- This is my first fic I've posted, my apologies if it was pathetic. I had this idea for ages, just never had achance to get any of it down.
The Second War of Voldemort only lasted fourteen months and three weeks, nothing compared to the wars waged in muggle history. Yet this war was the most gruesome, destructive, devastating and vital in either wizard and muggle recorded history.
It tested the will and determination of the Light armies against the merciless power of the purest evil in centuries. In this war lives good and bad were lost, families were torn apart in anger, betrayal and hatred and those few remarkable people would rise up and change the world forever.
From the beginning the Light suffered crucial losses. The wizarding schools of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Durmstrang Institute were reduced to rubble simultaneously by Voldemort himself, and though the schools´ students had not been caught in the attack, headmaster Albus Dumbledore had gone down in the most noble fashion, head held high, back straight, wand ready, defending his school.
War was declared on the following day, by Ministers Fudge and Clement of Britain and France respectively. It was an anticipated move, and before the live broadcast was heard through Floo networks and the Wizarding Wireless network, wizards and witches over the age of fifteen were being recruited and prepared for imminent battle.
Over Europe, eight armies formed. The most notable, the Phoenix army, was regarded throughout the war as the key in the Light side. Within this army were seven divisions, the most consequential being the newly leaderless Order of Phoenix, veterans of the First War of Voldemort, and Dumbledore´s Army, a division of twenty-nine of Hogwarts´ youths and lead by the infamous and courageous Harry Potter.
Indeed it was this Harry Potter, sixteen only days prior to war, and his Dumbldore´s Army that kept the hopes of the Light up, even in the most gravest of situations they fought with admirable displays of courage, determination, intellect, loyalty and teamwork. They suffered the fewest casualties during the war, the disappearance of Hannah Abbot and the self-sacrificing death of Zacharias Smith and achieved the greatest successes. Of all the Light divisions in the war, the DA were the most successful, respected and feared, history would eventually make each of them heroes and their cause and bravery legend.
Though none dare speak of it, should it become jinxed, it was a widely believed and accepted fact that the DA´s leader and infant saviour from the previous war, Harry Potter, was the only one who could put an end to the Dark Lord and in doing so fulfil his destiny. But as the thirteenth month of the war drew to a close, Harry Potter´s long awaited show down with Voldemort seemed a long way off. Dumbledore´s Army together with a division of their Italian allies, was battling against dark Italian wizards and an army of one hundred Dementors in Egypt, while Voldemort was assisting Russian dark artists in terrorising the villagers in Belgium ... or so everyone thought.
It was during this time that both Harry Potter and Voldemort disappeared. Harry was last seen by Dean Thomas, a fellow Gryffindor and member of the DA, firing a Patronus at three dozen Dementors at the foot of a great pyramid, while Voldemort was said to have been giving orders at the summit of a small hill, before a flash of bright green light blinded the people surrounding both of them and whisked the two away to parts unknown.
The DA continued their battle in Egypt, determined to continue their leader´s work. They succeeded with the vanquishing all of the Dementors and the capture of two dozen enemy wizards. A fortnight after Harry´s disappearance, they were removed from the Egyptian front and returned, fatigued, ill and gravely anxious for any news on their leader to British shores. After two days of reluctant recuperation and inaction, the division of teenaged heroes joined the worldwide search for Harry and Voldemort.
However, it was not the DA or the Order of Phoenix who eventually found the two. A division in the mixed European Light army, consisting of professional Quidditch players, were flying two feet below the grey overcast in northern Scotland when they passed over the rubble that had once stood as Hogwarts. It was here that they had decided to stop, hungry and desperate for rest. Commander Oliver Wood shouted orders over his shoulder to his troops to be quick and keep an eye out, as he walked towards the ruins that held so many of his childhood memories.
It was as the team were preparing to fly off again that Oliver spotted something that made his heart pound faster. As if drawn by a magnet, the rest of the squad followed Oliver´s eyes and rested theirs on a body. The first to react was a surly, dark haired man. He raced over to the limp body, that the others had by now registered by the messy black hair and pale skin that belonged to Harry Potter.
To the joy of the Light division, Harry Potter was not dead, just covered in days old blood and unconscious. His left arm seemed broken as were his trademark glasses and when Oliver ran his eyes over the adolescence forehead, the sight almost made him sick. The lightening bolt scar on Harry´s forehead was open to a size five times its usual, and was filled in what seemed like a dark purple goo. Before Oliver could examine it closer, harry was lifted by two men and portkeyed off, presumably to the nearest headquarters.
Within seconds of Harry´s removal from the site several dozen wizards and witches apparrated at Hogwarts, including every surviving member of the DA and Order. Those closest to Harry departed to headquarters immediately leaving the remaining members to discover the missing clues, a broken wand, a fallen tree and the lifeless, non human like form of Voldemort.
The following weeks marked the end of the war, as news of the fall of Voldemort spread turning the war upside down. Four weeks after the team had landed at Hogwarts, Voldemort´s army was defeated and the war was declared over. The world celebrated and hailed the many new heroes and mourned the deceased.
The Second War of Voldemort only lasted fourteen months and three weeks, it ended Voldemort´s reign of power, it united the countries of the World and from it many heroes were made. But the war also brought destruction unmatched by anything in recorded history, millions dead, missing or insane, one in five Europeans were subjected to torture or dark magic during the war and countries´ governing bodies were shattered.
Britain and France suffered the most severe consequences. Their Ministries were disbanded and their society lay in chaos. A group of English and French thinkers decided that a temporary leader was needed to put both countries back on their feet, their prime candidate was Harry Potter, seventeen and recovering from the most mysterious battles ever staged, yet respected by all and most importantly a born leader.
On the 1st of January the following year Harry Potter was named Ruler of both the British Isles and France. The British and French people were thrilled, Harry Potter was a ruler they could trust and with the help of his personally selected committee they had every confidence in the boy´s ability to raise them from the ashes.
And so began the start of a new era. What those bright English and French thinkers failed to know was that this era would be no better than the last, that their new ruler would become corrupted by an unknown and unnoticed force and that under his rule their world would undergo more years of dark disorder and war.
