Prologue

July 992 AD, Northern UK

"Godric Gryffindor, will you take Helga Hufflepuff as your wife?" said solemnly Salazar Slytherin.

"I do," replied Godric Gryffindor.

"And you, Helga Hufflepuff, would you take Godric Gryffindor as your husband?" asked Salazar as solemnly.

"I do," said Helga , blinded by tears of happiness, threatening to ruin her beautiful face.

A few meters away, Ra Ravenclaw was walking towards them, carrying the two wedding rings. These rings were in no way ordinary: the shining diamonds weren't transparent but creamy-blue. Godric and Helga exchanged the rings and a passionate kiss. On the moment, time seemed to be frozen; the diamond rings were glowing as Godric Gryffindor and Helga Hufflepuff's powers were fused together.

Centuries went on and passed by. Although Godric Gryffindor and Helga Hufflepuff had five children, their Heirs and Heiresses were often killed before they could even attend Hogwarts. In the end, there was only one family of Heirs alive. They kept the traditions of giving the creamy-blue diamond at their engagement. They also keep brewing difficult potions from Helga Hufflepuff's Potions Record (a book in which the pages were bewitched so every new concoction discovered was added), practiced Godric Gryffindor's most ancient and powerful spells. Heirs and Heiresses last names were chosen depending on the Hogwarts House they were sorted into.

Chapter 1

September 1st 1971, England

"Emiliana!" shouted Alberto Hufflepuff throughout the huge manor. "Hurry up, we're going to be late and you'll miss the train!"

"Comin'," replied a slightly tired but excited eleven-year-old girl. Emiliana, Heiress of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, was about to start her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was very pretty for age with her blonde hair, grey-blue eyes, her beautiful smile and her body already looked like a woman's. That girl was, for the least, very proud of her heritage, which could annoy some people. Though, her family and herself had nothing against no one, pure-blood, half-blood, Muggle-born, Muggle or Squib.

An hour later, at King's Cross Station, Emiliana and her parents, Alberto and Angelica were waiting for a large group of Muggles to move away before passing through the barrier that lead to platform nine and three-quarters. At the moment Eiana was grabbing her trunk to crosse the barrier, she heard a girl ask her parents: "Mom, Dad, what's platform nine and three-quarters?"

"She must be Muggle-born," thought Emiliana. "I'll go help her!" And she walked towards the dark-red-haired girl. "Hi!" said the heiress casually, "Need some help?"

The Muggle-born girl stared at her in surprise with her superb emerald-green eyes.

"Actually, yes, I do need help. Do you know where's platform nine and three-quarters?"

"Are you a first-year at Hogwarts?"

"Erm...yes," replied the lost girl.

"Cool! So am I. All you have to do is run through the barrier between platforms nine and ten."

"What? Through the barrier?"

"Yeah! Just close your eyes if you're scared..."

"Erm...okay!"

Once the girls waved good bye to their parents and were safe on platform nine and three-quarters, they got in the train and managed to find a compartment for themselves.

"So," finally said Emiliana, "what's your name?"

"Lily. And yours?"

"Emiliana. I suppose you're Muggle-born?"

"Muggle?"

"Non-magic people."

"Oh, yes, I'm Muggle-born. I guess you come from an old wizarding family, you seem to know a lot more than I do."

"Yes..."

"AHHHHHHH!" screamed Lily and Emiliana together.

Four boys, coming from nowhere, burst suddenly into the girls' compartment.

"Yo ladies!" said a thin boy with hazel eyes and very messy black hair.

"Good day to you girls," said another boy, a really handsome one, with deep dark-blue eyes and shoulder-lengh black hair. "My name is Black. Sirius Black. And he is Jamie. Ouch! Sorry, James Potter!" the boy added, pointing to the messy-haired boy.

"You're not doing that trick on more people, are you?" said a third boy with blond hair. He turned to Lily and Emiliana. "Please excuse them. By the way, I'm Remus Lupin."

