Chapter Seven- Good-bye

"It is with great sadness," Dumbledore began his end of the term speech. "And even greater happiness that this school year comes to a close. What countless and wonderful things you all have achieved this year. I have no doubt that the world will greatly benefit from you all."

Polite applause came from the students and staff. Dumbledore merely nodded. "More has happened in the past seven years than in most people's lifetimes. Especially to a select few of our students."

Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Luna exchanged significant looks. Ginny grinned at Harry from across the table.

"This is not a time to dwell upon past events, but to the future. Now to you I say, eat!" Dumbledore finished, sitting back down.

"Truer words never spoken!" Ron dug into the food.

Hermione shook her head and helped herself to some bread. Harry stood up. "I'll see you guys later, I want to finish my packing."

"Ut nary if duh en f yar weest!" Ron protested with his mouth full. Ron swallowed. "I mean, 'but Harry it's the end of year feast'!"

"I know, I just want to pack," Harry said as he walked out of the hall.

Luna watched him thoughtfully, she stood up as well. "I have to find my missing quill."

Luna left. She found Harry under the notice board in an empty classroom. "Brings back old memories, doesn't it?" she asked.

Harry looked up. "Oh, yeah. This room. Two years ago."

Luna nodded and walked closer to him. "I was putting up my notice, and you were trying to hide."

"We talked about Sirius and your mother," Harry reminisced.

"Yes," Luna said, still walked toward where he was sitting. "You were the first person I told about my mum. Ginny didn't find out until later."

"Why me?" asked Harry as Luna sat down beside him.

"I could tell you were suffering too," Luna said, resting her head on his shoulder. "I could tell you needed someone to vent on. I needed to tell someone about my mum. Funny how things work out, isn't it?"

Harry was now running his fingers through Luna's hair involuntarily. "Yeah. Luna, d'you know how much people want to be like you?"

"No. Why would they want to be me?"

"Because they're all wondering what it's like not to be afraid. And you, you're not afraid."

His face was dangerously close to hers. Luna closed her eyes for a moment, when she opened them Harry was less then an inch away. Luna pulled back and shook her head.

"You have a girlfriend, Harry," she said.

Harry looked up at her and sighed. "You're right. I do."

They stood there awkwardly for a few minutes. The door flung open. It was Ron. "There you are, Harry! Someone snuck in fire whiskey!"

Ron studied the situation more. "What were you two doing in here?"

"Harry was helping me look my lost things," Luna covered up.

"Oh, right," Ron said. Hermione appeared beside him.

"Are you two going to come up?" she asked.

"There's fire whiskey!" Ron reminded them as he ran off.

"You better not drink it, Ron!" Hermione called after him.

"You can go with your friends, you are graduates now," Luna said nonchalantly.

Harry hesitated, but left. Luna was alone standing in the same spot as she had done two years ago. She knew this was an awkward situation for Harry, as well as herself. Now Harry would probably get good and drunk with his friends to forget it.

"Luna!" Ginny rushed into the room. "Someone's got fire whiskey! Come up to the common room with me!"

Ginny grabbed her hand and brought her up to the Gryffindor common room. There were gold and crimson banners everywhere, and everyone was in their house colors.

"I rather stick out, don't I?" Luna said serenely.

"Yeah, well," Ginny said, looking her over. "It will have to do. Now, c'mon!"

The hours ticked away and soon it was two in the morning. Mostly everyone had gone up to their dorms except Ron who was doing a drunken dance by the fireplace, with Hermione in an armchair beside him, asleep.

Ginny was lying on the floor in a corner, an empty bottle of butterbeer clutched in her hand. Luna covered Ginny up in a blanket. Ginny hiccupped in response.

Luna was leaving when a hand flew out in front of her. It was Harry. And Luna had been right in thinking he would get drunk. He was very drunk.

"Hey Luna," he slurred.

"Good night," Luna said, pushing past him.

"Wait, where are you goin'?"

"Back to my own common room," Luna answered. "I don't want to play this game, Harry."

"What you talkin' 'bout?"

"This, Harry," Luna cried impatiently. "I am not going to reason with a drunk person! I have tried, thank you!"

Harry blinked at her. "I jusht want to kissh you."

"No, no, Harry," Luna said as tears began to well up in her eyes. "You're ruining everything just because you're a stupid drunk!"

Luna ran out trying to hold back her tears. It was just like perfectly respectable boys to go and do something so inconsiderate and stupid! Her tears came once she had gotten to her dorm. She sobbed into her pillow. Harry had ruined everything. She couldn't bear to think of him. How could he have said that? He should have just left the kiss behind them!

