Accepting All Letters

Paul and Daisy Evans. They seemed the typical young newlywed couple. And they were - except for one little detail. They both had exposure to a world quite different from the one they were residing in. Paul and Daisy were what people in that other world called squibs. People from a magical family that just can't do magic.

They had married in late June 1959. In May of 1960, Paul and Daisy gave birth to their first child. She was a beautiful baby girl with gorgeous green eyes and a hint of red locks. They decided to call her Lily. Flower names were a tradition with all the females born in Daisy's family.

The couple couldn't be happier. They had their perfect family they were wishing for. That was until April 1961, when the couple's second daughter was born. She looked quite different from her sister - she was a blonde with blue eyes. But she was beautiful to the Evans family all the same. They gave their second girl the name Petunia.

Daisy had always longed for a sister herself and was extremely happy that the girls would have each other to grow up with and have one of those sisterly bonds. Their very minimal age difference helped bring the girls closer. Daisy had 2 brothers herself. There wasn't that big of an age different between them, but it was nothing like her daughters. Part of the time, her brothers didn't want to be followed around by a "little girl."

Daisy also figured that her girls would have a closer relationship spending all their years together. Daisy had summers with her brothers, oh yes, but for almost as long as she could remember, she never had a school year with her brothers. This was because her brothers, Stephen and Dennis, were wizards. They had both gotten their letters from Hogwarts School of Wizardry on their eleventh birthdays. From those days on, Stephen and Dennis would spend each school year somewhere in Scotland, learning spells and concocting potions from some of the most learned wizards in Europe.

Daisy never got her letter. It had to be her luck that she turned out to be a squib in the family. It was hard for her to grow up in an all wizarding family and not being able to do the craft herself. She spent her school years at the local private school, living her double life. She didn't have any doubt that her daughters would be squibs too. Born to two squibs. It seemed impossible that they'd be anything other!

As Daisy predicted, as the girls grew, they were inseparable. The girls could have had their own bedrooms, but insisted on sharing a room together. Daisy had a hard time getting them to separate. They simply did not want to play with anyone besides the other.

Lily was the first to start school. Both girls were devastated. Lily did not want to go without Petunia. Petunia wanted to go along with Lily. The first few weeks were very hard for them, but eventually the girls adjusted. Lily came home everyday rushing home to tell Petunia everything about her day. Petunia couldn't wait until she could go to school too. She knew that she wouldn't be in the same classes, but she wanted to have fun stories to tell back to Lily in return.

It seemed nothing could tear the girls apart. Nothing.
