Ginny began to run towards the library. She didn't get very far.

"Crucio!" Lucius called.

Years later, Ginny would not be able to describe what she felt at that moment. At the same time Ginny was aware of every little part of her body, yet she couldn't think or concentrate at anything. Every single square inch of her body screamed to her the same thing. Pain. Pure pain. Places she didn't know she could feel were aching. Yet her brain wasn't available enough to reason with her, to say that eventually the pain would be gone. She couldn't even concentrate long enough to wish it was gone.

Lucius laughed, without taking his eyes of her, without breaking his concentration. Xander heard Ginny's screams and knew this was the time to stand up. Xander crept up behind Lucius, holding his axe. For a second Xander was about to plunge the sharp blade into Lucius' back. However, he quickly understood that he couldn't bring himself to do that. Xander spun the axe so that the blunt side was facing Lucius. Xander swung the axe and hit Lucius in the head.

The pain stopped. Ginny lay sprawled on the floor, relishing her freedom. She saw Lucius fall forward. Xander held the axe threateningly above Lucius. Lucius wasn't scared. "Expelliarmus!"

The axe flew out of Xander's hand and Xander himself was shot across the room straight into a trophy showcase. Lucius turned to Ginny and summoned cords to bind her. Then he took a couple of steps toward Xander.

"Avada--" Lucius stopped mid-sentence, because he was hit in the face by a rather large handball trophy, courtesy of Xander.

"Oh my god!" Cordelia called in horror. She couldn't believe what she saw before her. When did this happen? Probably when she was asleep.

Her reflection in the mirror had flat hair and the faintest hint of bags beneath her eyes. Cordelia barely noticed Giles standing near her. She quickly stood up and began to walk towards the door. "I'll be right back," she told Giles, as she walked quickly past him and left the library before he could respond. A couple of minutes later, a girl screamed. Giles quickly ran out of the library.

Draco wished he was at Hogwarts. For the first time he actually regretted not studying better. No, he regretted not being more manipulative. If he had just applied himself a little, Draco knew he could have gotten Pansy to do some assignments for him that would boost his grades. Oh, well, water under the bridge. Draco needed to contact his father. Draco wasn't sure if he would be at Hogwarts or here, in L.A. His father didn't share all the details with him. Draco was grateful for it. All Draco needed was his half of the two-way mirror in his suitcase and he knew his father would send him home.

Draco entered Giles' street. He walked up to his house and tried to open the door. "Alohomora!" The lock clicked open. Draco opened the door and went to his suitcase. He quickly began to search it for the mirror. Draco did not notice the rat with a silver paw sitting under the couch, looking at him.

Ron was basically running around the cafeteria hoping that at some point the vampire on his back would give up and go home. Then another vampire jumped in front of him. Surprised, he jumped back - and slammed the vampire on him into the wall. When Ron moved away, the vampire that was on his back fell off him with a groan. Invigorated by his success, Ron turned on the second vampire. He put his cross in front of the vampire's face. The vampire backed away with a hiss. Ron quickly lunged forwards and punched the vampire in his face. The pain in his fist as he punched the vampire's jaw was one of the most satisfying things Ron ever felt. The vampire stumbled away from Ron. Ron pulled his wand out.

"Stupefy!" he said and the vampire fell to the ground.

Buffy staked the vampire she was fighting and turned to stake the vampire that had fallen off Ron.

The vampire Ron was fighting ran away. Buffy began to follow him.

"What are you doing?" Ron asked.

"Following him. He could lead us to the rest," Buffy.

"And why would we want to find the rest?" Ron asked Buffy as if he was talking to an infant.

"Because every creature of darkness that is fighting us, we know isn't out there trying to kill your little sister," Buffy answered.

"Off we go then," Ron said, reluctantly.

Harry was sending spells in all directions. Stunning spells, the Impedimenta curse - anything he could think of. After one Impedimenta curse hit one vampire and he began to move very slowly, the others learned to dodge Harry's hexes. His first hit became his last. Two vampires approached him. While one was eyeing Harry and keeping him busy, the other one crept behind him. The first vampire lunged at Harry. Instinctively the young wizard pointed his wand at the vamp's heart.

"Expelliarmus!" Harry commanded.

The vampire flew several yards down the hallway, until it hit a wall and fell to the floor. Meanwhile, the other vampire grabbed Harry from behind and held his hands. Harry couldn't perform any magic. Spike began to approach him.