Luna eventually cried herself to sleep. She couldn't cope with Harry and she didn't want to just yet. She could find someone else. Couldn't she?

You think your days are uneventful
And no one ever thinks about you
She goes her own way
She goes her own way
You think your days are ordinary
And no one ever thinks about you
But we're all the same
And she can hardly breathe without you

She says she has no time
For you now
She says she has no time

Think about the lonely people
Then think about the day she found you
Or lie to yourself
And see it all dissolve around you

She says she has no time
For you now
She says she has no time
For you now
She says she has no time

Chapter Eight- Where Have You Gone

Luna stepped into Hogwarts for the first time in eight years. She had graduated seven years ago and had gone into training to become a Charms teacher. She was now Professor Lovegood.

She began unpacking all of her materials into her desk when she heard a knock on the door. Luna looked up. "Oh, headmaster," she said hastily.

"Good day, Miss Lovegood," Dumbledore said, looking around at all of her boxes. "I trust everything is suitable?"

"Oh, yes, yes," Luna nodded vigorously.

"Very well then," Dumledore said, stepping back out of the room. "I will see you at the opening feast this evening."

Luna dove back into her boxes.

"One more thing, if I may," said Dumbledore.

"Oh, yes, go right ahead."

"Will you be attending the class reunion this October?"

"No."

"May I inquire as to why not?"

"There are just a few people I really don't want to see again, sir."

Dumbledore smiled knowingly. "Ah, yes. I understand, Miss Lovegood."

Luna sighed and looked at the mess around her. She had a lot to do before the feast. The next time Luna looked at the clock it was a quarter past eight. The feast had already begun.

She dashed through the halls to make it in time. She slowly opened the doors. Everyone in the hall was now looking at her.

"There she is now," Dumbledore said to the hall. "Your new Charms teacher, Professor Lovegood."

Luna nodded at the staring students as she made her way to the staff table. She awkwardly took her seat between two of the other staff members. It was odd to now be sitting at the staff table after looking up at it almost her entire life.

After the feast Luna finished unpacking. She was stacking the boxes away in a closet when a piece of paper at the bottom of one of the boxes caught her eye. She lifted up the paper. It was a picture. The moon's light illuminated the picture. It was a picture of her, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, and Harry.

Luna's heart skipped a beat. Harry. She had tried to suppress his memory for all these years. She had last seen him when he was drunk, and that was not one of Luna's fond memories. She wondered if he and Luna were still together. And if they were, if they were happy.

She stuffed the picture back at the bottom of the box. She didn't want to look at it again for a long time if ever again. Luna did not like revisiting her sixth year. Her grandparents had died that year after she had graduated; she had been very close to her grandparents. So it had been hard for her.

There was also the whole Harry incident. Luna didn't want to think about what if Ron had caught them kissing. He most likely would have beat Harry up, as Ron was very protective of Ginny.

Luna headed up to her room. It was over now, she tried to tell herself, she was done with her sixth year and never had to think on it again. But that lingering thought of Harry still was fresh in her mind. How badly she had wanted to kiss him.

No, she stopped herself. No, that's in the past. Gone, done. I'm over Harry.

She took a deep breath. "Yes. Okay. Going to sleep now. Yes, sleeping is a good thing."

Luna stared up at the ceiling. She couldn't sleep. Now all she could think about was Harry. Harry on the last day of school, Harry when she first met him.

She could hear rain beginning to fall over the castle. Luna closed her eyes and listened to it rain. She had to come to terms with herself. She had tried to forget it all these years, but she knew she wouldn't be happy until she admitted it. Luna was still in love with Harry.

Luna sat up in bed. She had to find him. She had to find Harry and tell him. It might not be too late. She dressed and went to the owlery.

She picked a school owl and pulled some crumpled parchment out of her pocket. Just then an owl swooped down. Luna examined the owl. It had a letter in its mouth.

Luna took the letter. It said, Professor Luna Lovegood, Hogwarts, The Owlery. Luna opened it and began to read. She dropped the letter when she had finished. It couldn't be true.

Well it's a lonely road that you have chosen
Morning comes and you don't want to know me anymore
And it's a long time since your heart was frozen
Morning comes and you don't want to know me anymore
For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
I don't know you, and I don't want to
Till the moment your eyes open and you know

For a moment your eyes open and you know
All the things I ever wanted you to know
I don't know you, and I don't want to
Till the moment your eyes open and you know

Author notes: DUN DUN DUN!!! Next: What does Luna's interesting piece of mail say? All I'm telling is that is has to do with Harry! (Yeah, I know that wasn't much of a hint)
