Divine Intervention

Part 1:

"Today will be an unusual lesson for Defense against the Dark Arts," said Prof. Bill Weasley to his class of Sixth Years. "It will be in conjunction with your next Care of Magical Creatures class with Hagrid."

The sixth year Gryffindors and Slytherins were all gathered outside of Hagrid's hut as they were all instructed to do earlier at Breakfast in the Great Hall. Bill watched his students, which included his younger brother Ron and his best friends Hermione Granger and Harry Potter, and saw the subtle, but undeniable animosity between the two houses. The enmity was especially terrible and thick with Harry and Draco Malfoy, both sending each other glares of hatred enough to ignite the entire forest into ashes. Not surprising since they were famous in Hogwarts for a rivalry as volatile as Salazar Slytherin against Godric Gryffindor.

"Now, the reason why we are all here is that I think our guests wouldn't appreciate the small space in the classroom since they are winged and majestic in their full glory under the sun." Bill looked at Hagrid, who was using a flute to call their visitors, and they smiled at each other. "It was fortunate that they're even here at Hogwarts at all. Hagrid happened to come across them yesterday while he was tending to the needs of some Pegasi that he was planning to show you all in your next lesson. Speaking of lessons, because this class isn't in your schedule, you all will be having free periods on your next class in both subjects."

When they heard 'free period' everyone cheered, but Hermione groaned in dismay. Bill chuckled and waved the students to calm down.

"Just remember that there will be a test about our guests in both subjects on the latter part of the week." Now it was everyone else's turn to groan and Hermione cheered. "Now, what can you guys tell us about Angels?"

A few of the Slytherins laughed. The Gryffindors frowned.

"Don't tell me that you dragged all of us out here so you could talk about a myth," said Draco with his trademark smirk.

"On the contrary, Mr. Malfoy," Bill started. "Angels are very real. Now, tell me what you people know about them and I will tell you whether they are true or not. Go ahead; tell me what you know while Hagrid calls for them."

"Are they little babies with wings on their backs?" asked Lavender Brown, to which Millicent Bulstrode giggled horrendously.

"Don't they have haloes and personal lighting?" commented Blaise Zabini cheekily. The Slytherins all chuckled.

Some of the Gryffindors gave them dirty expressions. "They all play harps and horns, right?" said Seamus Finnigan.

"And how about those love arrows that they shoot, are they 'real'?" questioned Draco. Bill heard the quotation marks on that last word.

"Well, to answer these questions in order. Yes, they are actually baby angels called Cherubs. No, because that was just an influence from the vivid imagination of religious muggles. Yes, sometimes. And no, how that came about, no one really knows."

Bill looked up as the sun was suddenly blocked from above. "It seems our esteemed guests are fast approaching. Look up everyone."

Everyone, even the Slytherins, was at awe when two winged beings flew closer to them, showing their wide feathered wings and their amazingly sculpted bodies. The one on the right had straight blond hair, pale skin, and wore black leather pants and no shirt. He had eyes of icy blue that seemed to glow even in the shadow. His partner had tanned skin and had midnight black hair that fell down in ringlets. He sported deep green eyes that seared the soul and wore faded jeans and like his partner, he was shirtless. The quality of their beauty was breathtaking and a little frightening. As they landed on the ground, the breath that the student held back was exhaled.

Hagrid nodded, completely expecting this kind of reaction. "Ever'one, I'd like tah introduce tah yah Shakespeare n' Ulysses," he said in his usual booming tone. Shakespeare, tucking in his white wings, smiled and bowed rather theatrically. Ulysses, statuesque and regal, bowed slightly and mesmerized the group with the depths of his green gaze. His wings were black, like his hair.

"As like human beings, Angels have many races and characteristics. They have been part of legends and myth in both muggle and wizard lore. There have been many misconceptions about them like them being made of pure spiritual force. Angels are made of matter like everything else in this world," explained Bill as the pair of Angels sat down and flexed their wings, one smiling like the world was always happy and the other expressionless like a mask. "To the point, Angels are powerful wielders of magic. They are nearly omnipotent and usually travel in large groups called circles. They normally don't like to deal with wizard politics and often find it distasteful, but they have been known to befriend and influence certain people, making them favorites and friends for life. Depending on which angel, they act like emotional and spiritual barometers, often making people understand their feelings and their inner turmoil, like a sifter to one's conscience." He came close to Shakespeare who gave him a cheeky wink, making him chuckle. "Shakespeare is part of a circle of Angels known as the Serra. They are a class of warriors that prize bravery and glory above most things."

