- Yeah, the begining is a little abrupt, but the story will develop, I promise!
"You may not find this relevant, you may think it's but a lie,
But I was there when it happened. I was on the guy!
On the fateful day it came about, the day the founders met,
I was there as they showed their strengths,
The day the group was set.
Sir Gryffindor had a child; a dimwitted boy was he.
He had a lack of brains, and much curiosity.
He stumbled upon a dragon, and sleeping there it lay,
A foolhardy boy was he, for he tickled the dragon that day!
The lad then ran through the forest, a furious dragon on his tail,
He ran up to his father with a face that was milky pale,
"Father, I've woken the dragon! I don't know what to do!
He chased me for a bit, but then up away he flew!
The dragon flew to Hogsmeade, and there it may lay waste,
Father, we need to save them, and we must do so with much haste!"
Brave Godric wasn't frightened, and not a foolish man was he;
So off he set to Londinium, the wisest of men he seeked.
There he found wise Ravenclaw, the smartest of the smart.
He called upon her leafy glen and appealed much to her heart.
"Wise Rowena, I call upon you, will you help my foolish son?
He tickled the sleeping dragon, and without you my village is done!"
Said Rowena, "I will try to aide you, but first I need a hand;
Apparate to Ireland, and call upon this man.
His name Is Salazaar Slytherin, a cunning man is he,
And while I do have the brains, I may need him to help me."
So Godric left her scheming, and to Ireland he went,
And called upon the dampest fen, with a deep and peaty scent.
"Proud Slytherin, we beseech you, I call to you in need
Rowena sent me to find you; we need a man of your breed.
We need your sly intelligence, your bravely cunning mind,
And if you choose to help us, we will repay in kind."
With that Godric bowed his head, and leaned down on his knee.
And kind faced well-bred Slytherin looked at him said with glee;
"I can help you impressive traveler, and do so without pain,
But someday I may need you, after this dragon is slain."
Godric agreed without an issue, they then apparated away,
They arrived back in a hurry, and raced to Rowena without delay.
Said Slytherin to Rowena, "A plan I almost have here,
But your wit is needed much to help, so you I need to steer.
I need to find a person who can help me gather the hordes,
For no plan is complete without people for me to overlord."
Said intelligent Ravenclaw, "I just may have a friend,
She has the gift to gather loyal crowds, if that will help your end.
I think I see your plan, and cunning it may be,
But you need more to incite them, and I can fix that, see?"
She then threw sand in her fire, and yelled out "Hufflepuff!"
And after a nervous minute, the fire produced blonde fluff.
"Helga at your service!" chirped the cheery blonde girl with a grin.
A Welsh beauty of great stature whom had no hearts left to win
Every person that she knew would flock to her noble side
She never had a foe or friend who wouldn't bow to her with pride.
She agreed to gather the masses, said she'd do it with much joy,
And with that she left with a little grin, and a wink tipped to the boys.
A couple minutes later, the four were together at last,
And together they formed a crew to fill any comedy's cast.
With Hufflepuff's people gathered, they had a horde to launch a noble attack,
Plotted by Rowena, and led by Slytherin, with Godric as leader of the pack.
They took down the angry dragon, and sated him to sleep,
And after that fateful moment they had a friendship true and deep.
This is how it came about, with the people of Hogsmeade left hearty and hale
The townspeople were grateful to the four, never knowing the truth of the tale
That without Gryffindor's foolish son it would never have come about
But we must all be very grateful to the dull-headed lout.
For without his actions it would have been bad, they might not have formed this school,
And if that were the case and we weren't here, we may all have turned out like that fool!"
And with that, the hat ended its song, leaving the Great Hall in stunned silence, that is except (Of course!) for Albus Dumbledore, who stood up and began to cheer.
"Bravo! Oh, very well done, what an impressive song!" he called out, as the other teachers slowly joined him at the head table.
Down at the Gryffindor table, Neville Longbottom turned to Ginny Weasley with a confused look on his face.
"Ginny, I'm confused. What does that all have to do with sorting into houses? I mean, how does that show who the founders were?"
Ginny giggled in response. Had she any knowledge of the events to follow, of the repercussions of the hat's song, it is doubtful she would have taken the poor confused boy's question so lightly. However, we often go through life with no knowledge of the things yet to come, and those who do have the power, as you soon shall see, don't always pay heed. Ginny turned to Colin Creevey, and whispered in his ear. He grinned back and they both burst out into gales of laughter, to poor Neville's dismay.
"What? Seriously guys... What's so funny?" Neville shook his head, and went back to his meal. Across the Great Hall, a pair of watchful eyes took the scene in, and smirked. As far as he was concerned, it was going to be an interesting year.
Author notes: I'm so proud of that sorting hat song... please
tell me how much you loved it too... hint hint..