Dean stopped running when a vampire stood in front of him, blocking his way. The vampire looked at Dean, sizing him up. Dean wrapped his left hand on his cross. The vampire lunged at him. Dean quickly moved aside, shoving the cross in the vampire's face. The vampire tripped and fell.

"Well that wasn't so hard," Dean said, relieved, a second before Drusilla punched him in the face and he fell to the floor.

Spike took the wand out of Harry's hand and examined it. "I bet you're a powerful little wizard where you come from. Biggest boy in the school. Nobody picks on you," Spike said as he toyed with the wand.

"Give me that," Harry said, fuming.

"Oh, all right then," Spike said sent his hand out to Harry. Harry tried to grab it, but his hands were being held by the other vampire. Spike smiled. "Changed your mind, then?"

Harry turned even angrier.

"Funny thing about magic," Spike mused as he continued to walk around Harry and the vampire, "you can be very very good at it, know all the best killing spells, but all of that ain't worth a bloody thing if you don't have your wand," Spike finished with a smug smile.

"You're a coward. Fight me when you don't have one of your cronies holding me," Harry said, his voice almost unrecognizable, due the burning anger in it.

"Well, aren't you gallant. Okay, kid, I'll give you your chance," Spike said. The vampire let go of Harry and threw him a couple of feet away from Spike. Then it walked towards Spike. Spike gave the vamp Harry's wand. "Take this to the library."

Harry stood up and walked towards Spike. He saw the vampire run off with his wand. Then it dawned on Harry that he had just requested a fight, to the death, against a vampire, with nothing but his fists to help him. Moody would not approve.

Spike put on his vampire face. "What's the matter? Lost your nerve?"

Cho never thought her heart could beat this fast. She saw the vampire attack Dean and she sighed in relief when she saw Dean avoid him. She decided not to draw attention to herself until she was absolutely needed. So far Dean was handling himself. Then the female vampire arrived. Dean fell to the floor. This was not good. Cho tried not to think what Harry had gotten himself into. She could barely see him. Meanwhile Dean stood up and put his cross between him and the female one. The vampire that first attacked Dean stood up and attacked Dean from behind.

Cho decided it was time to reveal herself. "Stupefy!" she yelled. A light shot out of her wand and the vampire was immediately paralyzed.

Dean heard Cho yell her curse. He used the millisecond Dru turned her face to the scream's source to attack her with the stake. Dru grabbed Dean's arm coolly and began squeezing. Dean dropped the stake.

"That's not very polite, Dearie," Dru said, in a reprimanding tone, as she pulled Dean's arm backwards, almost to the breaking point. She looked at the frozen vampire fall to the ground and she noticed the small black-haired girl standing down the hall. Dru turned to a vampire lurking near Spike and Harry. "Get the girl," she commanded. The vampire obliged and ran towards Cho.

Dean used the few moments his opponent was concentrating on Cho to think. Dean noticed they were standing next to a wall. Dean jumped and pushed the wall with all the might in his left leg. Dean and Dru lost their balance and fell to the floor. Dean immediately stood up and began to run. His first objective being to put as much distance possible between him and the vampire. Dru followed him.

"Impedimenta! Stupefy! Impedimenta!" Cho shouted as she tried to curse the vampire running towards her. He dodged all her hexes. Cho realized she was going to have to fight. She saw Dean's cross and stake lying on the floor. "Accio cross!" The cross zoomed to her. She was about to summon the stake as well, but the vampire had gotten too close. Cho ran away.

Only Spike, Harry, a stunned vampire and another one moving in slow motion remained in the hall.

"You know, I learned how to kill your kind," Harry said, managing to keep his voice cool.

"Oh, you read about vampires in a little book? I'm sure any second now you're going to impale me with your knowledge," Spike drawled casually.

"I am going to murder you. None of you are going to get anywhere near my friends," Harry said, his eyes burning.

Spike chuckled. He looked amused, like a child in front of his favorite toy. "Look around you. Your friends are gone. I've instructed the others to... Kill the spares," Spike smiled, "if only you could -"

Spike didn't finish his sentence, because Harry jumped at him in a fit of rage.

Xander held a trophy in each hand, as his golden arsenal lay on the floor next to him. He was throwing them at Lucius nonstop. Sometimes he hit, sometimes he missed, and sometimes Lucius would blast them in mid-air. Either way, they kept him from performing any kind of dangerous spells. And then Xander relaxed. He got his break.

Giles was running towards them.

"Giles! Get Ginny!" Xander yelled at the top of his voice as he threw another trophy at Lucius, "Ginny, it's okay! Giles will take care of you!"