"So they're a bunch of Gryffindors?" said Blaise, making the rest of the Slytherins laugh.

Bill ignored the comment and approached Ulysses, who got a pack of cigarettes from his back pocket and lit it up with his thumb. "Ulysses here is part of a circle called the 'Fallen'. They are the ones that started the concept of Fallen Angels, but there is some truth behind what muggles place about their origins. This will be your assignment. Fallen Angels are not necessarily dark creatures but their history has some root to it. I want all of you to do a four-foot essay detailing some of their history and what they can do, over than what I just told you. Like I said earlier, a quiz will be done this Friday on Angels in general and some specifics about the Serra and the Fallen."

Giving way to Hagrid, Bill stepped aside. "As f'r yer Care for Magical Creatures assignments, I wan' yah tah giv me basic physiology n' a list of the'r magical properties on a four-foot parchment. Add'd points will beh giv'n if yah can write down why the'r emotional n' spiritual baromet'rs. We won't hav' time tah talk tah them n'w, but they will beh here all week at Professor Dumbledore's request. The quiz 'm giving will beh based on yer interact'n wit' them all week so make sure tah giv some time tah talk tah them."

He then turned to the angels. "Okay, we'r done n'w. We'll beh see'n yah latah."

Shakespeare smiled and disappeared in a blink, as if he wasn't there before. The cigarette that Ulysses was smoking was thrown to the ground and stomped on before he transfigured himself into a raven and flew away.

Gathering the students, Bill walked them all back to the castle and waved goodbye at the half-giant. All the while, Draco and Harry glared at each other, as if the next word each one might say was a declaration of war.

For some reason, Bill was glad that his tenure as the Defense Against the Dark Arts was almost over. In two months, he would be back in his job as a Curse-Breaker for Gringotts and he'll be back in Egypt for another dig.

"Are you sure, Shakey?" asked Ulysses who landed on one of the parapets where Shakespeare was perched, and transformed back to his original form. "Are you sure that they are the ones we are searching for?"

The Serra gave him an annoyed look. "Don't call me that stupid nickname, you prat! And yes, I'm sure that those two are the ones that our oracles have been having visions about lately. They did say to look out for one boy with eyes that are as green as a windy field in Ireland and another with eyes that hold a gray storm in them. They already have a connection, but not one that is favorable to future endeavors." He frowned as he watched the group of students enter the castle with Harry and Draco giving each other dirty looks.

Ulysses sat down and preened his fingernails with a dagger that he summoned up. "Dumbledore knows of our mission and he will not interfere unless it is warranted."

"I think he knows why we are here. Nothing gets by that human. If anything, I think he wants us to do our jobs. Many things are mentioned about Harry Potter and quite a few about Draco Malfoy in their world. Two strong wizards in training by their own right, but imagine if such power is harnessed properly," said Shakespeare.

"Yes, it would shake the foundations of this world, especially if they bonded." He transfigured the dagger into a cigarette and lit it up. He then puffed out a billowing fog of blue smoke. "The Council of Circles can't expect us to watch over these two. They are too set in their ways. Potter is too paranoid, especially after Voldemort's resurrection and that incident in the Ministry. Malfoy is too blind because of all of the propaganda fed to him since he was a child. If we are to help along the prophecy, we need to do some heavy duty interfering."

Shakespeare smirked. "You forget. We are Angels. Interfering is our way of life. How else do you think we survive living as long as we do? If we kept to ourselves, we would have all committed mass suicide and killed off our species a long time ago."

Sighing to the heavens, Ulysses blew another breath of smoke. "So basically, we have to 'play' at being their teachers so they could at least form some kind of alliance. Turn them into Padawans and show them their potential in using the 'Force'."

"That's the plan. Now, who do you want to watch over?"

"Hmm. After some thought, I think I'll go with that Malfoy kid. It's going to be fun screwing with his head."

The Serra sighed. "Such a mean attitude. Then Potter will go under my charge."

"Right then." Ulysses stood up and flicked the left over nub away. "I'll just pop on over to where Malfoy is and insert myself into his life."

"Like junk mail and credit card bills," replied Shakespeare. "I'll insinuate myself into Potter's routine a little later. I think a small chat with Dumbledore will do wonders for what I'm planning."

Both Angels grinned and disappeared in a blink.