"And I'm Peter Pettigrew," cried out a well-nourished boy, as though he was afraid he'd be forgotten.

"So," paused James, "what are YOUR names?"

"I'm Lily Evans."

"And I'm Emiliana."

"Evans? I don't know any Evans..." said Sirius.

"I'm Muggle-born," explained Lily quickly.

"I see. And what's your last name... Emiliana?" he asked smiling.

"Erm... I don't know yet."

"How can you not know that?" asked James loudly.

"I'm Heiress of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff," said Emiliana, failing to look modest. "My last name will be the name of the House I'll be sorted into."

"Oh!!! You must be a great witch, then!" said Remus, getting interested in the conversation.

"Heiress of what?" asked Lily confused. "What do you mean, houses?"

"The first-years are sorted in the four different Hogwarts Houses," James explained slowly so Lily could understand.

"Slytherin the cunning, Hufflepuff the true, Gryffindor the brave and Ravenclaw the smart," continued Sirius.

"The Houses are named after the founders," finished Emiliana.

"That means you're the Heiress of two of the founders?" asked an impressed Lily.

"Yeah," said Emiliana wryly. She didn't want to look snobbish in front of her friend though she didn't give a damn about the boys except...

The boys left the compartment to meet other people but left their trunks in the compartment to Emiliana's pleasure because they would have to come back. HE would come back. What would her family think of them? What does Lily think of them?

"What do you think of them?" Lily voiced out loud Emiliana's question.

"They're idiots!" said Emiliana mechanically.

"It's true, they're a bunch of show-offs...except that Remus guy, and he seems really nice."

"I agree with you Lil'. What about the plumpy one?"

"Peter? He seems nice too...but he doesn't do much, does he?"

"Nope. But that Sirius guy looks good, really!"

"He's not bad, but he's not amazing either..."

"I think we're almost there," said Emiliana suddenly, wishing to change the subject, "we better change into our robes!"

"How do you know? What's that village?" asked Lily, again feeling like an idiot, not knowing anything about the wizarding world.

"That's Hogsmeade, an only-wizarding village."

"Oh! Let's change quick before the boys come back."

After a quick change and the boys' visit to get their trunks, the students got out of the train. "Firs'-years, come 'ere," called out loud a giant man with tangly black hair and beard. The ickle firsties all got four by four in small boats to sail across the lake to reach the Hogwarts grounds. Emiliana and Lily traveled with a tall girl with a wavy brown hair named Melvina, and a boy called Ken who didn't seem to like talking much. Once they hit the shore, the man, or rather the giant lead the first-years to the wonderful castle ofgwarts. He opened the large doors and shouted: "The first-years are here, Professor McGonagall!"

A strict-looking witch, whose hair was tied up in a tight bun, walked down the marble staircase towards the new students. "I'm Professor McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress of the school. Welcome to Hogwarts. The Sorting will begin soon. When I'll call your names, you'll come up and sit on that stool and put the Hat on your head. It will tell you which House is the best for each of you."

"Em," muttered Lily, panicking, "what if we're not sorted in the same house?"

"Don't worry, Lil', at the worst point we'll still talk to each other between classes and at meal times. But I do hope we're together..." said Emiliana, trying to calm herself down at the same time.

"Silence, now!" said Professor McGonagall impatiently. "The Sorting is beginning."

"Avery, Graham."

The little, but mean-looking boy walked up to the Sorting Hat and put it on. A few seconds later, the Hat shouted: "SLYTHERIN!"

"Barrymore, Drew."

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Betts, Freddy."

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Black, Bellatrix."

A girl with a thick, black hair got to her feet and before going to the Sorting Hat, she threw a snobbish, dirty look at Lily.

"Did you see the way she looked at me? What did I do wrong?" Lily whispered urgently.

"Nothing!" assured Emiliana. "For what we know, she's a total bitch."

The Hat shoute"SLYTHERIN!"

"Black, Sirius."

"Hum... a lot of loyalty towards the ones you care about but nothing for those you hate, and no discipline and no patience at all. Not at all like the other Blacks, are you? Plenty of courage, I see... GRYFFINDOR!"

