Teardrops

Chapter 1

Hermione sat alone, crying in the Head Girl AND Boy Common Room. She had been named Head Girl at the start of term, as well as Harry being made Head Boy.

Harry. That was the reason she was sitting here. Alone. Crying. In THEIR Common Room.

He had long since retreated to his dormitory after rushing through the door not responding to her questions as he ran past. She wished he would come back.

She didn't know how many smiles she'd had to fake today whenever he spoke of Ginny. It was true that she loved Harry, and she felt he didn't feel the same way. But, she wanted him to be happy. If Ginny being his girlfriend gave him that happiness, then she'd let him be. Ginny would have everything that she wanted and have to live without.

Hermione had loved him a long time, ever since she'd realized the true burning love for him around Fifth Year.

She found herself willing to go wherever he went, to accompany him everywhere, just to be with him and make sure he was safe, no matter what the risk was.

She had to follow him into Umbridge's office when he wanted to talk to Sirius to make sure he didn't get caught. She wanted to protect him in the Department of Mysteries. When he ran into that empty room to escape the Death Eaters, she was right behind him. She wished she could have been there for him when Sirius died so she could comfort him. It was as if she was magnetically attracted to him, mentally and physically. She had a need to see his face everyday.

She wanted to tell him how much she loved him tonight when he walked in...yet he seemed to busy to stop and talk to her. She had to tell him even if he didn't return her feelings.

One thing holding her back from telling her sooner was that he was dating Ginny and she knew he loved her. She could tell by the way he talked about her. Hermione would have to learn to move on and try to forget about him. Though she knew in her heart that no matter how hard she tried, she'd never be able to do so.

Harry lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, memorizing the pattern. He and Ginny had just broken up, and he felt rather empty inside. Ginny was the one to break off their relationship, she had said something about him being to secure and worried about her...a lot like she had told Dean Thomas last year.

Ginny was determined to help him in his quest to destroy Voldemort. He however stood his ground and refused to let her come. She protested that he was letting Hermione come...but he told her that he couldn't stop Hermione from coming.

***Flashback***

"Harry, I need you to understand that I want to help you with this!" Ginny said.

"Ginny, you don't know what this is like, what IT'S like. Out there. In combat. Watching ones you love fall in battle. I can't put you in that position."

"But you are letting Ron and Hermione go!!"

"They are almost of age and my best friends...I can't stop them from going."

"So you'd rather take Hermione than me?"

"Ginny, this isn't some vacation cruise that we're talking about here. This is dangerous!"

"Harry James Potter, if you can't learn to stop sheltering me so much, then we are through! I can take care of myself...you know that!"

"Ginny, I can't let you come with me...I hope someday you can understan..."

She cut him off and said "Goodbye Harry."

***End Flashback***

Unfortunately, she couldn't understand.

Harry rose from his bed and went into the bathroom to look in the mirror. He tried half-heartedly to make his hair lie flat, but to no avail. He decided to go down to his and Hermione's Common Room to warm up a bit by the fire and maybe talk to Hermione about what happened.

As he slowly descended the steps, he began to realize why Ginny and his relationship didn't work out. First of all, he had noticed that she had been staring at Draco Malfoy quite a bit the past few weeks.

He questioned her about it once to see what was going on. She had said that she was mad at Draco because he had insulted her while she was standing outside of Potions the other day. He had just brushed it off then...but now he wasn't so sure. He should have realized when she called him Draco...

Also, during Fourth Year when his name came out of the Goblet of Fire, she didn't tell him that she believed he didn't put his name in the Goblet. She didn't help him prepare for the tasks. The only one that did that was...