Giles quickly ran and released the cords tying Ginny's hand.

Xander saw that he only had three trophies left. He was actually going to try and aim from now on.

Giles helped Ginny stand up. "Well done, Xander, I knew I could rely on you!"

Xander froze. He looked at Giles incredulously. Did Giles just state his confidence in him? In Xander? Then another thought found it's way to Xander's stressed mind: why is the evil person trying to kill them not doing anything to stop Giles from taking away Ginny? Comprehension dawned on Xander.

"No! Ginny! Don't go! Stay here!" Xander ducked in the nick of time from a green light coming from Lucius' wand.

Ginny was barely aware to what was going on around her. Everything was in a haze. It was taking her senses time to recover from the torture they were subjected to. She felt someone helping her stand up, mumbling words in a reassuring tone. She could hear Xander calling her name but she didn't hear what he was saying. Giles ushered Ginny away from the hall, towards the library.

Xander realized he had to end this fight. He had only two trophies left. He held each in one hand and after he dodged another hex, he began to run towards Lucius.

Lucius stopped firing. He concentrated hard on the boy coming towards him. He aimed his wand. "Avade Kedavra!" he called.

Xander saw the green light flying towards him, without thinking he threw one of his trophies forward - the spell collided with the trophy and blasted it into a hundred tiny pieces. Xander hastened his pace and reached Lucius before the latter could perform another spell. In one swift strike Xander smashed the trophy into the surprised face of Lucius Malfoy. After a few more successful strikes, Lucius fell on the ground, unconscious.

"Ginny!" Xander called and darted down the corridor Giles took her.

Draco was rummaging his suitcase, searching for the mirror his father gave him.

"Looking for something, Draco?" Peter Pettigrew asked in a calm voice.

Draco recognized the voice at once. This was going to be fun.

"Hello Peter, how are you? Did father send you here to get me?" Draco asked.

Peter smiled. "Oh no. I'm afraid I am going to have to ask you to leave. Now," Peter asked, trying to sound important.

"Now, now, Peter. I'm not sure father would approve of you using that tone with me," Draco said, shaking his index finger in a reprimanding way.

Peter's grin grew even wider. Almost unnaturally wide. "I'm afraid even your father can't help you in this area, my boy."

Draco was very amused. "Say, Peter, how much did the spine transplant cost you?"

"I am also afraid," Peter continued, "that if you will not leave soon, I will have to kill you."

Draco couldn't help it anymore. He burst in laughter.

"You? Wormtail? Kill the son of Lucius Malfoy?" Draco managed to say between giggles.

Wormtail smile faded. "I am here on orders from The Dark Lord himself, to kill anyone, even Lucius Malfoy, if he tries to go up the stairs," Peter said.

Draco smiled. He had forgotten how stupid Peter was. However, since Peter seemed to be serious, Draco decided not to laugh. "What are you guarding, Peter? Did The Dark Lord ask you to protect his chocolate frogs? Because I heard that is a very prestigious job," Draco drawled. The reddish hue taking over Peter's face was most satisfying. Peter walked to Malfoy. Not the most impressive thing, as Malfoy was taller than him by almost a head.

"I suggest you shut your mouth, boy, if you want to live," Peter said, his authority beginning to fracture.

"Now, now Peter. Wouldn't want anything like that. After all I always did draw faster than you. Wouldn't want to see you get hurt," Draco said, a smug smile crawling across his face.

In less than a second, Peter's metallic fist closed on Draco's throat and he lifted the boy in the air. "You'll find, Draco, that I have changed a little since the last time you saw me," Peter sputtered, his face becoming redder with each word. Without the slightest effort, he flung Draco across the room.

Hermione and Willow materialized in a corridor in one of the higher floors of the Hogwarts castle. There was absolute silence. Hermione looked around, apprehensive.

"Did it work?" Willow asked enthusiastically.

"Yeah," Hermione answered, as she continued to search her surroundings.

"What's the matter?" Willow asked.

"It's too quiet for this hour of day," Hermione answered.

There was a swish of cloaks. Hermione turned around. She heard human sounds.

"Come on," she said and began to walk towards the source of the voices. She motioned Willow to follow.

"From here!" one voice whispered. Hermione did not recognize the voice.

Macnair and Snape entered the hallway. They were wearing black cloaks, but without a left sleeve. You could see the black mark shining on their left arms.

"Run, Willow," Hermione said and grabbed her arms as she darted off to the other side of the hall.