The Gryffindor table burst into loud applause for the first Gryffindor.

"I wonder if Sirius related to the other girl," said Emiliana quietly.

"We should ask him, then," replied simply Lily.

"Dawlish, Ken."

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Evans, Lily."

"A lot of determination, a true soul you are. You'd do well in Hufflepuff but... I know better! GRYFFINDOR!"

"Fence, Penny."

"RAVENCLAW!"

"Gudgeon, Davey."

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, Emiliana."

Emiliana felt the gaze of the students on her back as she walked towards the stool. "With a name like that, it's no wonder."

"Ah!" the Hat whispered. "The Heiress. I wondered when you would come. You want to be in Gryffindor, I see. So is my wish but you're at the limit of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. And Hufflepuff is more versatile, I'm afraid. HUFFLEPUFF!"

"NO!" screamed Emiliana in her head. "I'm not with Lily... and that hot guy..." Still, Emiliana Hufflepuff sat at her table her head up. She'd talk to Lily later.

"Hamilton, Sherry."

"SLYTHERIN!"

"Jugson, Melvina."

"SLYTHERIN!"

"LeHoux, Noella"

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Lestrange, Rodolphus."

"SLYTHERIN!"

"Lupin, Remus."

"A hard one you are! Knowledge is important for you, that's Ravenclaw material. But you won't do as well as in ...GRYFFINDOR!"

"MacMillan, Sandra"

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Malkin, Kateleen."

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

The girl sat next to Emiliana. "Hi!" said Kateleen. "I saw you at my mom's shop when you bought your school robes. And the dress robe you bought, that's my favorite!"

Emiliana smiled and said, "If you want, you can try it on, it's in my trunk." Kateleen beaed at her.

Then went: "McKinnon, Christian"(Ravenclaw), "Parslow, Roger" (Hufflepuff), "Patil, Adam" (Ravenclaw) and "Pettigrew, Peter", who spent two long minutes on the stool before he was sorted into Gryffindor.

"Potter, James."

"Yes, sure there's ambition. A great dislike for rules as well. Slytherin would be a good place for you. But, wait!!! There's more...you are brave and... Noble... GRYFFINDOR!"

"Quinn, Nelly."

"SLYTHERIN!"

"Rindt, Dana."

"GRYFFINDOR!"

"Snape, Severus" The greasy-haired kid was sorted into Slytherin.

The Sorting ended with the four people left: "Tarker, Ellie" (Ravenclaw), "Vaughn, Marlene" (Gryffindor), "Williamson, Mark" (Ravenclaw) and "Zeller, Allan" (Hufflepuff).

"Attention, please!" called out Professor McGonagall's voice.

The Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore stood up. "A new term is beginning. For our new students, and some of the older ones, I will remind you all that the Forest is out of bounds for everyone. Dungbombs, fireworks or any kind of tricks that cause trouble are also forbidden, on the demand of our new caretaker, Argus Filch. Finally, older students will have noticed that there's a new tree on the grounds. The Whoming Willow is extremely dangerous to anyone who approches it because, as its name says so, its branches can give pretty hard punches. Now... you may eat!"

The plates on the four tables were magically filled with delicous food. Lily was talking to a Gryffindor girl next to her, while Emiliana was chatting with Kateleen, Freddy, Davey and the prefect, Thalia. Then, she stood up and went to see Lily at the Gryffindor table.

"Well, I guess we didn't make it..." said Emiliana.

"Don't worry! Have a seat!" Lily replied with a smile.

James and Sirius were discussing on a prank they would play on McGonagall and on the Snape kid, who was talking to Graham Avery, the fifth-year Evan Rosier, and the third-year Lucius Malfoy. They really looked like a bunch of bastards, on Sirius' opinion. Remus remained quiet next to them while Peter was eating furiously, listening to two of the best pranksters that Hogwarts has ever seen. After, the girls had to separate, as it was time for the students to go to their common room.
