Chapter 3

Jessica had no idea what to do. She ran inside, searching for some letter or explanation; something that would tell her what to do. But she found nothing. Her mother had always feared this, and when it became known that the Dark Lord was back, Katrina had become even more cautious. She'd warned her daughter more than once that the Dark Lord's supporters were nearly as dangerous as the man himself.

But warnings and training had gotten the girl nowhere. She thought desperately of where she could go. She didn't trust the school or the Wizarding government, their incompetence was far too obvious. No Witch or Wizard would take her in, and she most certainly wasn't safe here. This left the immortal territory.

Immortal Territory was known of by many humans, but its powerful aura kept most mortals away. Jessica was only half mortal, and she could still battle a fairly weak Vampire or Necromancer. But the weaker places would not be enough to keep her safe.

New Haven: The most powerful Vampiric town in the country. If she could keep herself alive long enough, without being killed, or bound to a Vampire, she could manage there until she found a place to go. If.

Jessica shuddered. Not even a full blood siren would dare enter New Haven; it was suicide. But staying here would be suicide as well. So Jessica painted her long nails black, put on dark makeup and bright red lipstick, (which made her look remarkably vampiric anyways) and put on her mother's black dress, netted in a shimmery red fabric that was hardly created by a human. In fact, it was fairy cloth.

Again, Jessica shuddered. Most people took for granted the power of the beautiful creatures. Yet, if you got close enough, their delicate beauty would be replaced by some of the most horrid forms. She pitied Humans, who were such defenseless creatures. She shook her head ad walked by the hall mirror. The quick glance made her double back.

Never in her life had she looked more like a Siren than as she stepped into the Streets of New Haven. Her long, dark red curls and the seductive dress made her look twenty-six, rather than sixteen. She opened the door to the nightclub Filia Lunea, and was thrown to the ground.

Micheal knew he wasn't the only Vampire to sense the intruder; he was just the only one pissed off enough to care. Now, though, he realized why no one had objected yet to the strange aura that had flooded New Haven almost instantly.

Siren! he hissed in his mind. The woman grinned.

Were you expecting a werewolf? She lashed out with her mind, sending the Vampire into one of the mirrored walls. She quickly clamped down on her mind, so as not to give him the opportunity to destroy her from the inside out. She moved slowly, lingualy, as though she had really shut her brain down. But she saw everything, and Micheal knew it.

A playful hum danced in the air and Micheal cursed. The Siren was a fighter, and as her sleeve had moved briefly to reveal a wand, he knew she was a witch.

You can battle it out here, one Siren versus Ten Vampires and their human servants, or we could go outside and talk. he suggested lazily. They both knew she didn't have much of a choice. She followed him outside, still on the defensive.

In the light, Micheal noticed, she was probably only about fifteen or sixteen years old, though she fought as though she were a hundred years old. He sighed.

"You can drop your guard long enough to listen, I won't bite." he laughed at the joke. Then, serious again, "I know you're a witch." The girl laughed bitterly.

"And I'm guessing you're a Wizard?" He stared at her for a second. Her voice was so clear after just nearly having the blood drained from her body. Micheal wondered what a Siren's blood tasted like. Was it sweet?

"What is a Witch, not to mention a Siren doing in New Haven just before midnight, when you know full well it is the killing hour?" She didn't respond, but stared coldly into his eyes. Her own grey eyes made him shiver.

"What does it matter to you?" she said, her voice now as crisp as ice. He smiled.

"Because you know damn well that I can and will kill you unless you have a reason to be outside of Siren or Human territory." He smirked. He had her there and she knew it. She looked at first as though she wouldn't answer, then she began, slowly, cautiously.

"My Mother, Katrina Thornrose, was just killed today, presumably by Voldemort and his followers. Apparently, they know I'm a Siren, and the Dark Lord and even his followers have been...pursuing my services for years. His patience has grown thin, and ironically, this is the safest place for me." He looked down. So that's where Lucius Malfoy had gone. He thought quickly.

"It's not safe for you to be here, but if you trust me, I know a few places that might be okay." She stared at him.

"You're expecting me to trust a Vampire?" But he gave her a look that once again told her that she didn't have much choice. She sighed and he laughed.

You're the one who walked into Blood City.

"By the way, I'm Jessica Lupin." He froze, suddenly knowing exactly who to take her to. He grinned as he noticed she'd kept her mind blocked, still fearing his entrance into the tempting territory.

"I'm Micheal; Micheal Snape."
