- Hey guys, just throwing this chapter in to see what you think. Review for me and tell me what you think so I have motive to finish. Yep, so...I'd recommend reading "Only Skin Deep" first. It would help, but, you could also just read this first and be fine. So, Enjoy!
It had been years since dark had reigned over the wizarding world. Harry Potter's defeat of Voldemort was legendary. Though he had died during the battle, it had been to save the lives of thousands of others. Yet, one man wished it still was how it had been.
Draco Malfoy stood looking over the upstairs landing. His children sat downstairs with Rosa, the nanny. Sighing, he turned away. He couldn't watch his children for very long anymore. All of their eyes shined brightly like their mother's.
He went to head to his bedroom, but a voice caught his ears.
"Dad, aren't you coming down?" He looked down at the short blonde girl coming up to him. She wrapped her arms around his legs.
"Sam, I wish I could," he began, trying to slip away from her. His youngest daughter tugged at his heartstrings. "Alright, but only for a little while." He took her small hand and went down by the family.
"Master Malfoy, what a pleasant surprise," Rosa smiled, getting up. "What can I help you with?"
"Nothing. I'm just coming to sit with the boys and Sam."
"Oh, alright." Draco sat on his favorite blue couch. Rosa fluttered about, fussing over the boys. Sam sat at his feet flipping through a family photo album. She had been on the same picture for awhile.
"Who's this?" she asked, pointing to one of the many moving pictures. Draco took the book and glanced down at the one she was suggesting. His cool gray eyes stared back at him, but they were happy.
Then, he spotted why. A dark haired pregnant woman stood near him. In the picture, he pulled her under his arm and she smiled.
"That's mum. Remember when I showed you before?" he asked, handing the book back. She studied the face and shook her head.
"No I don't," she said sadly.
Draco sighed. He didn't think his little daughter would remember. She had only been a baby when their mother had been killed.
"Sam, why don't you come with me and we'll play with Emma upstairs," Niles said, picking up his sister's doll and trying to coax her with him.
"No," she grumbled, clutching to her dad's leg. "I'm staying here." Sam looked up at her dad with her soft sea green eyes. "Did I like Mummy when she was alive?"
Draco hesitated before he answered. "Yes, but she was only around you for a brief while." She looked so saddened by his words. "But, we all love you," he comforted, as she sat down next to him.
"What was she like?" Sam asked in her quiet voice. Hmm, how to explain Emily. She was hard to put into words.
"Well, she was very loving and cared for all of you a whole lot." Draco got up and headed back for the stairs. "Oliver, make sure Sam gets to bed, okay?" he called over his shoulder. He stepped up a couple stairs but Sam's voice made him stop.
"Oliver, can you tell me what happened to Mum?" she asked as Oliver picked her up in his arms.
"Sam, I don't think we need to be talking about that right now." Draco came back into the room.
"I'll take her," he grumbled, getting her from Oliver. Draco carried her up the stone stairs and into her mint green bedroom.
"Dad, why can't Oliver tell me what happened?" she whined loudly.
"Maybe one day, we'll tell you. But not until you're older." Sam pouted. "No, don't give me that."
"I'll take it from here," Rosa said coming to the door. "Good night, Master Malfoy." Draco kissed Sam on the top of the head and retreated to his room. A blank notebook taunted him as he walked by it. He had been meaning to write down the whole story so Sam could read it one day. He snatched the black book from the dresser and grabbed his quill. Flipping to the first page, he drew a blank. Where did one start when recording something such as this? He began to scribble down a few words.
Suddenly, with a burst in his mind, all of the memories came rushing back. He hoped his quill could keep up.....
