Author's Note:
This is kind of crappy, i must admit, but that was probably because i composed it at 2 am. Buffy is from the show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Hermione found herself smiling and skipping down a beautiful path in a forest, surrounded by tall trees and plants. It was a clear, crisp summer day. She started to hum a melodic tune. In front of her was a golden meadow with a little lake next to it.

"Oh, how pretty," she said out loud.

She walked to a grassy area beside the lake and lay down.

She thought, I think I'll just take a little nap. She slowly dozed off, in the warmth of the sun, and started dreaming.

Familiar faces, of her parents, friends, professors, and enemies surrounded her, even of Professor Snape. They all stared at her, and nobody understood what she was saying. She was trying to tell all of them to let her out of the room, that nobody knows her, but nobody could understand her. The surroundings faded out and became dark, and gloomy.

Crack. Hermione woke up with a start. It was completely dark; there was no sun left.

What was that noise?

She slowly rose, and started to walk towards her home. She walked slowly at first, cautiously, but then....CRACK. Something else snapped. She broke into a run.

"RWAAAGRRRARR!" something growled. Hermione screamed. A hideous monster jumped out and growled. It had bumps on its forehead, and pointy teeth. It actually looked almost human, but to Hermione, it was an extremely ugly creature, kind of like the troll that she, Ron, and Harry took on in their first year.

Her mind was telling her body to run, but a part of her told her to stay. For some reason Hermione wasn't afraid.

The creature lunged at her, teeth bared, but Hermione just neatly stepped to the side and aimed a kick at its head. Then she took hold of its shoulders and brought her knee to its face, smashing its nose to the back of its head. She then grabbed its arm and flipped it hard on its back, and there was a satisfying crunch. The creature rolled over and aimed a punch at Hermione. She dodged it and sat on the creature. Then she threw punch after punch after punch at its face. The creature pushed her off, and she landed in a cat-like stance. She broke off a tree branch, shaped like a knife, almost, and lunged at it. She drove the branch straight through its heart. It let out a cry of anguish and vanished into dust.

Hermione stood up and dusted off her clothes. She stopped to think about what had just happened. Her mind had gone on automatic, and it seemed natural. She hadn't even thought about using a spell.

"That was fun," she said to herself.

"Nice job," a voice said out of nowhere. Suddenly a girl with blond hair, dressed in all black stepped out of the shadows.

"Thank you," Hermione said cautiously. "Pardon me, but who are you?"

"I'm Buffy Summers," she said.

"I'm Hermione Granger." She looked at Buffy with curiosity. "You wouldn't happen to know what that creature was, would you?"

"Actually, I do. That was a vampire."

"A what?"

"A vampire." Buffy walked over to a grassy patch and sat down. Hermione followed.

"You seem to know what you're talking about. Would you mind explaining?" Hermione asked, rather impatiently. "Please?" she added as an after thought.

"Well, first of all, I'm a vampire slayer, so I kill vampires and demons, for life. It's my job. I am the Chosen One."

"Okay...Do you have a life? You know, for example, friends, and school, and family."

"Well, yeah," Buffy said slowly. "But being a slayer takes up most of my time. My mother is dead, but I have good friends in Sunnydale, where I live."

"Oh. Ok.You are from America, correct?" Hermione asked.

"Yeah. How'd you know?"

"Your accent," Hermione replied, rather airily. "So, what brings you to England, might I ask?"

"Well," Buffy said hesitantly. "I'm here with Giles. He's my watcher. Giles was sent here to find a replacement...in case something happens."

"All right...can you tell me? What is it?" Hermione was getting curious, and there was a sinking feeling in her stomach, telling her what Buffy was about to.

Buffy stood up. "Hermione, I don't know how to tell you this, because I don't know how you'll react, but you're the next Slayer. I need to train a replacement in case something ever happens to me. That's why I'm here."

Hermione was quiet for a minute.

Then she said, "What?" The expression on her face was pure shock. "You mean I have to fight those vampires, and chase demons, or whatever?"

"Yup."

"Bloody hell! What about my parents, and friends? And what about school? My perfect grades...they would suffer, if I were to be a Slayer."

"Yeah, so?" Buffy asked. "What's your point? My grades did. I almost got expelled. And my friends are fine with me slaying demons."

"What?!" Hermione exploded. "That is it. There is absolutely no possible way I could be a vampire slayer. What if I don't want to be the Chosen One? I don't have, to, right? Oh bloody hell. Besides, there are no demons and vampires at Hogwarts...oops," she stopped. She realized that in her rambling, she had mentioned Hogwarts.

Buffy looked curious. "Where is Hogwarts? And what is it?" she asked.

"Oh, you might as well know! You deal with demons, for crying out loud. I'm a witch! Hogwarts is a school for witches and wizards."

"Is that all?"

Hermione looked confused. "Wait a minute. You know about witches? Most Muggles don't know witches exist. So how do you know?"

"Huh? Muggle? Whatever. Anyway, are you a Wicca? That's what Willow is. She's a witch too."

"Okay, Buffy. Just hear me out. I. Am. Not. Going. To. Be. A. Slayer," she said slowly.

Buffy just looked at her. Then she said casually, "You enjoyed fighting that vampire, and slaying it, didn't you?" Hermione looked away. "And look..." Buffy paused and took something out of her jacket pocket. "See this? It's a stake. This is similar to what you picked to kill the vampire."

"So?" Hermione looked glum. Buffy was right - she had enjoyed driving the stake through the vampire's heart.

Buffy took hold of Hermione by the shoulders and shook her. "Don't you get it? You're a natural Slayer! This is all instincts for you! You remind me of myself at sixteen. I didn't want to be a Slayer either." She released her grip.

Hermione heaved a sigh. "Buffy..." she stopped.

"What is it?" Buffy asked.

"Shh!" Hermione listened intently. Something cracked.

Suddenly there were vampires everywhere. They formed a ring around Buffy and Hermione, who positioned themselves back to back. Buffy passed her a stake.

The vampires started attacking. Hermione was on an adrenaline rush. She didn't know what she was doing - it was automatic. She kicked and punched vampires everywhere, and she stabbed all the ones that she could. One grabbed her around the throat and was getting ready to bite her, but Buffy came and stabbed him. Then she backhanded a vampire behind her without even looking, and flipped another one hard on his back and stabbed her. The fight went on and on. Hermione was actually having fun, even though it was dangerous, and could be a life and death situation.

There were about five or six vampires left, when suddenly, a couple of vampires snuck up on Hermione and held her. She was being held by two vampires, when she saw one picking up Buffy. He threw her hard against a rock, and there was a crunch as her back broke. She gasped. Her last words were, "Hermione...find Giles..." and then the vampire sunk his fangs into her exposed neck, drinking her blood, greedily.

Another vampire came to bite Hermione, who said, "Back off, you slimy git!" Then she flipped herself and kicked the vampire, and she smashed the heads of two vampires together. She grabbed her stake and began stabbing.

Soon, there was no one there, but herself. She was all alone and Buffy was dead. She had to go and find this Giles that Buffy had been talking about. And thus began the adventures of Hermione, the Vampire Slayer.
