- Author's Note:
- First and foremost, I dedicate the prologue to any of you who might take interest in this story. Second, I must dedicate this entire story to Kiana, who encouraged me to keep writing when I was ready to throw this plot bunny to Elmer Fudd. Third, to my absolutely wonderful beta, who words cannot describe! Thank you all!
Only Time - Prologue
Who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows
-Only time
And who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose
-Only time
Who can say if your heart sighs
As your love flies
-Only time
And who can say why your heart cries
When your love lies

If the night keeps all your heart,

As your heart chose

And who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows
-Only time
Who knows - Only time
Who knows - Only time
~Enya, Only Time, A Day Without Rain
A loud crash in the kitchen brought me out of my reverie; I hurried to the scene of the crime where I found my eighteen-month-old son digging through my Tupperware cabinet. The little munchkin had gotten past the Child Lock Charm I had placed on the door.
"Mama! Play!" he said excitedly as he slammed the Tupperware container onto the tile repeatedly. "Playing the drums" happened to be his favourite activity, and not much else could keep him occupied. That, and who could resist that adorably cheeky face that hadn't lost its baby fat yet.
I had to smile at that toothless grin that adorns all infants. I wrestled the container out of his grip and picked him up. I looked at him, and past memories came flooding back, as they usually did. He had an uncanny resemblance to his father, a man who had wormed his way into my heart, broken it, and kept the pieces once I left him.
Benny's first word had been spoken about four months ago. Unfortunately for me, it was "Dada."
Benny's father had been the main reason I left England for Canada. Of course, there had also been several smaller reasons contributing to this change in location. That was all in the past now, and there was no way of going back, altering time, and fixing my mistakes.
And there was no way I would be able to go back to England. Very few people knew I was a parent, least of all, my parents and Benny's father. The only two people who did know were my brother Ron and his wife, Hermione, who had just recently gained a son of their own. I did keep in contact with the rest of my family as well, but I couldn't bring myself to tell them what I knew they wouldn't understand.
There wasn't a single bone in either of my parents' bodies that would be able to comprehend that their perfect daughter, Ginny Weasley, gave birth to an illegitimate child at the age of nineteen. What was worse, was that it was beyond all reason that their perfect daughter had an illegitimate child with the son of the most notorious Death Eater: the one and only, Draco Malfoy.
