Chapter Five: Hormones Humming, Teens Talking, and Emotions...um, Emoting.

Harry was stunned.

“Ginny? Isn’t it a good thing that I happened upon you now? I mean, that means I can save you.”

Ginny laughed, a gentle laugh, and Harry felt a blush creep up his neck.

“Ah, Harry. Noble, kind Harry. Of course you’d want to save me, that’s part of what I love-“ She stopped abruptly.

Once upon a time, Harry would’ve felt awkward at her sentence, “That’s what I love about you,” but not now. Not when he was finally feeling that warm, sleepy feeling that love gave you. In all the tumult of these few years, he desperately needed that feeling.

“Ginny,” he whispered, pressing his hand on the glass. “I meant..I meant to tell you before. But you ran away.”

Ginny looked up from her feet, her eyes scared. He saw a glimpse of that shy girl she once was, and Harry smiled at her embarrasement.

“Harry,” she whispered, her hair floating in the wind of wherever she was, “You…you don’t have to explain. It wasn’t fair of me to..it wasn’t fair of me to push myself onto you like that. I’m happy with being friends, honestly I am. Besides, I want to deal with this mirror issue, and I think you’ll want to be listening too, before you say anyth-”

“Ginny, shut up.” Harry cut her off, his voice harsher than he intended.

“I’m so-sorry.” Ginny’s voice was hoarse, and she looked away, her face tight. Harry felt guilty as he realized that she had been crying.

“You want to ignore this issue? Well, too bad. I don’t. You need to know how I feel about you.” His words were a bit mean, but Harry was tired of things he loved being snatched away from him. He need to let Ginny know how he felt, mirror be damned.

Ginny gulped, and he saw her face start to turn red. Her eyes, large and almond shaped, with long, brown tinged lashes, were flashing, and her freckles stood out in stark contrast against her paper-white skin.

“How dare you?!!!!” she shrieked, seemingly using all the air in the eastern hemisphere.

Harry was scared, to say the least.

“How dare you come in here, intent on ‘helping’ me-“ here, her voice dripped in sarcasm, “-when all you want to do is tell me how you feel while I’m too indisposed to follow. You don’t want ickle Ginny following you and crying, do you? The great Harry Potter doesn’t want to feel the least bit obligated, does he? He just wants to drop in, say his bit, then leave. I knew it, I just knew that you were just an image, not the boy I thought I love-“

Harry cut her off this time. “How dare YOU?!” he thundered, watching Ginny recoil. Vaguely, he pondered how stupid he must seem talking (er, yelling) at a mirror. But he blundered on.

“Do you have any idea the kind of thinking I had to do when you just sprung it on me that you loved me? Did you stop to think that maybe I didn’t want to be bothered with anyone, and it wasn’t you? No, of course not, because you’re Ginny, and poor you, Harry Potter DOESN’T LOVE YOU!!!”

They both stopped at that, both heaving, both with tears in their eyes. Harry because of the hurtful things Ginny had said (he thought she was the only girl to ever look past his fame), and Ginny because her worst fears had been confirmed (she had thought, when he had come in here, that maybe…but no.)

It was a long moment before anything happened.

Then, “Oh, Gin, I didn’t…I didn’t mean that all. I’m really sorry, please just ignore what I said, please. Ginny, please look at me, I came to save you, I really did, I was worried, because I do like you a lot,” (somehow, Harry couldn’t bring himself to say love) “I just got angry because of the things you said, WHY did you say them by the way, oh, but I am so sorry, Gin, I really like you.”

This said in all one breath, and this time, Harry really was blushing.

Ginny looked up finally, and her eyes said it all. “Don’t.” she whispered, here voice slipping back into that shy fifteen yr old voice.

Harry stopped blathering on. “Don’t what?” he asked timidly.

“Don’t say that you like me.”

Harry shook his head, exaspareted. “Why won’t you see, Gin? I mean it!!”

Ginny just looked away, a tear sliding down her cheek. “No,” she said darkly, “I wish it were so, but it isn’t…Harry, you know nothing of love yet. Please don’t…please.”

He didn’t know what she needed, but he wanted desperately to help. “Ginny,” he said softly, “I wasn’t there before, I was blind. Only half living, really. Now that I can finally see, don’t shut my eyes. I like you, I really do. Don’t deny me you.”

Ginny bit her lip, really sobbing now. “Harry,” she said as her shoulders shook, “I’m sorry.”

Harry longed to touch her. “For what?” he asked gently.

Ginny looked up from her hands. “For everything that I’ve done.”

Harry was confused. “The sun’s rising, Gin. I’ll have to go soon, I don’t want to leave you, but as only I can see you…I’ll get help, I promise.”

Ginny shook her head urgently. “No, you don’t understand! Harry, no one must know of me here. Please, just go to classea and come back. I’ll…I’ll tell you everything.”

Harry backed away, looking deep into Ginny’s reflected brown eyes.

“Ok,” he muttered. “See ya.”

He shoved his hands in his pockets, his mind suddenly blank.

What the HELL had THAT been?!
